We were in Shipshewana on a day trip to see the huge quilt show. Lunch time arrived. We looked at…read morethe map of downtown attractions and saw "shaved ice." The idea of a cool, tasty treat sounded absolutely wonderful. When we spied the small, cute building, we started to wonder if shaved ice was all they had. We parked in the little one-way alley nearby. But the sign on the front promised substantial fortifications such as pulled pork, hot dogs and brats. We're going to be just fine! The front door and steps might be a bit tricky for a person with difficulty walking. The ladies were very friendly and welcoming. They went the extra mile to be sure that we were having a wonderful time having lunch at their place. They offered to carry our food outside for us when they saw that my friend was having a little trouble walking. There are small tables indoors with the air conditioning, or you can sit outside on the patio, shaded by parasols. There was a gliding table - seats four, and brochures in case you want one for your own home. We both had the pulled pork on a pretzel bun. Tender and flavorful by itself, but you can add condiments. Tomato salsa, pineapple salsa, BBQ sauce, etc. Get plenty of napkins for all the juice. The pineapple slaw was really delicious. It was a little spicy from cayenne pepper, and any crunch lost by the pineapple, cabbage and red onions to brining was more than made up for by the crunchy macadamia nuts. What a great combination of flavors and textures! You can get a bag of chips and fountain sodas to go with your meal. You get two sides of your choice. Be sure to get the pineapple slaw as one of them! Then, the reason we came: the shaved ice. I had never had it before. It's even better than a snow cone, because the ice melts just as your tongue touches it. The ladies made sure to give us plenty of syrup. My friend got lychee. My red raspberry ice made my lips and tongue turn bright red. Oh, and you get a special little surprise in the bottom - a gumball. Fun for kids of all ages!

It's a real fire truck, with all of the hoses and firefighting gadgets right there on the truck. This ice cream fire truck offers dipped ice cream cones, floats, sundaes and Tropical Sno shaved ice. They have lots of shaved ice syrup flavors -- so many that it was hard to choose. In the end, we got a blue raspberry shaved ice and a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough in a cone. Both of my children were satisfied with their choices! The prices were OK: $4 for a single scoop in a cake cone and $5 for a single scoop in a cup or waffle cone. A small shaved ice is $4. Because this is a food truck, they kind of bop around the city and show up in different places. It's probably best to follow them on social media to find out where they'll be next.

We stopped in at lunch on a Monday and it was one of the best Korean BBQ restaurants we've ever been to and we lived in Micronesia for 4 years. Recommend stopping in for lunch... $20 for AYCE is a steal - You will leave full and happy, I can guarantee it. After the ownership change, Uniq (now with lowercase letters!) is actually... okay now, I guess?…read moreStill nothing impressive, but it's a solid C+ and the new owners (heard they are the same guys behind Haru) actually seem to know what they're doing. My favorite things in the new Uniq are easily the chinmi (fishcake) tempura and the mixed drink (I got Green Apple, which came in a nice blue liquid like the chemical cocktail it is) which is... honestly kinda sad, but they got actual KBBQ now and are a lot more professional about the whole thing. Seriously though, for an AYCE appetizer, the chinmi tempura was quite excellent, though the shrimp tempura on the other hand was sad and soggy and raw and all-around depressing. Dae Gee still has much better appetizer options, that's for sure (nothing can beat a good Midwestern cheese corn yummmm). I still don't get what's supposed to be so uniq about this place though? Perhaps it's the tiny amount of broth and banchan they give you? Both have unlimited refills if you just ask, but something about it still strikes me as being particularly stingy. None of the meats are particularly special either even though they have more choices now. Most of the cuts are fatty (the galbi in particular is what we'd call a "trash cut" due to how fatty it is) and the different flavor profiles that they have like bulgogi, spicy honey or umakara ("sweet-and-spicy") just kind of blend together. The beef tongue also struck me as being way tougher than it had any business being, perhaps it was cut a little too thick. Much of the seafood is still obviously from Rang Dong. Though they got rid of the syrupy "bingsu" and just offer buffet ice cream now, which is actually a nice change of pace. It's about Paradise Buffet level in terms of cream quality, which I guess isn't so bad. Perhaps the one GOOD and uniq thing I can talk about is that they were playing RELATIVELY obscure K-Pop songs like Nekkoya when we visited, rather than the ultra-popular stuff that you hear everywhere in Chinatowns, with some Persona 5 OST and Ado thrown in. I respect. Should've turned the volume up further, though. If you're gonna weeb out, do it correctly. TL;DR I still like Dae Gee better tbh, but they have some competition now.
