As the crow flies, Recovery's yard is about a half mile from my home where my car was scheduled to be picked up to take to the shop. My experience with dispatch was pleasant enough. As I was at work at the time and not with the car was to be picked up, I explained to the dispatcher the car was in a parking lot behind the building of the given street address. He said his driver, Curtis, would call to get the details. Curtis called me to let me know he was en route to the vehicle's location. I explained to him the location of the car and offered to text a screenshot from google maps, showing the street names and labeling the location of the parking lot entrance and vehicle's exact location. I sent that screenshot and reiterated exactly where the car was and how to get there. What followed much later, well after I thought the car would have been picked up, were several calls from Curtis saying he couldn't find the car/the car wasn't there/he can't read maps/he doesn't do tow jobs in D.C./he can't find the key/he can't open the armrest where the key is/the car won't start. Ultimately, the car and key were exactly where I said they were and the car started without trouble. I don't understand why Recovery 1, a firm that boasts all over its website about how it serves D.C. specifically, would send a driver who tells customers he doesn't do tow jobs in D.C. Moreover, I don't know why they'd send a driver who can't read a map and also can't relay a cross street location to me over the phone to try to direct them to where the car is located. Again, Recovery's yard is less than a 10 minute walk from where the car was being picked up. It was extra concerning that he needed directions how to push a button to open an armrest compartment and that he had to put the key fob into the ignition to start the vehicle. Finally, with all the problems D.C. has with car thefts and carjackings, the last thing your driver should be telling your customer is they're at the location of the car and it's not there. Aside from not dropping the car off the back of the truck, Recovery 1 failed to meet the most basic expectations for professional service I had.

I had a pesky leak on my left front tire that only got worse the more I prolonged it. At first I…read morewas able to put air in the tire and it would last for around 3-4 days but now it was only good for hours before my tire would go flat. To make matters worse all four of these tires are basically new and less than 30 days old! Anyway, this whole thing was driving me nuts, so I started shopping around for a place. I remembered this local place that allowed you to drive up for on-the-spot repair and they work on your tire(s) while you wait in your car, so I decided to give them a try and I'm really glad I did. When I arrived there were a couple of cars ahead of me, which wasn't a big deal since this place is similar to a drive-thru you allowing you to conveniently wait your turn in your car. They work pretty quickly here and before I knew it I'm pulling forward to get my tire looked at. The mechanic was friendly, respectful, and took the time to listen to what was going on with my tire. He quickly got the tire off, diagnosed the problem, and explained what needed to be done in plain language. The problem was with the valve stem, which had a leak. The mechanic got right to work making the repair and explaining to me what he was doing. The work was done efficiently and correctly, and he made sure everything was explained to my satisfaction. There was no pressure, no upselling, and no runaround; just honest work and solid service. Oh, and the cost of this repair was less than 25 bucks! I couldn't believe I received this much service and such great work at this price point. What makes this place stand out to me is the customer service from all of the staff, but in particular the mechanics themselves that are actually working on your car. Usually, the people working on your car are hidden in a garage somewhere while you wait in a waiting room, so you never actually meet the mechanic working on your car. At Mac's you are up close and personal to the mechanic. That's a huge plus in my book. You can tell this is a local business that actually cares about its reputation and all of the customers coming there. It's the kind of shop where they remember you, talk to you with respect, and make sure you leave satisfied. If you're tired of chain shops and want to support a local business that does quality work and treats customers right, this is the place to go. They earned my trust, and I'll definitely be back for future tire and service needs. Highly recommended!

This longtime independent black-owned business is a real asset to DC, and they make everyone feel welcome. Mac's even promptly provide personal online responses to quote requests. No upsell, no gimmicks, just friendly professional service with unheard-of 24/7 hours. Cash or debit card recommended to avoid a reasonable credit card surcharge. Great value, with tires plugged in 15 minutes or so (once your vehicle is "up") for under $30. Keep up the great work!

My car recently broke down in middle of DC and thank god for insurance I was able to get a tow out…read moreof DC into Maryland. I called Nationwide Insurance which then connected me to WTF Towing. After 2 hours I received a call from their dispatch informing me that they have a time for my pick up. This would be a really long wait if I wasn't already in my office when the car decided to break down. Waiting 2 hours in the office is really different than waiting 2 hours outside in the cold. Closer to my pick up time , the driver called and mentioned he's running late due to rush hour. When he finally arrived an hour after the call , the driver hooked up my car pretty fast and we were out of street and on our way to MD within 15 minutes. Here's where I think they can improve their service. The driver had asked to follow us (a friend gave me a ride) to MD since he doesn't know the way. Which is really weird , who doesn't have a GPS nowadays ? Especially someone who makes a living driving from one place to another. The driver was rather reckless on the road , I saw him cutting cars off while we were on the way and also ran over a red lights. I guess if you are driving a giant flatbed tow truck you can do whatever you want ? We finally lost the tow truck driver since he was speeding and passing cars way faster than us ( apparently he decided to stop following us ) . Two days after the towing , the tow truck driver called me at 9PM ( yes , they apparently call people at night ) asking for a reference number to my case which I informed him it was my phone number. He ended calling me back a few times stating that it wasn't right . I got annoyed and stop answering the phone calls since I was trying to have dinner. It's just not professional to call a customer at 9 PM especially for something that can wait till tomorrow.

First of all, let me just ask: Why is it so difficult to find a good mechanic?…read more I've been to Auto Tech before and loved their personalized service, but since then I've moved to Baltimore. I tried another mechanic for my Honda Civic, but it just wasn't the service I wanted or expected. So, fast forward to an issue with my window. Long story short, I had it replaced by a certain well-known company, and three months later it wouldn't roll all the way up. They came back out to honor the lifetime warranty only to tell me it was the regulator. IMO they/he was responsible for breaking the regulator, as there was no problem with the window until it was replaced. There was definitely a nexus. But I digress. Instead of having to search for another mechanic in Baltimore, I just returned to what I already knew was good--Auto Tech. Todd and family are very personable and make you feel like you're at home. They're not trying to cheat you out of your hard-earned money by making up things that need to be repaired. If there's an issue, they'll lay out your options and let you choose which route you'd like to take. Again, I'm in Baltimore. But that's not a problem, as their waiting area is superb. You'll find the Wi-Fi code right there where you can see it. At one point Todd came out and said I could change the channel if I wanted to. They've got a nice coffee machine, snacks, and leather chairs that are as comfortable as the ones I have at home. My AC was also running warm so they checked that and topped it off. I also had them check my brakes. And they quickly repaired my window. The price was very reasonable. So, I'll just have to keep coming back to Bowie to have my Honda Civic serviced. No problem.

**Warning: Avoid This Towing Company at All Costs**…read more This company is one of the most unprofessional and unethical businesses I have ever encountered. My car was towed from a store parking lot, and the phone number listed on their sign didn't even work. I had to track down the correct number through a nearby store employee. When I finally reached someone around 8 PM, the woman who answered was shockingly rude and dismissive. She told me the company was "closed" -- which is highly unusual for a towing service -- clearly an intentional tactic to make things as difficult as possible. The next morning, when I called again for the address, the same woman was even nastier. Upon arrival, I found their "office" in a sketchy, hard-to-locate building in a run-down area. Inside were two women with appalling attitudes and zero professionalism. They told me their credit card machine "wasn't working" and demanded $250 in cash -- something never mentioned over the phone. When I said I didn't have that amount in cash, they pushed me to send money via Zelle, which felt completely untrustworthy. After I paid, they suddenly claimed the correct fee was $215 and began arguing among themselves about how to issue a refund. When I asked for the refund so I could leave, one of the employees -- Elizabeth Warner -- verbally insulted me using a racial slur. A male colleague arrived and gave me $35 in cash from his wallet. This entire operation is unprofessional and hostile. Their staff is rude beyond belief, their payment practices are shady, and their behavior toward customers is completely unacceptable. Avoid this disgusting company at all costs.
