If I could leave a lower star I would. Set up a move 3 days in advance and scheduled our work days completely around them. Was supposed to start at 9am, never showed up.... Called the owner who said "well you didn't text me the address" to a different cell phone number even though he was provided the correct address when setting up the move. He apologized. Said he would make it right; by scheduling the team to get here between 12pm and 1pm the same day to get the move done, so we rescheduled our entire day. No one showed up again, and now the company phone line is off. What a joke. read more

I rented a truck and had it ready. at 10:50 they text to say running late, more like 1pm. 1pm rolled around, and I asked for an ETA. He said 2pm. 2Pm rolled around and I asked for ETA, no response. 2:30,I sent a text to cancel. 2:38 response: 20 minutes away. I replied that I requested cancel, I won't be there. Regarding a within Ventura County move of several items of furniture. Dean & Son's called the morning of the pick-up to reconfirm time, they were prompt, can-do in attitude, capable, and very efficient. The main item I was concerned about was a large, very heavy, high-end leather sofa that I thought could easily be damaged during moving. NO WORRIES! They encased the sofa to prevent any scratches to the surface. Whew! The delivery at the other end was timely, as was the unloading & associated paperwork. I was so grateful to Dean & Son's moving. We had little to no time to pack before we had to get out of our apt and they jumped in and got it done. We have a few pieces of furniture that were hand made for us, and they took great care to ensure that those pieces, along with the rest of the truck arrived swiftly and in the state they picked them up in. When that didn't work, they arrived 7 hours late and sent a high schooler and another young man. I was in a tough spot trying to move my studio apartment into a 2 bedroom townhome. My roommate and I could not move a couple of heavy items. I was calling around on Sunday morning (really hoping anyone would pick up) for movers around the Oxnard area. It was going to be costly for us to keep our uhaul an extra day. I feared we just were not going to be able to move the remaining items. Dean was one of the few to return my call and he was very professional. Most importantly he was understanding of our situation and made an exception to help us in a bind. I was thankful I had trusted the yelp reviews I read prior to reaching out to him. He was able to fit us in their schedule early the next morning to help us move some heavy items (tempurpedic bed frame and 3 seat couch, up steep and skinny stairs). The movers he sent were great and you could tell they had experience with our situation. It was no breeze for them to move the items. I would definitely choose to hire them again when I eventually move out of this townhome. Can not say enough good things about Dean and Son's Moving! They were amazing for my home move! About a week before my move, I contacted Dean to provide an estimate for my home move. I left a message for Dean and he promptly called me back. He even came out the next day, which was a Sunday, and provided me with all the information I needed to know regarding pricing and the process on packing/moving. Fast forward to day of: Nick, one of the movers, called me about 45 mins prior to their start time informing me they were running a couple mins late - which was okay with me since this allowed me more time to get a little organized at home. When Nick and Zach arrived, they quickly got started packing. Because I had a lot of "stuff", packing took longer than expected; however, these two gentleman didn't complain once! There was a total of 3 trips made and the guys worked until about 8pm. They never complained and truly went above and beyond packing my items (properly, at that, too). When it came to unloading the truck, each and every time my items were taken care of and there was no damage to any of my belongings. I was in need of movers and found this company on Yelp. I decided to take a chance after seeing the good reviews here and I am sure glad I did. Last year I used another company that is well known in this area and they did a poor job and charged me a lot. Rick and Mike moved me from an apartment in Ventura to another in Oxnard as well as a stop at storage to drop off some stuff. They both were super friendly, worked really hard and were fast but very careful with my things. The price was very affordable. I have moved many times and this was in my top 3 moving experiences!! My wife and I were in the middle of house buying when the COVID-19 lockdowns began. The sale went through quickly and we were faced with an awkward realization that we had to move quickly and had few people willing to help. Worse we have this HUGE heavy bed and mattress with vibrating motors; a bed I swore I'd set fire to rather than move again. Just kidding but I hated the idea. So we opted to hire movers. My wife contacted Dean & Sons and set it up. The rates were reasonable and they were available. Talk about "essential personnel"! Joseph and Luke arrived on time yesterday. Joseph explained the process and cost. We went through the list of what needed moving, mostly the heavy furniture. Then they set to work. Very efficient and very communicative. Explained what they were doing next, verified what we wanted done. And they moved pieces I swore couldn't be moved upstairs, even our bed. They were clean, polite, and patient. I had used this company to help me and my family move into Oxnard. The owner Carlo never showed up to the job although he said he was going too. The workers were very good at moving except they were given no equipment by their boss so they had to go out and get mask, moving equipment. They charge you per hour for their commute to you, but they don't tell you this up front. So while they say they service the whole LA area, what you'll find out is that you're gonna get charged 70 dollars an hour for them to sit in traffic coming from Ventura. That's in addition to a 35 dollar fuel charge. I paid 315 dollars (cash only - no checks or anything else) for 4 hours of labor from 2 guys, which is a little steep, but not too bad. Turns out though, 2 of those hours (140 dollars worth) went to pay them per hour for them to drive from their home in Ventura to Westchester. They arrived at 12:40, and by 2:40 they were getting ready to leave, even though the tasks I had asked to get done weren't done yet. I had to call the boss and talk to him to get them to not leave me without all the work done, and he just begrudgingly agreed to let them stay another half hour (til 3:20), which got the big item done, but not all the stuff that I had wanted to get done. In the end I got 2 hours and 40 minutes of work (only after forcing that extra 30 mins out) , but paid for a full 4 hours PLUS a 35 dollar fuel charge. I will repeat, they did NOT mention that the clock starts ticking as soon as they leave their houses to the job site. I've never heard of a moving company charging this, and I'm sure most Los Angeles residents would love to be paid 70/hr for their commute to work, but that's not how commuting works. I will give the caveat that the 2 guys who were helping with the move were friendly, courteous, and did a good job (although not a complete one since they were forced to leave before the full four hours). The problem is the boss, who will charge you for the drive, but not tell you. I coulda easily hired a 10% more expensive person right down the street, and gotten the full 4 hours worth. read more

Horrible customer service. Cancelled the day of leaving our entire family in a huge lurch. We had taken the day off of our jobs, our dad is in the hospital due to a stroke and we explained everything to them prior to arrival. We provided a detailed description of large furniture, how many rooms etc. and even said we did not think 2 guys were enough at estimate. They showed up and said too big of a job unless we wanted to pay double almost triple the price. They then just left. We have moved several times and have never encountered such dishonest, rude, price gouging service. read more

These guys were amazing! I had to move in June from across town. They arrived and got to work quickly. Making sure to wrap and tape anything that did not look secure. I have a sleep number bed which is troublesome to move and they were able to help us get it apart and move it. The two men moving us were very kind and helpful. We arrived at our new house and they moved quickly and efficiently to place everything in the rooms I labeled on the boxes, and stack everything in the garage. SAVE YOURSELF FROM THESE MOVERS - please read this: they hung me up and did not show up. When I booked the job almost a week in advance, the owner, Carlo asked me to work with him and allow him to start at 12 PM instead of 9 AM because he had a quick early move and I said ok and went along with it. On the day of the move (today) they are already 40 minutes late when I called Carlo the owner and he said that they are running late and he said it will be later than 2 hours late and I should wait for their call when they finish the previous job...(what choice did I have so late in the day now) I said that I'll wait, but try to start my job soon. Carlo then apologises for not calling me to tell me he is running late and he gives me a feeble excuse of forgetting the last 2 numbers of my phone number (is that a way to do business?) It is his responsibility to call me if he is running late. Period. Then around 3:30 PM I get a call from one of his movers telling me that they will not be done on their job before 6PM. I called Carlo who should have been professional and call me himself, instead of having his worker call me. I missed the day's work tomorrow because I had to hire another mover. I have lost over $350 because of the incompetence of Dean and Sons. I had a pay for an extra day's rent where I now live and I'm also missing a days work and pay caused by Dean and Sons. This was a nightmare! Movers need to be reliable and professional. I hired Dean and sons because it is a local family business, and I support that. read more

DO NOT HAVE THEM PACK YOUR FRAGILE ITEMS. DO NOT COUNT ON THEM TO BRING ENOUGH BOXES, ETC. CARLO DOES NOT KEEP HIS AGREEMENTS. I have been using Yelp a lot for different services lately related to moving as well as for other needs that have come up. I have had great experiences with the service providers I've found here up until hiring Dean and Sons. I had started out the day feeling surprisingly relaxed and organized for a smooth move. I asked to have a brief strategy check-in before they started. I told them that I had a lot of back pain and would rather they work a little slower so I would be set up for as much ease as possible with unpacking. Their response was that their boss would get upset if they took too long. They were so rushed, instead of helping minimize the stress of moving, as stated in their Yelp profile, a tense atmosphere was created by the very evident anxiety of one of them. I found Carlo to be quite unprofessional. The guys who did the job were alright. They had a very inadequate supply of boxes and packing materials. So they had to use several of my garbage bags and carried some items out separately that could've been boxed together. What kind of professional moving company cannot execute this basic foundation of a safe, efficient move?! As I unpacked the next day, I discovered that because of the shortage of boxes and packing materials, a tall, linen box was used for packing the kitchen. It was filled to the brim with heavy kitchen items such as a lobster pot and a frying pan, combined with delicate kitchen items such as champagne flutes. The pan is a brand new Green Pan, a special non-toxic, ceramic pan that cost $27. This was scratched. The 2 Champagne flutes were broken. I called Carlo during the process to inform him of the lack of boxes, etc., and how this had slowed the packing and loading. He put the onus on me to come up with my own resolution. He agreed with my request to take 30 minutes off the hourly rate. Then he went back on his word from the previous day that he would take a check and demanded cash. Because of his company's ineptitude, I was inconvenienced twice. It felt like he was retaliating for me asserting myself. Then after I discovered the damaged items, I asked for compensation for the pan in cash. He agreed and we arranged for him to come to my new apartment the next day to deliver it. Then the next day, when I followed up, he insisted on a receipt and a picture of the damage. I was so done with this guy by then, I told him to keep my $27. read more

I'm a planner, and contacted Dean to get on his schedule almost a month in advance. He didn't want to see what my move entailed even though I offered and described my home and possessions. He ended up not having my reservation in his calendar even though I called twice and emailed once - That's when I should have scrambled to hire someone else. Even though I described my move, they showed up late due to a sick mover (it happens), took apart the wrong piece of furniture and charged me for their time (total mistake by mover. I labeled the one piece of furniture I needed taken apart and physically pointed it out to them) and I had to spend hours putting it back together. The movers ran out of time to move my residence 1.5 miles away (they said it was late, around 6 pm) and then wouldn't grant me time the next day or day after to finish moving me. Dean dodged my phone calls and one of his employees admitted Dean made all decisions and was focused on "the money". I needed to be out of my home. By the way, I was fully packed, organized, with all boxes labeled and walked all the movers through my house. They took apart the wrong piece of furniture when I went to buy them lunch - my kindness backfired. Oh, and they took forever to drive 1.5 miles since they needed gas. I paid them by the hour and tipped them well, only for zero goodwill to come back my way. This owner doesn't care, snd that why you shouldn't use them! read more
