I started a job not too far from 147 Deli and my coworker said 147 Deli for a good lunch spot. I came here last week and got the Reuben sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup. The staff were friendly and it was busy, but not too full. I came in a little after 130pm, and I think I'd been in a bit earlier there would have been longer lunch queues. If there is a queue it's worth the wait. I haven't had a Reuben sandwich probably since I left Canada in 2016 (Reuben's are American, but you can get them all over Canada too). Dark rye bread, corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, dill pickle, and Russian dressing. It was delicious. Pickles aren't a staple on Reuben sandwiches, but I love pickles and was happy with this addition. It adds a nice little tang, along with the dressing. The soup was warm and delicious with a bright tomato flavour. Soup changes daily. Portions were quite large. I just got the soup and sandwich and when I ordered I wondered if it would be enough. It was. My tummy was quite happy after lunch here. I'll be back for sure. Or maybe I'll just order in, because they have free delivery in D1. read more

Ok so, we know the basics already: - The food is exceptional. Those sandwiches. They are so. Freaking. Good. Amazing ingredients, perfectly cooked, classic and unusual combinations, and they're just the right size. Goldilocks sambos if you will. - It's arguably the first 'hipster' or 'cooler' spot to open up around the Parnell St area, and is a welcome addition at that. What I didn't realise is that it's chock full of friendly, good-mood inducing staff. We were greeted by each of them as we came in, but before you think it, not in an inane brainwashed Abercrombie & Fitch type way..! They all look as if they genuinely love to work there, and the atmosphere created by them is infectious. If I owned a sandwich shop, this is what I'd want it to look like, and these are the staff I'd want to be in it. This will without a doubt be a regular haunt for me from now on. This is a much-neglected part of town, so I was delighted to hear, via Lovin Dublin, about this hot, new sandwich bar. On the day I called, it was busy, but I got a seat easily after claiming my order of the 'Any sandwich and a soup' for €7.50. The soup was *gorgeous* - mushroom with a garlic and parsley oil drizzle. The portion wasn't huge - but the size perfectly complemented the large Roast Beef sandwich with Rocket, Red Onion and Parmesan I had alongside. Truly delicious. 147 Deli...Where have you been all my life? This is currently my favourite sandwich spot in town, hands down! Great menu, just the right size with something for everybody! I'd recommend the Cheese Steak or the Reuben- both almost make my cry they're so tasty! The soup changes on a daily basis too and seems really popular! Dublin Doughnut Co supply the doughnuts, the last day I was in there they had a few snickers and creme brulee left but by the time I got to the top of the queue they were all gone (devastated). This place is always jammers so to avoid having to wait longer than necessary for your yummy sambo I'd advise going a little before or after lunch hour. The sandwiches here are amazing. So far I've tried the bbq pulled pork and the 147 steak. The pork oozed everywhere but so what? That's what napkins are for!! Oh and as for the 147 steak.. It wouldn't be out of place in an NYC deli. The sandwiches are so fresh and just nom! You can tell that time is spent on the prep and they certainly getting the best flavour out of the ingredients.. What a great deli place in the North City Centre! Slightly off my hunting ground but well worth the extra 10min walk. Friendly staff, cool artwork and what am I forgetting....? Oh yes of course: the sandwiches! Yum, yum, yum. First of all, it was hard to choose. Everything sounded equally as nice as the next one on the menu so I picked the one that I was least likely to make myself at home: the Reuben. Oh, you should try it. The dark rye bread brought back childhood memories (in a good way), it was nicely toasted and filled to almost burger size with all things Reuben like pastrami and sauerkraut. I'm not sure what Parnell Street was originally known for, but nowadays it's Asian Restaurants and bus stops. Thankfully this little GEM breaks that mould. All the food is fresh and what's on offer is constantly changing. Meaning you can go loads and loads and never be bored! Thankfully they keep the favourites on a set menu though, so you can revisit them when the time calls for a meatball sub! Atmosphere at lunch time is especially nice, buzzy but not crazy busy. The NYTimes did an article about sandwiches in Dublin fairly recently. 147 Deli was one of the restaurants mentioned in the article, specifically for their pulled pork sandwiches. I found myself famished and just a few minutes away from 147 Deli after ending a 1916 Rising tour at the Garden of Remembrance so I decided to give the pulled pork a try. I am definitely happy I did! Wow - what a great sandwich and at a fantastic price. I had a hard time sticking to the pulled pork as my choice because so many of the other options sounded good, too. I was really expecting more for all the fuss everyone makes about it. In fact, I had completely forgotten I had come here for ages until it popped up on my recommendations on Yelp again - oops! I had one of the wraps and was quite disappointed with the lack of flavor. It also wasn't very large - not sure if the staff that day was just being stingy but there was definitely a bit of lax tortilla which would have allowed for much more stuffing. It was also sort of a weird temperature which I couldn't figure out - just slightly warmer than room temperature so I was unclear if they had tried to toast or warm it, or if it was previously warm and had just cooled down significantly. The Sumac chicken wrap that I got wasn't gross or anything, just kind of bland - whatever flavor was there was nice, it just seemed like there wasn't enough of it. When I see tabbouleh and feta I expect at least a bit of a kick but it really just didn't come through. I was there with two friends and one only got coffee while the other went for the pulled pork, which I didn't try but he said was very good. Service was okay but as it was very busy everyone was understandably rushed. Again, not bad, just didn't feel like the Disneyland of Deli that everyone else is describing. In all honesty I think I'd try another few delis in the area before declaring this one the best. read more

Even though O'Connell St. is arguably Dublin's main thoroughfare, the area is still lacking a decent food scene. So it's a pleasant surprise to find 147 Deli, its most recent (hidden?) gem. I must say I'm delighted to see a business like this choosing this location and - at least apparently - thriving, showing that there's a clientele over on the North side of the Liffey craving for good food and good service. Located on Parnell St, amid the usual bargain shops and asian food joints, its clean façade stands out from the rest. Go in, grab a drink from the shelves if you like and join the rest of the hungry folks on the queue along the counter. Don't be scared if it looks like it is a little packed (once you taste their sambos you'll understand why it's busy) or the queue is long, they manage to serve everybody quite quickly and if you want to sit inside there are plenty of little tables, chances are you'll find at least one free. They also wrap your food for take away. They have a set menu of about six sandwiches, plus a special of the week and soup. They do combo deals of soup+sambo that are the perfect fulfilling lunch at very good value. They also have vegetarian options and are careful to ask if you are ok with eating stuff like cheese with those. So, the food. Have I mentioned it's delicious? They based their menu around simple, fresh ingredients and made it work without it being too dull or predictable. Beyond the sandwiches and soups, they also have coffee and other small treats, like pastries or cake slices, though I still haven't tried neither of them. I was advised to hit this place for it's sandwiches and I wasn't disappointed. The queue was big when I got there (always a good sign), but it moved quickly and I was served promptly. I went for the cheese steak sandwich. It was delicious, but it could have been bigger tbh. The place is comfortable too. For breakfast most people would prefer with sausage, eggs, pancakes etc., but I'm not a huge fan of having a traditional breakfast. So I was quite pleased that at 9 am I could get a pulled bbq pork sandwich! Lots of meat and not too much sauce, it was the perfect lunch for breakfast option. So I have been wanting to try 147 for ages but only brave the crowds around O'Connell St when I am in desperate need of a kitchenware restock from Arnotts. On Saturday I was scheduled to teach class at our gym location in Clontarf so decided I would reward myself afterward with a trip by 147. After class I hopped on my bike and was there in about 5 minutes. I quickly scanned the menu and settled on the Reuben. I was not the best smelling after my class so thought I'd be kind to the other patrons and take the food to go. In no time I was outside and enjoying my piping hot sandwich. The bread was delicious and crunchy from the toaster and after one bite, I was a believer. Layers of flavourful corned beef top with sauerkraut, russian dressing, pickles and loads of melted cheese. Did the sandwich completely undo the time I spent at the gym? Yes. Was it completely worth it? Without a doubt. Looks like I'll need to make another Arnott's run soon... read more

Everything had a clean presentation. An efficient place. The mocha chocolate is one of the best I've tasted. Just enough sweetness plus a thick creamy milky foam on top. Only after hitting the 2 year mark in my adopted home of Dublin did I start to get mysterious pangs of longing for foods that I had completely taken for granted when I lived in the US. Among these items are things such as 1) really good doughnuts (which thank heavens are having a bit of a moment in Dublin right now) and 2) NYC deli-style sandwiches that don't skimp on flavor (not that I don't appreciate a good chicken fillet roll). My coworkers had been yammering on for weeks about the doughnuts here so I finally checked it out and while the doughnut (salted caramel, mmmm) was lovely, it was the ruben sandwich that really knocked my socks off. I'm the kind of stingy bastard who hates to spend their hard-earned money on something as mundane as a sandwich, so if I'm splashing out on a sandwich (and yes I consider €7.50 for some bread, meat, and condiments to be splashing out) it better deliver. This one was a real winner and by the next day I was already reminiscing about it longingly (and actually right now too). I will say that in the future I will probably opt for takeaway as the seating area looks deceptively large in the yelp photos, and the place got pretty stuffy during the friday lunch rush. I also think they could improve the efficiency at the cash register if the guy taking your money wasn't also making sandwiches because it seemed a bit frantic and disorganized. Deli 147 is a new addition to Parnell street which has brought a new hipster feel to the area. Well worth checking out. Great for lunch. The pulled pork is delicious. The breakfast bap with sausage, bacon on an onion bap is a definite must try ESP with a freshly brewed cappuccino. The coffee is delicious. The Reuben is amazing ESP coming from someone that isn't much of a beef lover. Love the staff there too. Everyone is very friendly and happy to help. 147 was kinda the start of the hipster food revival around these parts which is great because I work nearby. When 147 opened I found it hard to just go there once a week, the sandwiches were just so good. We labelled them in work as "greasy sambos" not in a bad way but in a deliciously greasy, dirty messy tasty bad stuff kinda way. The staff are very pleasant and nice and will always engage you in conversation when you go in. They also serve Dublin Doughnut Company doughnuts on Thursday/ Friday and Saturday which is great if you need a sugary pick me up. So why only give it a three star review? Lack of choice for vegetarians. When they opened they had two veggie sambos on their menu and now they only have one and it seems like a super healthy option and to add insult to injury, it has pesto on it so any vegetarian with a nut allergy... For example me... cant have a delicious sandwich. Bring back your 4 cheese sandwich 147... Vegetarians need to be fed more than couscous you know. We need naughty stuff too. read more

I'm still warming to this place. I tried the salmon sambo and found it a bit heavy and gloopy. I tried their ginger and carrot soup, wasn't really impressed. It kind of tasted like it had been sitting there a while. I was hoping it would taste fresh, sweet and warming, what I got was savory, creamy, and a hum of spice with no carrot taste what so ever. Which is probably some peoples thing but it wasn't for me. The staff are always very welcoming and nice. I've never actually sat in there, seems like a nice vibe. I love this place, has a funky atmosphere, always great music playing, the staff are super nice and the smells as you walk in the door are just amazing! They always have a weekly special sandwich and have a great menu of sandwiches served with a small side salad. All their meats are smoked on site and just melt in the mouth. They also have different soups too and do special combos and on a huge nite, cater for gluten intolerance. Expect a long queue at lunch time, but it's well worth the wait! read more

One of the first places I visited for food in Dublin and I was not disappointed. Very fast service, original tastes, friendly staff, and great location. A short walk away from the business of shopping, but just far enough that you're not fighting the hordes of hungry shoppers. The ambience is coffee shop meets deli. Fun, upbeat music, an energetic crew, and a vibrant interior. You're going to get your order much sooner than you'd think, so don't plan on plugging in and waiting a while. Keep your area clear and your taste buds ready, because they're about to get rocked. While I've only had a chicken and a steak sandwich, I've been extremely happy with their products. Original flavors that actually use the bread to enhance overall taste. Nothing is too bold, everything complements each other, and the portion size is perfect. The crowd, a nice mixture, different ages, a work crowd, tourists, hipsters I suppose, to use the term!, regular folk like moi! A lot seem to opt for take out, getting a seat wasn't a prob even during this busy period. Really cool, modern interior, plenty of seating, on the right, a huge map of Dublin with a counter top the length of the wall with lots of colourful high chairs. Tables, chairs with cushions in the back, really contemporary and comfy. Overall there is a great vibe in the place with cool, funky music. It puts you in great form! So anyway, for my sandwich I could have tried them all and in time I will but first time here I opted for the 147 Reuben, corned beef, saurkraut, dill pickles, swiss cheese and homemade Russian dressing on multiseed bread. Absolutely delicious! I tried one of their doughnuts too, fantastic. Really unique, inventive fillings. The only thing is because they are so delicious and inviting they seem to sell out quickly. Dublin now has a plethora of good sandwich shops, and I've been lucky enough to try most of team but you won't beat 147 for flavour and fresh ingredients. You'll struggle to get a seat at lunch time but the garden of remembrance is only around the corner so no problem sitting out.
