2023 If you are in need of a lattice or cover pergola, don't hesitate to call DCI (Dawson Construction Inc). Eric and Tina are both great to work with. Tina does the administrative work and Eric does the quoting and physical work with his employees. I called Tina and asked a lot of questions and she was able to answer them all. They are as transparent as can be and I love a straight shooter. We wanted 2 pergolas. One attached lattice cover to add some shade to our home and the other a covered pergola over the bbq area. We made an appt with Tina for Eric to come out and quote us. We discussed what we wanted, color options and boom - We placed a deposit the same day and was ready to move forward. We were asked to send them a lot map of our property which we sent via email so that Eric could start doing sketches for HOA submission as well as obtain county permits. Once I received HOA approval, we were good to schedule the work. We started with the attached lattice pergola cover. They came in March 2023 and we're done in 5 hours. Unlike other contractors, they cleaned up after themselves. We were so happy with our first pergola, we wanted the second up before summer. We placed our next deposit in April and before Memorial Day, we were able to get the covered Pergola up! Both Tina and Eric are professional and as mentioned transparent in communication and are available to answer questions. The bids are reasonable (I had 3 different quotes from various companies). They don't sugar coat anything to get the job(s). Call for a quote if you're in the market for a Alumawood cover! Get yourself quotes and compare if needed. 4 months later and everything is still standing! Can't complain :) 2 of our neighbors have called and have finished their pergolas with DCI. A few more are lined up to get quotes for work. Try to Support your local small businesses if you're in the market for this! read more

I needed to replace my patio cover that was ready to fall apart. I called DCI and was able to secure a home visit for a quote the next day. Eric arrived promptly and provided the quote after looking at my patio and listening to my request. He provided several options. I was able to schedule the work within days. The demo was a big job and the construction was completed the next day. The quality of the product is evident. The service Eric and his team provided was excellent. I am so pleased with the results! read more

The cost wasn't an issue..my main issue was we had three conversations about this 1x with your wife (Tina) and you 2x, and they did not mention the cost. Also, he seemed super annoyed. That evening, Tina messaged me several photos and videos stating not to call Erik directly and to call the office and that the patio did not cause the leaks. I kindly responded to her and said that wasn't the reason for my call, and I did call the office and left and msg. I asked her to speak to Erik and how rude and accusatory hee message was. All great things to say about DCI! Eric and Tina were wonderful to work with. Tina was the one corresponding with me via phone & email prior to the install. She was very QUICK at responding to emails, which I appreciate. Eventually Eric came out to do a quote and look at the space. He was very friendly, professional, and knowledgable. He didn't even need to come in the house. He gave me a fair price, and I scheduled the install day with Tina. Come install day (TODAY!), Eric arrived promptly at 8AM when he was scheduled. He also didn't need to come inside, but let me know he was there and started unloading the supplies to the backyard. It was not long until Danny showed up, his second crew member. Before I knew it they were almost a third done! They worked EXTREMELY quickly, efficiently, cleanly, and without disruption. Everything was so smooth, and they were gone before 12PM: 4 HOURS. 4 HOURS? Are you serious? My friends were surprised they got it done in a day, and when I told them 4 hours, they were shocked. Granted, Eric did let me know that the space we had for the install was already prepped and very accessible. That definitely made it easier & quicker. They also installed the ceiling fan I bought at Home Depot. The quality is great, and Eric ensured me if there were any issues at all to give him a call and he would take care of it. They ran the electricity from the master bedroom just above the overhang, and we also had an additional electrical plug installed for lights we will eventually hang. Thank you DCI! If you want a patio overhang, call these guys!! read more

I would like to give a shout out to Eric and his team at D.C.I Dawson Construction for installing our new patio cover. They were extremely reasonably priced & very professional. From the time Eric came to do the bid until the day of the installation, I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Eric and team. read more

Amazing customer service- We're in the process of installing a pool and needed a well constructed/new patio cover to match the new pool. The entire process was very smooth. I had to call a few times (and by a few I mean I called a significant amount, to the point I had to apologize for being one of "those" people) to finalize dimensions and schedules to make sure it coincided with the pool construction. Tina always called me back the same day, and they always arrived on time for their appointments. He would even call when he was on his way m, so I knew how quickly to expect him. At one point, he completely moved around his schedule to fit my sons soccer practice. The installation process was very smooth and we have no complaints. They had it installed in about 5 hours, and made sure everything was clean and organized when they left. Which is nice after dealing with the dusty and dirty swimming pool install. The price was also very fair. I had another company quote me, for the same patio cover, $2000.00 more then DCI. I would definitely recommend them if your looking to get a patio cover! read more

I will often intend to write reviews for services or restaurants that I like, but then one thing leads to another and I never get around to doing them. DCI was so good, however, that I had to make sure I did this immediately. We met them and some other contractors at the home show and knew right away that they were the company we were going with. They were able to give us a ballpark estimate on the spot and the on-site quote a few days later actually came in below the ballpark figure. That always feels like a win, especially when you were already happy with the original number. On the day of the install, weather was favorable and they were ready to begin work right at 8 AM just as they said they would. The crew rocked 'n rolled and were finished by lunchtime, which included the installation of the ceiling fan. They also provided customer education ("Hey, you can expect to see this") before leaving and even offered to caulk some of the cracking that we have in the stucco. And to top everything off, they left the job site cleaner than it was when they arrived. These guys are very good at what they do and the customer service was second to none, in my book. I am extremely pleased that we received exactly what we paid for, right on time, with a very personable crew. Note: I do not normally comment on other Yelpers' posts, but in response to anyone who gave this company 1 star...all I can say is that there is no question in my mind that something beyond the control of the staff must have happened. read more

We had 2 patio covers that are next to each other, with different heights, put in a few years ago. They look beautiful & are great quality. However, when they installed them, there was a gap because of the heights. We were given a few options to circumvent any issues (without any additional charge). So, after much discussion with the rep, we opted to wait a season to see how it worked for us. Well, unfortunately, a lot of rain comes through the gap. I called to have the rep come back out to install the piece that he had suggested. When he arrived, he acted annoyed to be here & clueless as to what he offered originally. He did give an option to fix but wanted to charge over $400 and discouraged doing it at all. We're very dissatisfied with the lack of desire to rectify the problem. Even though the product looks beautiful, I'll never use againor recommend this business to anyone. read more

I first talked with DCI (Dawson Construction) at the 2016 home show and talked with them about getting a patio cover. Eric came out to my house and was right on time. Eric gave us multiple options and ideas. Unfortunately due to other projects we were doing we decided to wait on the cover. Fast forward to 2017 home show and again saw DCI. Thankfully we did because I had lost the information from the previous year. Eric again came out on time and gave us the a quote. After a night of thinking about it I called him back and signed a contract. Tina at the office was always in contact with me for scheduling (had to change dates a couple times due to rain). On the day of install Eric and his crew showed up on time and we're ready to work. They even did more stuff than we originally talked about. I would highly recommend DCI to anyone I know. I've read a couple of negative reviews on here and have wonder something about them. How can you write a negative review about a company you never hired? If work was done and was not correct or they took your money and never did work I can see it. If you are strictly reviewing a company you never hired how can the review be accurate? From a paying customer that actually had them do work they are A+ in my book. Not only were they the best price the work was fantastic. Eric makes sure everything is done correctly and to a high standard. Hire them and you won't be disappointed. read more

Met them out at a home show at Cal Expo. I went to the home show specifically to look at patio covers. I talked to a ton of them. I met with DCI and really couldn't believe the quote I was given. Went home and talked to the wife and when the time was right, we had them come out to do a quote. Yep.... exactly what we wanted to pay. We signed a contract and were ready for install. We were really hoping it could be installed by my daughter's birthday, as we were having a party in the backyard. But it didn't look like that would happen. Until I get a phone call about three days before the party. "Hey, can we install your patio cover on Saturday?" I said, "Sure! But that's the day of our party. Can you be done by 2:30?" "Absolutely", they said. DCI arrived at our house at 8:00a that Saturday morning to install our patio cover. But they didn't finish by 2:30p. THEY WERE FINISHED AND GONE BY NOON!!! And we love our patio cover. Its exactly what we wanted. Great service, great communication, great product. And now a few of our friends are contacting DCI about their projects. And I'm already thinking about my next one. :) read more

Scheduled an appointment after a neighbor referred me to them. I was going to be traveling for work while my wife was home with our 3 young children so I emphasized the importance of DCI making the appt as she was going to have somebody over to help watch the kids while she showed them what we were looking to have done. Not only did they not show up but after 3 messages I still have not received a call back. I appreciate services like Yelp because great service deserves to be recognized and on the flip side rude, inconsiderate service like we experienced here should as well. read more

We were referred to DCI Patios (Dawson Construction) and before they came out, I read their Yelp reviews. I was a little concerned, (red flag 1) but thought since we were referred to them, we'd be ok. We set up a 10-10:30am appointment with Erik and he showed up at 11am. He was straight forward and gave us some good options, which made up for him being a late. Because we live in an HOA, we needed to submit a sketch of the plans before starting. They said they were very familiar with that process. A couple weeks later, I had some questions and called Erik and got his wife Tina. She said she doesn't give out his cell number. I guess they own the business together and she said she could answer my questions. We talked in great detail about our project including the plans my HOA needed. I mentioned they have some 1-star reviews on Yelp and that she should ask her past clients to write some positive reviews. She basically said they have so much business that it didn't matter. (red flag 2). About 10 days later, I called Tina to let her know we'd like to go with them and that we needed to submit plans to the HOA four days later, on Tuesday. I asked if could they provide the sketch in time for us to submit by Tuesday and she said they don't do that without receiving a plot map from the customer and a signed contract. None of this came up during our long, detailed conversation 10 days earlier. (red flag 3). I expressed that we needed to move quickly and had I known, I would have provided a plot map and signed the contract by now. I said let's go to contract and then I spent the next hour tracking down a plot map for her. She said she had a cancellation for the next day (Saturday) and Erik could come between 11-11:30am for us to sign the contract and re-measure for the plans. I was ecstatic and thanked her. Given the timing of things, I made sure we were on her calendar. She said we'll see you tomorrow 11-11:30am. Saturday 11am came and went... 11:30am came and went... (red flag 4). At 11:45am I sent her a text asking if he was still coming. She texted "I thought he had already been there." I texted "Not yet and we've been here..." Ten minutes later she sends a text saying "Don't wait around for him. Either I screwed up on my end and gave him wrong info or he's delayed for some reason. Either way go on with your day and I'll touch bases with you soon." This was frustrating because just yesterday I shared with her the importance of getting the contract signed and the plans taken care of for our HOA. I called her and I could tell something was fishy. You know the feeling when someone is not being honest with you or trying to cover for something? She went on and on about how busy they are and how Erik had 12 appointments that day. I replied, "Wow, 12 appointments in 1 day?" My Spidey senses were going off. She said "yes...but don't wait for us, enjoy your day and I'll get back to you." A couple hours later I get the following text: "He broke down, something about a blown rear end, I don't know what that means but I guess it's not good... had to be towed. No cell service where he was. Sorry for the inconvenience." Now my BS meter was a full tilt. A blown rear-end? No cell service? Would someone really have 12 appointments in one day, one of which is so far out of town that there's no cell service? And if that really happened, wouldn't you call your customer who you've spoke to on the phone many times to tell them this? I know for sure her story was false. She forgot she told me on the phone the day before that Erik was in Roseville on morning appointments. But now he's in a remote area, broken down with no cell service? I texted her a couple more times asking when they could come out to do the contract and I basically got ignored. Then she finally responded saying she as busy with family obligations. Here I am, a customer who wants to sign a contract for $8,000 with a contractor. Now, in re-reading other Yelp reviews, it's consistent with what others have experienced. They flake on an appointment, don't want to deal with it and then ignore the customer. Another red flag was Erik recommended we do the project without a city permit. He said a vast number (95% to be exact) of their clients do that. I asked Tina if that was true and she said it's more like 80%. Not sure why they encourage homeowners to do a project that's not compliant with city building codes. I'm reasonable and all about giving people chances, but I won't chase someone down. I really encourage anyone reading this to consider working with someone else. read more

I've never done a review before, but felt compelled to write one for Eric and Tina because they were that good. I got 5 quotes for my patio cover and Eric's was the most competitive. It almost made me nervous that the price was "too good to be true", but that was definitely not the case. The quality of the installation and material was excellent. Eric and his crew completed the job in just a little over two days. They always arrived on time, cleaned up each day, and the place was spotless when they finished. Everything was done exactly as quoted, and we couldn't be happier with the result. Eric gave some great advice during the quoting process and he and Tina were always responsive to every text, email, or phone call. Eric even helped arrange to have my old cover removed by someone he knew, and they also did a great job. I definitely recommend anyone looking for a cover to call Eric, and would use him again without even calling anyone else. read more

NEVER FOLLOWED UP! My husband and I were looking for a company to build a backyard patio cover for our home and talked to several companies at a fall home show. They called us later to come out and do an estimate and we agreed because the employees seemed very knowledgable and one of the people we spoke to was part owner of the company. The next week a different employee came to our house whom also seemed very professional and we discussed the project. He gave us a high level quote and told us he would send us a packet in the mail detailing further information and a more accurate quote. We told him we were very interested and would be ready to do the project at the end of the next month. A week and half later we still had not received the packet in the mail so we called the company. The woman who answered the phone said she could not find our information in the computer nor could she find any record of someone coming to our house. She apologized and said she would check in to it and give my husband a call back. Well, that was almost two weeks ago and still no return phone call. Unfortunately, for them this was going to be a very expensive project and they were offering a unique design feature that we were very interested in and willing to pay for. I'm not sure the quality of their patio covers, but if their lack of customer response and organization is any indication, you probably should consider taking your business elsewhere. read more

Nothing but great things to say about these guys... 2 years ago, they were supposed to install our patio cover and when the tornado hit the back yard (long funny story...), one of the employees actually stored our materials in their garage until the house repairs were completed. They even took care of the manufacturer's bill without receiving a single penny extra from us even though we offered to pay for it due to our delay.... Fast forward to last week and we had the GFI start tripping. They came out within 2 days and replaced the recepticle, sealed anything they thought was a problem. Unfortunately it didn't take care of the problem, so guess what... They came out on a Saturday with a brand new fan and started troubleshooting the fans that we bought for them to install. It ended up being a wire that started to wiggle lose. He waited at our house for 30 minutes to make sure that it didn't trip again. A+ quality. A+ service. Can't ask anything more. read more

Met DCI while at a home show where we were looking for someone to replace our worn out patio cover. One thing we very much liked was the lack of pushy sales that so many others have. We called a few days later and schedule an appt to have an estimate done and they were very friendly on the phone. Equally, they were very punctual for the appointment time and extremely knowledgeable. It didn't take long to walk through what we wanted and took only a few more minutes to come up with an estimate. Along with the proposed design, they offered to do whatever electrical we needed done at no extra charge. Whether this was built into the estimate or not really didn't matter as the quote was quite competitive either way! A week or so ahead of time, we received a call from them indicating that the manufacturer was running a bit behind and would we mind having the demolition of our existing structure a few days early with construction to begin a few days later. Not a problem for us, so a 2-man crew came out and within a few short hours, had our old rotting wood structure down, loaded in a truck and gone. Very clean, very polite and a pleasure to deal with... On construction day, a different two-man crew arrived right on time and set up shop in the back yard. Very efficient, very polite and clearly experienced. Within 5 hours, the first of our two covers was up and the following day, the second free-standing structure was also up and all of the electrical was done with coach lights and fans properly hung and quite functional. If I was to criticize for anything, it would be minor. Because we have a solid top, it must be slanted for drainage. If we had truly understood ahead of time, we would have slanted the free-standing structure towards the primary seating area instead of running the beams parallel to the primary structure. A little picky, but the way it is set up, one can really see the slope and it just looks crooked. Over-all, they did an excellent job. Very thorough and great attention to detail. All of the work was on time, as promised and very good quality. Its now been close to a month and we couldn't be happier with the work - only wish we would have done this years ago! read more

DCI did a great job and had by far the best price for my patio cover. Also very professional an trustworthy.

We were looking for a company which can give us quality which we expected at reasonable prices for our backyard patio cover. Through on-line research I came across their web page and made the first call. Thanks God for making me make that call.. The staff was very professional, courteous and prompt. These guys gave me the lowest project cost (i called 8 other contractors before them) and gave me options to chose from. The work was completed in less than a day - and when they left they cleaned the whole area also. DCI is the company i will be calling again and again for all our future remodeling needs as well. The patio looks amazing, no sign of stress and what can you ask for, lowest prices, highest quality and under time!! read more
