I arrived at 9:32am on a Sunday morning in a party of two. We were seated promptly. The table looks like it was meant to be sideways to fit 4 people which created an unusual distance between us. Our waiter came over at 9:35pm. He didn't introduce himself and stated that he will get us waters and asked if we wanted something else. We received the waters quickly. He returned a couple minutes later to inquire if we had questions about the menu, which we did. I also asked about Debbie Lou's Sandwich shop. He said it used to be separate until COVID. Then, they combined and were doing two separate menus. Now, they combined the menus and switch it up every couple months. At 9:50am, we ordered. I got the strawberry butter French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. The other party got the cinnamon sugar waffles with bacon and side of cheese grits. At 10:02am, we received the food. Food Quality: 3/5 -At 9:52am, waiter brought over complimentary biscuits. The butter on top was visible and it was paired with a strawberry jam. The biscuits were soft, fluffy, and down right delicious! -Cheesy Grits: You must stir it because the cheese is at the bottom melting. My date stated "it's good grits" -Bacon: The first piece of bacon I tasted was not warm at all and was chewy. Of my 3-4 pieces of bacon, only a small piece was warm and crispy like I expected. This was disappointing. My date's bacon was the perfect temperature and crispiness. The disparity questions consistency. -Eggs: Perfect temperature but lacked seasoning or flavor. I added salt and pepper and it was fine. -French Toast: Very thick. The cream cheese was too much, in my opinion. This was evident when I cut into it and it basically drowned my French toast with the syrup. I was expecting fresh strawberries but it wasn't. It tasted like strawberry crumbs as it was somewhat hard and crunchy. The edges of the French toast were a little over cooked and burnt in some places. The interior of the fresh toast was soft and delicious. -Waffles: My date said the "Cinnamon sugar was perfect." I tasted it and they indeed were flavorful and delicious! Presentation: 5/5 -Well-presented, neat, and appetizing -Whipped cream butter on my French toast was in an excessive amount -There was a green garnish on the eggs, which was in excessive and overpowered the eggs. If there were only a couple Service: 4/5 -Per receipt, our waiter was "Isaiah M." He was friendly and attentive. Outside of not introducing himself (which is a personal pet peeve), the service was great. He attempted to help me decide which entree to get as I was deciding between the strawberry butter French toast and cinnamon roll pancakes. He noted they both were great options and are a consistent menu item even as they rotate out the menu. Ambiance & Cleanliness: 5/5 -The music was great! It was mostly R&B, which is our favorite genre! -On the table, they have sugar, salt, pepper, creamer, and a container of straws. -The place was clean and tidy. Staff went around to clear plates and tables. Value for Money: 4/5 -For the two entrees and side of grits, the total was $41, which isn't bad. -The side of eggs was tiny. It honestly shocked us. My date is allergic to eggs, so I ate his (which they did put on a separate plate) Overall Experience: 4/5 -My date said it was the "Best breakfast place I had in a while." For him, his food and everything was perfect. He disliked they he was unable to substitute the eggs, which he is allergic to. This caused him to give me his eggs and pay for a different side. Weird vibe upon entry! Just moved back home to NC and was greeted rudely just like Im still in the DMV. I told the waitress/greeter just one adult and I had my toddler great niece with me. I had some time to kill before checking into my hotel and since I got to town so early, I decided to come here for breakfast. They are a typical brunch place. You can order anything off the menu during their hours. They have separate weekday and weekend menus. They are pretty different. Idk when I'll be back in the area, but I for sure want to try it on the weekend. Everything just sounds delightful. Okay, getting back on track...it's the cutest little diner! People steadily came in and the turn around for tables was never too backed up, at least while I was there. This was also around 10:30am on a Friday morning. My waitress was very nice and friendly. To start, I ordered a water and a vanilla bean iced coffee. The coffee was wonderful! The perfect amount of coffee flavor and sweetness. After ordering, I was asked if I wanted a biscuit while I waited for the food to come out. Again, wonderful. It was warm with butter on top and came with a peach jam that I loved. For my food, I ordered the blueberry chipotle chicken biscuit. The pictures don't do anything justice. You get large portions, I certainly was not expecting that. The biscuit was so good! I wasn't sure how all of the flavors were gonna come together but they worked, and worked well. Bottom line, you NEED to visit this place and I most certainly will be back. read more

This restaurant has a lot of potential but maybe execution could be a tiny bit better! When I walked in I was so excited. I love the thing they have that dispenses straws. It was really cute. I also like the wallpaper. The service was fine. It was super quick! The food was really fun. I love the ideas on the menu. I came here for brunch with a few friends while in the area and we had a delicious meal! We came on a Saturday morning but were able to snag a table without a wait. I ordered the Brown Sugar Iced Coffee (cold brew with cinnamon, brown sugar, and heavy cream). I thought the cinnamon and brown sugar might all sink to the bottom and not incorporate well, but to my pleasant surprise it was excellent! To eat, I got the Ultimate Biscuits and Gravy with Mushroom Gravy (freshly baked biscuits topped with housemade gravy, cheese, tomatoes, and roasted red peppers served with two eggs). It came out basically looking like a biscuit island floating in a sea of gravy. And that sea was delicious. The portion size was HUGE so I had plenty of leftovers. I'm sad because we wanted to love this. Looking at the menu and the reviews, we were super excited to go! Overall, the experience was a little disappointing. First, they were super busy, but the server didn't come to our table for a little bit. I used to serve, so have a lot of patience and understand, but there were a couple things I thought were odd/I wasn't happy about. The food all came out at different times, which on one hand I appreciate so my food isn't cold, but was just kind of weird. I also really appreciated the complimentary biscuits, but we didn't get them until after our entrees. The waitress brought our food and said a new batch was in the oven and we'd have to wait. This was the first place that me and my partner went to eat when we first got to NC. Was down the street from our hotel and decided it to give it a shot. Now it is one of our top restaurants and breakfast spots that we go to. The staff is awesome and really showed us the ropes on what to get. They know us by heart now for the amount of times we grab brunch here. Everything we have gotten there has been nothing but jaw dropping and we bring everyone that comes into town here to enjoy a true southern breakfast. I want to give them 3 but the food was too good. And that's the main reason we go to a restaurant. The problem was the waitstaff. Exception was the hostess. She was very polite. Then the waitress came and took our drink orders. Snappy to my 12 yo daughter twice. My daughter asked for a drink that the waitress didn't list and that was enough to be snapped at. Then we didn't see her the rest of the breakfast. 10-15 minutes later a guy decides to take our order. My daughter wanted French toast. But she doesn't like anything but powdered sugar and chocolate syrup. Waiter said that couldn't be done. She'd have to get the French toast with the strawberry butter and take it off herself. The food is very fancy. Getting eggs, bacon and toast is not an option. So I wouldn't bring the kids. All the food we got was amazing, and expensive. Most dishes were $18. I had the Blueberry Chipotle Chicken biscuit enough to feed two hungry people. The biscuit was very thick in volume topped with a creamy icing and drizzle with a Blueberry Chipotle sauce. My chicken breast was triple dipped in the sauce and was tasty. I really enjoyed the skillet cheesy potatoes season well with a hint of sweetness. Not bad for my first time. I wanted to like this place. Since the True Flavors location next door is so disappointing, I was hoping that this would be a quick spot close to my house to grab an amazing biscuit sandwich. I was sadly out of luck. My husband and I came in on a Sunday for lunch. There wasn't a huge line, but it still took a surprisingly long time to get through the line and then get our food. There are 3 tiny tables inside, and a bench outside, so we just took our food to go since we live 5 minutes away. While we waited, we had a perfect view into the filthy kitchen. It was a little off-putting to watch the guy in the kitchen toss things in the convection oven (nothing made fresh) while food and other things fell to the floor around him. At least he was wearing gloves, unlike the cashier who was ringing people up, busing tables, and boxing the to-go orders (and dropping things on the ground in full view) without a hairnet, gloves or an apron. The cashier also had a very unfriendly attitude. During our 20-minute or so visit we heard her snap "well we just opened Black Friday so we're still trying to figure out how people want the menu," (mind you, it's January, so it's been almost two months since Black Friday). We also heard her snap at customers for attempting to bus their own tables (there are no signs and very few tables, so they were clearly trying to lend her a hand). We also heard her snap that she only had plastic silverware because it's been a busy morning. Finally, we heard her snap at the line behind us that they were out of biscuits and everyone would have to wait 15-20 minutes while she made more. Our food was nothing special. My brisket on a biscuit didn't have anything else going on- no condiments, no cheese, no veggie garnish, nothing. My husband had to ask the impatient cashier many, many questions before tailoring his order to be something that sounded like what he wanted. The mac and cheese and grits were upside down in the to-go containers so they just looked sort of oily and gross. It's like they didn't even try. They were out of fruit, which is why I ended up trying the mac and cheese. The menu is unclear, hard to read, and missing essential information. Oh, how could I forget to mention that they also serve kangaroo, ostrich and rabbit. The "fried kangaroo" alone is enough to make me not want to go back- with all the pictures of wildlife being rescued in Australia I was so horrified to see that (and I'm not even a vegetarian). If the ambiance had been better, I would have dealt with the off-putting and confusing menu. It the service was better, I might have overlooked the ambiance. If the food was out of this world, I maybe could have looked past the other stuff. But the facts are what they are. What a bummer. read more

I've been twice and honestly not too bad! Both times I did get the grit bowls because I loveeee grits and I really appreciate that they have an affordable option for grits loaded w/ cheese, bacon and sausage! Usually grit bowls are the most expensive because they come with shrimp, but love that these can be loaded w/ other proteins. The person in the front was really nice I thought! They helped us with anything and greeted us with a great attitude. Food also didn't take too long to get out. I will say that it's definitely more of a take out place because there are only a few tables/chairs. I will say that there are a few things that I wish I would've seen. First, I would love to see a few biscuit sandwich options that are more traditional (bacon/sausage, egg and cheese) because I probably won't be the one to try one of their more interesting options. If there are, then I didn't see them, but from the menu I wasn't able to see that option. Also, I ordered an iced coffee and I wish it wasn't prepackaged because it was more milk than coffee! Lastly, my bf ordered grits for a second round and the second round they came out super watery. Wow....second time here and this was definitely delicious. Picked up and our order was ready and delivered out to our car. (We did not care for the sides the first time, so only ordered the sandwiches.) I finally got a hold of the lobster biscuit -- it gets sold out by the end of the day. It. Was. Unbelievable. It was jam-packed with lobster and the lime and green onions made it perfect. My husband got the chipotle lime chicken biscuit and it, too, was unbelievably delicious. TL;DR: delicious biscuit sandwiches the size of a toddler's head I love the food at True Flavors diner, so I was excited to hear that they opened a little side biscuit shop where Baby Scratch used to be (RIP). They serve massive biscuit sandwiches, variations on biscuits and gravy, and various grits and mac & cheese side options. I was super surprised to see some unusual meat options for the biscuit sandwiches. They were sold out of rabbit on the day I visited, and I did not work up the nerve to try the kangaroo, but I did enjoy my Cajun duck biscuit sandwich (warning: quite spicy!). My husband got the blueberry chipotle chicken, which is the same chicken and sauce from the chicken and waffles in the main diner. Everything was delicious, but also quite heavy and rather messy. These are knife and fork biscuit sandwiches; they would just fall apart if you tried to pick them up to eat, and also the biscuits come smothered in butter and sometimes cheese. OMG. I can't believe I'm just now discovering these crazy, delicious, monster-sized biscuit sandwiches! When I stumbled upon Debbie Lou's Biscuit Shop on Yelp, I immediately knew I had to visit. When I realized it's the same restaurant as True Flavors (one of my all-time favorites!), I could hardly wait for the sun to come up so I could go! Their dining room is still closed so all orders are takeout only. After ordering on their website, I got a text letting me know it would be ready in 20 minutes. My son and I ordered the Chipotle Blueberry Chicken Biscuit. My husband ordered the Chicken Gravy Biscuit - all three of us thought the Chipotle Blueberry biscuit was good, but we all LOVED the Chicken Gravy Biscuit. I kept stealing the gravy off of my husbands food! The fried chicken is giant and has great flavor, the buttermilk biscuit is the best I've ever had! With anything I order, I may always ask for a side of the chicken gravy! If you're not driving home to eat your biscuit, I recommend bringing your own silverware. It's a (deliciously) messy meal and is difficult to eat with the thin plastic utensils that are included. It would probably be a good idea to bring a few wet wipes too!! We could easily have split a biscuit sandwich between the two of us, but they're so good, I doubt we ever will! read more

Yelp listed this restaurant as Debbie Lou's and our GPS guided us to the parking lot. The signage on the building read "True Flavors Cafe and Catering" and not Debbie's Lou's. We call to verify that this was indeed the correct place and the woman who answered the phone hung up on us. When we went inside to get a table I was waiting for my boyfriend and holding the door open for him and was told to shut the door. We were then told there was a 30 minute wait although they immediately seated the gentleman that came in behind us. We left due to poor customer service/rude staff. After reading previous reviews, I feel safe it to assume that this was the owner. The food may be outstanding, but I'll never find out. There are plenty of establishments that would be happy to have our business. I've never written a negative review on Yelp but this restaurant seems more than deserving on one. read more

Y'all. WHAT?! These biscuits are insane--in both presentation and flavor. I placed an online order and drove the 30 min drive to the restaurant (which was perfect because it was a 30 min wait). I got to the restaurant and called the phone number where a lovely person brought the food to my car immediately. The food was packaged perfectly. There was a lot of plastic but I think the plastic works better for the biscuit because there was a lot of juice. If they tried to use compostable packaging, it probably would've leaked everywhere. I chose the Honey Lime Chipotle Chicken biscuit with a side of gravy skilled potatoes. Both items were absolutely delicious. I could hardly finish my meal-- the portions are huge! I initially discovered Debbie Lou's Biscuit Shop about a year ago. They had set up a small building next door to their second location on Lakewood Ave. in Durham. My experience was ok, I liked what they were trying to do, but only gave three stars because it was a long wait getting my order and I wasn't blown away by the space or the biscuit. Flash forward one year (give or take a few weeks) and a lot has changed. Covid has totally changed everything and Debbie Lou's has moved into the same space as the original True Flavors diner off of Highway 55 near RTP. The second True Flavors diner didn't make it off of Lakewood). They are only taking to-go orders now so I ordered online and was told it would be twenty minutes. When I arrived I called the number on the sign they have on designated parking spaces and my food was brought out to me right away. This time I ordered their blueberry chipotle fried chicken biscuit and added egg and cheese. Their biscuits are not small (see picture) and not cheap. On the website they actually list them as "biscuit sandwiches" and they will set you back about $12-13, plus tax and a service fee. They are a bit of a splurge but the biscuit itself was very good and could have easily fed two people. My second experience with Debbie Lou's Biscuit shop was better than the first, and they have their to-go order system together. I will plan to order from them again, and hopefully posy Covid will be able to get these biscuit sandwiches when dining in at True Flavors. read more

They have so many sandwich options, I'm tempted to try them all. Alright y'all. When you put this place into your GPS, just know it's the same place as True Flavors Diner. I thought this was a new spot that was affiliated with the diner that's been around for a few years now, but same spot! Just a separate menu. This brunch spot is always busy. For a table for two this past weekend at 10:00 am, the quoted wait was an hour. We decided to order a to-go order and eat elsewhere outside! I was so curious about these massive, crazy-looking biscuit sandwiches. The flavors sounded one-of-a-kind and the pictures looked amazing. It didn't let us down! We each got a biscuit sandwich. Me-- the Blueberry Chipotle Chicken and my friend-- the Chicken and Gravy. She loved hers from the first bite, even if it was a little spicy for her. It's not really supposed to be spicy, but you get that nice little peppery kick. The gravy was truly delicious and I would recommend! Now for the Blueberry Chipotle... oh my gosh. Is this real? I took a bite while I was blabbing about something insignificant, completely unfocused on the food. My taste buds were shocked, having expected a "normal" biscuit flavor. But no! What was this? The sweet and savory combo REALLY works. I'm telling you. I'm also someone that doesn't always like reduced fruit compotes and sauces in desserts, so I was shocked by how much I loved it. I've been following this biscuit shop and the diner on social media for awhile as they are in the same location as True Flavors diner. I was recently in the area on a Friday and ordered online. They're located in a strip mall and because of covid the dining room is closed to the public but they will bring your order to your vehicle once it's ready. I ordered the spiced mushroom, cheese and egg biscuit and it was a beautiful presentation that I almost didn't want to mess up by eating it. It was a huge portion and it was delicious but I just couldn't eat it all. I'm looking forward to returning to try other biscuit masterpieces served here. read more

Overall the biscuits were amazing and the chicken was perfectly cooked. They are packed full of flavor and extremely tasty. The biscuits are extremely difficult and messy to eat. You need a knife and fork, you definitely can not just pick it up and eat. The store is confusing to find. Originally went to their Durham location only to find out the food is being made at a different location, their true flavors office. Will definitely be back knowing now where the place is located. Finally had the chance to drive up here before they closed for the day, and I'm so glad I did. The Blueberry Chipotle Chicken was SO good!! A bit on the pricey side for a biscuit sandwich, but the portions are big, and I think the flavors are so worth it. The spicy chicken goes so well with the sweet biscuit & blueberry syrup. Definitely a bit heavy for brunch or breakfast, but I still think it's a must try. I also got the raspberry dessert biscuit and it was also very delicious. We were in the area so we had to stop and try these biscuits and I'm so glad we did! I wanted to try their bestseller because of the interesting combination of blueberry and chipotle and I was surprised on how well those two flavors went together! Blueberry sauce with a hint of spice! The chicken was still crunchy and flavorful. The biscuits were ginormous and dense to be able to hold the size of the chicken, but the sauce softened it perfectly! This was a damn good meal, but my husbands gravy biscuit was my favorite! The chicken, again was huge, the gravy was perfect! I could have eaten a vat of that and live happily ever after! We will definitely be making a special trip back! read more
