I end up having to spend thousands and thousands of $$$ in order to fix the problems caused by…read moreMartin, and wasting weeks of my time.
What hiring Martin has caused me:
- hire another contractor to redo the edge and corner pieces that Martin did badly, and a floor tile sticking out so badly it could chip my toe nails. -- $1500
- to do the job Martin didn't do because he fled before finishing any of my two bathrooms. -- $4000 (no one wants to clean up after other people's s***)
- wasted tiles/ materials because everything Martin did needs to be demolished and start over. - $700
- to fix damaged floor. -- $12,000
- causing a delay in my move-in by at least 2 months -- $5000
Even before he started the job, Martin started complaining about how far my home is and how he is getting tired just driving there. So I let him stay at my home to ease the commune, but Martin's complaints just kept going. Please allow me to present:
The glorious list of Martin's quotes!
1. "Your home is too old! You wall is slanted!"
- My home was built in 2005. But this is Martin's excuse to not able to align tiles at the edge, or leveling them in the middle, resulting in an ugly excess wall piece at the edge, which I have to hire a dry wall contractor to fix.
Excuse me, my wall must have grown or moved during the tiling process, so it surprised Martin.
There are other tile alignment issues and some tiles obviously higher than others, especially the entire edge (because Martin didn't bother to prep the wall in a way that would be even after the metal trim is inserted).
2. "If your wall is off by a hair, the tile will be off by an inch."
- Before you hire Martin, you better ask your self: is my home built this year? Is it built by the best builder on this planet with every wall and every edge absolutely perfect? Is the answer is no to any of this, you would be causing Martin troubles. It's the walls' fault, always.
3. "I thought this is going to be easy! But this is hard!" Martin was basically yelling this in our last phone call.
- Hear this, potential customers. Martin only does "easy" jobs, the kind of jobs that you could have done yourself at home. He hates hard jobs, and clearly he doesn't have a way of assessing a job correctly when he meets you to do in-home consultation and quoting. This is why he estimated 3-7 day completion time, but didn't even finish half of the job after a week.
He also gave me the wrong number for the tiles, not sure if it's a math problem or a measurement problem, but it's a problem that he didn't discover until much later.
4. "Your home is so far away from Home Depot! I have to go back and forth many times, and it's causing me to lose momentum. "
- My home is 5 minutes away from a Home Depot. We were in Home Depot the first morning together where I asked him to pick out everything he needs and I paid for them. Still, Martin gave me 5 separate receipts after 4 days. Because Martin doesn't know what he needs, he can't get it at once. If you can't have everything ready and set for him at the start of the job, he's going to blame you. And by the way, each time he goes to the Home Depot, he is going to spend 1-2 hours in them (admitted by himself over the phone), because even though he may know what he wants when he walked in, he gets distracted in the store.
A picture is worth a thousand words. You can compare the actual tiling work he has done for me with the promotional photos he has uploaded himself.
