Tips:
- You can text with the front desk at any time. Staff are exceptionally responsive to your needs and concerns.
- During the summer, from 2 pm till 9 pm, you can enjoy free slushies in the lobby.
My rating is 4.5 stars. I'll round up.
Hotel prices are ridiculous in Winnipeg. Even as a long-time Marriott Bonvoy member, I couldn't get a break. It has been the case for a good couple of years at least.
I did something different. I stayed in Steinbach. I had never been. It was the best decision that I made staying at this Days Inn. I didn't mind a drive into Winnipeg.
I stayed here for nine nights. I started off as a new Blue Wyndham rewards member. I left being Gold. It only takes five nights with a Wyndham hotel to make this jump. I can now do a late checkout (it would have cost me $20 as a Blue member) along with other perks.
I never had a problem finding a parking spot. There are many. The lot is shared with Chuck's Roadhouse across from it. You can certainly smell the farmland, depending on which way the wind blows.
If you have an electric vehicle, there is a single charging station for you. I only saw one electric car use it during my entire stay.
Checking in was smooth. It was likely because a lot of the heavy lifting was done beforehand. Pre-checking consists of taking a photo of your driver's licence and entering your credit card information on a secure Wyndham site. You don't need to do the photo check at the hotel. You do need to swipe your credit card, though.
I had the nicest man at the front desk. He was patient with my being distracted by a slushie machine at the counter. Free slushies from 2 pm till 11 pm every day?! Yes, please!
He let me know that slushies run during the summertime. I already knew that I loved this place. I had a slushie every night.
It was weird that my credit card wouldn't work with their machine. I used another one that worked fine. I got my room cards. I ended up on the third floor, which is the top floor.
I got a welcome text from the front desk. It was nice. I used the texting service twice during my stay. My first question was whether it had a laundry room. It did! It's on the first floor, roughly three floors from my room.
When I walked into my room, I was welcomed by a rubber duck on my nightstand. So cute!
One morning, at 8 am, the TV in my room decided to power itself on. So weird. Was it possessed?!
I got a network error. The wifi connection was fine. I texted the front desk for assistance. I was heading out anyway and a male staffer chatted with me about the issue downstairs and had also texted me.
I also had a concern about the shower gel and conditioner running out in the shower. Housecleaning seemed to have forgotten to refill them for a while. This man took care of that concern, too. He was amazing!
Housecleaning cleaned the bathroom and change my bedding every three days. I appreciated it. I'm not a slob and don't need that sort of cleaning every day. I just wished that this group looked at the shower gel. I clearly didn't go through all of it and the conditioner. It hadn't been topped up for a good month, I'd reckon.
They were great changing my towels daily. I appreciated that, although I could have gone every few days with a change there, too.
I woke up at 8 or 9 am, and stayed in my room watching TV or uploading photos to Yelp till 11 am or noon. Housekeeping still came once I was out of my room.
One morning, the elevator wasn't working. I took the stairs down. It was all carpeted, which made me think how crazy cleaning it would be in the winter. It was fluffy when I walked down.
My room was comfortable. It had two queen beds. One was left alone. I slept in the other.
The air conditioning was extremely effective during the heatwave. No complains.
My room had a fridge and a microwave. I liked having cold drinks and heating up ramen when I needed a snack.
The bathroom was clean. The shower had good water pressure. It was spacious. No issues with anything other than the lack of shower gel. I did like that it had Dove products.
There was free breakfast downstairs from 6 am till 10 am every day. It had hot foods, such as scrambled eggs and ham. I liked that there was fresh fruit. You could make your own waffles. There was also bread, muffins, bagels, cereal, yogurt, and more. It was decent.
Recycling is interesting. You can only recycle beverage containers here.
This hotel was nicely maintained and pretty quiet, except for kids who will also enjoy running down long hallways. I don't get it. I never did that as a kid.
Checkout was equally as smooth. You did all that online. You could also tip specific groups, such as the front desk or housekeeping. I ended up splitting my tip between the two.
I am going through slushie withdrawal symptoms and am contemplating getting my own slushie machine. I had a great stay at this hotel and getting to know Steinbach. I had the best vacation thanks to being rested and happy here.
