If you go to Cafe Moda make sure you sit upstairs in the back part with the sofas - it would be a waste sitting in the boring chairs at the front - absolutely NO atmosphere comparatively! Upstairs has bright colours, interesting wall paintings and eclectic seating arrangements. Much more exciting than your downstairs counterpart, with its boring black chairs and clean lines. I'm currently visiting from the states and Cafe Moda was near my airbnb and very high rated. I now understand the 4 star rating. My decaf americano had great flavor and temperature and my Irish breakfast was very good. It's a big plate with lots of food. Absolutely worth and will be returning any and every time I'm in Dublin. The atmosphere is casual but not too loud. The staff is kind and works quickly to get your order to your table. Great job, Cafe Moda. If you are coming in for a meal... like a big plate of hangover bacon and toast and sweet sweet coffee and some quiet and "honestly dear, I'm shoping" then be sensible. Do not go up the stairs at the back and be tempted by the comfy looking armchairs and coffee tables, these are chairs and tables for a casual coffee, not for eating at. The problem of course is that in a hungover state, you don't think in terms of 'I'll have to balance the plate on my knee and in my condition that is a sketchy prospect and where the hell is that coffee?'... no, all you see us a comfy chair. Very cute and casual café, with probably one of the most enthusiastic and sweet waitresses I've ever had! I just popped in here for a quick breakfast before work and I got a simple bacon bagel and a cappuchino. Both were served very quickly and both were delicious--exactly what I needed! I can imagine these would be a perfect cure after a bit of a mad night! The place was very busy when I was there and the one waitress on the floor was a bit run off her feet but she was very sweet and chatty with everyone. If coffee-shops had a theme tunes, it'd be "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me". We treat coffee-shops like crap, but they just take it, desperate for our approval. We expect them to be there for us early in the morning and late into the night. We make unreasonable demands, scolding places that don't pamper us for a pittance. In return we don't even offer fidelity, gleefully doing the dirt on them with any high-street chain or train-station kiosk going. Cafe Moda is a prime example of this messed-up relationship. It's a great coffee shop. The coffee is strong, nice selection of nibbles. The surroundings are cosy, and there's a nice upstairs for those looking for some privacy. They stay open relatively late (roughly 8pm) and they've free, open wi-fi too. They give a bit back too, hosting any manner of get-together that'll get a few people in the door. It's probably the best spot for coffee in Rathmines, now that I think of it. read more

As I've visited more often, this place has both gained & lost points in different ways - hence the same rating. On the downside, I wouldn't call it my go-to place for club sandwiches, having found a fair bit better elsewhere. My friend and I stopped here for breakfast one morning. I was thrilled to see that they had a veggie breakfast available (I keep a kind of mental list of places where I can find this) at a good price, maybe about 7 euro. We had to wait quite a long time for the food to come out. I don't know why, but the staff rubbed me the wrong way. The food was good- fried eggs, toast, beans, and veggie sausage. The sausages could have been cooked a bit more, but if you're not a vegetarian, you probably wouldn't know how to prepare them (look at me being a veggie snob). All in all, nothing really struck me about the interior. It's a nice location in beautiful Rathmines, and we had the window seat which was a plus. It was decent, but I probably wouldn't return if I had other choices. read more

A couple of weeks ago, before a Sunday afternoon stroll on Sandymount Strand, we went for brunch in Cafe MOda. My Dad calls it his local because he's gone there everythime he's come up to stay with us since he moved in. He's partial to the all-day breakfast. On this occasion, and my first to have anything other than a scone with a coffee, I went for the scrambled egg with smoked salmon and toast. It was lovely and light and a nice portion. I was full without feeling stuffed. She had the breakast bap which looked a fine wedge of bap with 2 sausages on the side. Both came in at €5.95. The only downside was the fresh orange juice wasn't much more than room temperature but they were quick to add a few ice cubes on request. read more

Oh I really really like this place and it is great to come here on a Sunday afternoon about 6pm when the footie is over, the place is nearly empty and the newspapers are free to read and pour over all evening. The coffee here is really nice and they always seem to have soya milk in stock and it is a good quality soya milk and tastes really nice in the drinks. They also serve flat whites, which I have been looking for since coming back from New Zealand. These are a mix between lattes and cuppuccinos. The mugs are a grand size and cost a very reasonable 2.70euro. There is a really great upstairs sofa area and outside smoking garden, a busy cafe area on the ground floor and another comfy seat area down one floor more by the toilets. The toilets themselves are a bit old mind and could so with a face lift. There are lots of jenga and chess games and tonnes of reading material, big screen tv's, good music, funky art on the walls and delicious cakes to be had! What a great place! read more

Full Irish Breakfast for $6.95 with coffee! I'll take it! The menu is limited; but, the few items offered are decent. I enjoyed an egg and smoked salmon scramble with toast and coffee for only $5.95. My companion fully enjoyed the full Irish breakfast as well! Eggs are also only offered two ways: fried or scrambled. But, they're tasty nonetheless. The staff is super friendly and the tunes are great as well (80's music when we stopped in for breakfast over the weekend.) There are two levels for dining; so, walking in isn't an issue. I've been here twice and the staff don't seem particularly friendly and are quite slow. I went this morning and ordered two breakfasts. My girlfriend had a cappuchino instead of a regular coffee. It states on the menu in rather vague terms that you are charged extra for substituting items, but when ordering were never warned that the cappuchino would cost more. I went to pay and was charged €2.75 extra for the coffee. I was informed that the cappuchino didn't constitute a regular coffee so would be charged extra, which is fair enough. But to be charged the price of an entire coffee extra (€2.75) is ridiculous when the difference between a regular coffee and a cappuchino is 15 cent. I spoke to the manager who was not particularly understanding and rather inflexible in her approach. The food was ok, if lukewarm. The staff aren't very quick (or friendly). I won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it. read more

Ok.... my reason for bumping this place up is because of a wonderful staff experience. A friend was visiting recently and as usual when friends visit, we were getting little to no sleep but totally happy while doing. Anywhooooo, we swung by this place for a good ole Irish full to jump start our livers, when my friend dropped not one, but both pieces of toast on the floor. So the lovely waitress brought her extra toast.... and when I mean extra, I mean two extra pieces on top of the two extra ones and then brought jam as well. I always feel a bit meh when people suggest going here but I gotta say its a solid option for breakfast. It's very low key and laid back, food is inexpensive and plentiful. Lots of fried breakfast options if you like that kind of thing. I recommend the bagel w cream cheese. Their smoothie is pretty good, as are the baked goods. A great spot in Rathmines. Fantastic coffee and bites, lovely staff, and a random conversation usually guaranteed, or not. Privacy is easy to maintain even when it is bustling. A major downside is the internet connection. It is incredibly unreliable, drops off frequently and is very frustrating if you need to get anything done over a length of time. The default one tends to be FREEPUBSPOTS from Toast next door, and that is a pain in it's own special way. Please sort this out. There are plenty of tables for enjoying food and some lounging chairs and coffee tables if you're just having drinks. However, the cafe lacked in atmosphere. I remember I went on a date here once and it went really crappy. The girl was really hot and I was wearing my best shirt but the date just went really bad for some reason. I mean I told a lot of my best anecdotes and I remember being genuinely funny. Like I commented on a bunch of the stuff in the cafe and made her laugh a bit. This is the type of café that I love. Nothing fancy but good food, especially for the price. I also enjoy the coffee a lot! The service however can be questionable at times. Me and my girlfriend have came here a few times now and we have a running joke about how they always forget to put marshmallows in her hot chocolate, every single time. Cafe Moda is one of the few late night coffee joints in Dublin. It's also a prime spot for hanging out. With fresh baked goods at the counter and a variety of seating areas with a variety of seats (couches, soft chairs, bean bags etc) you can get extremely comfortable in Cafe Moda. They also sell local art on the walls and have random events or gigs on every now and then. Keep an eye on their blackboard outside on the street. The food is ok, it's pretty standard sandwich fare but the vibe makes up for the average food. read more

Cafe Moda has a great cafe atmosphere (hence the name). Along with the great atmosphere, you are treated to free WiFi and one of the friendliest staffs in Dublin. The staff makes you feel at home, and always asking if you need anything else. I've been a couple times and order the Full Irish Breakfast. As far as the breakfast is concerned, it's nothing too special or to die for, but it is good. And for 6.95 with a coffee, it's a bargain. The reason I give this place 4 stars is because the food is good but the hospitality of the staff makes this place worth going to. read more

Moda is one of those place that shape-shifts. On weekday mornings and weekend afternoons it's a warm café, but when the light goes down in Dublin it turns into a more hectic drinking venue. When I lived just up the road, Moda was always a convenient choice to linger on a Sunday afternoon. With its homey atmosphere, it's impossible for me to count how many cups of coffee I've slugged down while reading a book in one of their comfy sofas. I just know they're way too many for my own good. Their forte is also the nice outdoor area in the back, where you can sit on a sunny day in June or keep warm under the heater on a freezing January morning and smoke as much as you like. Having said that, I like Moda for its coffee and atmosphere, but not for its food. Their Eggs Benedict are far from fantastic and the portions are small for the price you pay, Their cakes also look, and taste, a couple of days old. Don't really go here for alcohol, plenty of better joints minutes away, but for a place to increase your caffeine intake (with no cake!) Moda is a nice one. read more

First of all, let me tell you that I think Cafe Moda is unique...I have lived in Rathmines for a few years now and I love this place ! Its laid back, with couches and also has tables and chairs in the front section ...so you can choose whether you want to chill out and relax or be more formal. The cafe, appeals to all ages and I find it a great place to go after the cinema on a Saturday night when you want somewhere to chat and relax for a few hours but aren't dressed up enough for a pub. They have a glass cabinet for cakes, which is nice to have, and sell teas, coffees etc along with fruit juices etc. One can also get pizzas, and various other foodie things. We mainly go there for a chamomile tea and my friend always gets the hot chocolate mello...(hot chocolate with marshmallows). What can I say, Im hooked on the place !! read more

There are quite a few good points about Café Moda. The coffee is genuinely good, and it's not overpriced. The food isn't magnificent, but there is nothing bad about it either. Also, for the most part, the staff are friendly and polite, and service is quick. There are four different seating areas- the entry level (a little clattery and dark), the floor below (where events like tarot readings are held), upstairs with the comfy seats (my favourite!), and the smoking area out the back ( which attracts the local nutters). It stays open late, and sells wine at night, so can also be a good 'pub' alternative. Overall, it has a lot more character than a standard coffee shop, and stands out for that reason most of all. The negative points aren't huge, but they annoy me personally, which is why I knocked a point off here. The ventilation isn't great, so sometimes the whole top level reeks of fried food (gives me a headache!). Ladies toilets could use a bit more attention. If it's raining, you can't really use the smoking area because the roof bit of it rattles in the wind and chucks water over you. Which is horrible! I think this is a bit like a café equivalent to a local pub- it feels 'lived in' and unpretentious, and is usually a comforting, if not totally awesome experience. Enjoy! read more

They have quite an extensive drinks menu that offers the likes of steamers to Irish coffee and cakes of all types.
