I wouldn't be the biggest fan of O'Briens as a rule. That is not to say that I don't like the food…read moreat O'Briens; their sandwiches are pretty good as a rule, and I like the little touch of the handful of crisps at the side. It's just it wouldn't be the place that I would automatically think of if I was out and about and wanted a sandwich. But there was a time a little over a year ago when we were making a short film set in a car dealership. We found a car dealership in Bluebell industrial estate that was willing to let us film there. It's no small wonder that we found our location there, as Bluebell industrial estate (or JFK Trading Centre, as it is officially and perplexingly known) is an endless windblown expanse of acres of car dealerships and related industries. The place we were filming was set a bit off the main road, and seemingly miles away from the nearest shops. This left us with the tricky business of finding somewhere to feed and water out actors in some bit of comfort, but lo and behold, what should we happen upon in this desolate end of west Dublin industrial apocalyptico but an O'Briens Irish Sandwich Bar, dead in the middle of the industrial estate and a hop and skip away from where we were filming. The existence of an O'Briens in this locale would in itself warrant a four-star review, but this O'Briens happens to be an unusually nice branch of the franchise, possibly the nicest O'Briens that I've ever been in. I feel that sometimes that the furnishings in O'Briens can be a little bit Spartan, but this was not the case of the one in Bluebell. Bright yellow and blue armchairs, nice coffee tables, totally incongruous with its setting but all the more welcoming for it. If you happen to find it necessary to head out to Bluebell industrial estate, keep an eye out for the O'Briens, right after Phoenix Motors, near the back.

I started work at Park West Industrial Estate a fortnight ago and good Jaysus it's like a set from…read morethe Walking Dead. So so little in terms of nice lunch options. So when a work colleague told me about this little gem I got very excited. The first time I tried it I got a salad which to be honest I was not overly impressed with. I asked for certain things in it as you can make your own. Not a huge amount of chicken or avocado and the large size was not terribly large. Extremely average. BUT THEN I went back and got a sambo. It was quite amazing. The have all sorts of different breads to choose from and what I love about it is they have bread from Bretzel Bakery which is pretty top notch bread. I got pastrami, gherkins, cos and mustard on rye bread. Now this rye bread is not rye bread as I know it. But it was still amazing. They did not have enough pastrami for a portion so the lady taking my order asked me if I would like to mix it with something else. Marvellous idea. So they threw in some salami. I got back to my desk at work and had a sambogasm. They do hot food here too. Which is probably too calorific for me who is a good boy mid week when it comes to carbs and fats. But it looks and smells really good. Staff are super fast. Super nice. Super efficient. Tips - Ask for the Bretzel Bakery bread, there's a couple of options. The baguettes are probably Cuisine De France and the sliced pan looks just standard. Check out their menu online before you go. The queue moves very very quickly and with so much option for sambos you could make a rookie mistake by ordering something you don't really want. Ask for cos lettuce rather than the standard lettuce. It's a lot nicer. Bring cash. They don't appear to have credit card facilities at the moment.
