OMG, the geek in us really loved the Canadian mint. My girlfriend and I had plenty of questions on the tour which took about 45 minutes. No photos allowed on the tour. Our tour guide gave a really comprehensive tour. We had one expert on coins who gave our guide a hard time but she took it well. At the end of the tour, you can lift up a bar of gold next to the guard for a photo. Also, there is a striking machine that takes blanks and stamps a design. For $3, this is the cheapest souvenir compared against the gift shop. Plus, you can watch as your coin is being made over a couple of seconds top.

We enjoyed our foray to the mint, even if we were embarrassed by the loud, overbearing and not very smart country-men that were a part of the tour (Why would the Queen of England need to be on your currency, that doesn't make any sense!) A lot of the other folks on our tour talked over the guide and were generally boorish, so I'd say try not to go at a peak time. Our guide was fun and informative, but we had another tour end up near us and that guide was even better, so I guess it's all hit or miss. It's not an all day thing, but I learned a bit, got to see some cool coins and life a gold bar, so I think it was worth it.

Couldn't resist the opportunity to stop here. The grounds and the building are outstanding and beautiful. The big lake out front has a huge fountain in the middle and the grounds are covered with hundreds of Canada Geese. This is a must stop when visiting Winnipeg.

The gift shop is also worth a stop -- lots of unique collector's coins, souvenirs, and fun items to browse.

Booked a trip for this summer with them to see the beluga whales, independent traveller, just for…read morethe buggy tour (thank GOD). If you know anything about Churchill, you can't drive there. You either fly via a very expensive difficult to book small plane flight, travel by rail via a very long overnight train or visit if you are on one of the rare cruises that go that way. Well, I opted for the train as I wanted a longer stay than any of their packages. (Yes, Frontier North sells complete travel packages.) Well, VIA rail ends up cancelling all train travel for most all of the summer between Winnipeg and Churchill due to issues with the track (starting the month before my train was scheduled to depart). Every other vendor I booked with (hotel, boat tours, private truck tour etc), despite having no refund policies, due to the extenuating circumstances, gave refunds. However, not Frontiers North. Eric Chartier was in fact, a real *%$#@! about the whole situation. He basically said that I should find some other way to get there (knowing there weren't other options) or find a way to catch the 1 train they were running on 1 day for part of the route, that would not work with my scheduled vacation time, refused to even compromise and offer 1/2 of a refund or a credit for next year (as there would be no more trains except for that one random day for the entire rest of the beluga season that year). The only concession he would make was that I could use the credit later in the summer...when there was still no train available and he knew it. I would advise you go with other vendors who were very understanding of the unexpected situation and did work with me (ie pretty much any other company except for Frontiers North). Joke's on Frontiers North though. I happen to work for a very large company and had a large group interested in going to Churchill in the next year, pending my report back. Now, NONE of them will do business with Frontier's North. Being a douche to keep the cost of one tundra buggy ride, they lost over $30,000 in packages next year. (laugh) My advice: Do business with ANYONE else but Frontiers North.

Beware additional charges and their waiver…read more We were just in Churchill on a polar bear trip conducted on behalf of a conservation group by Frontiers North. After paying the trip charge of over $16,000, assuming that was the total cost, we were advised of the following: Important Travel Insurance Information Traveling to Canada's North is unique and requires preparation. Frontiers North Adventures requires all guests to provide proof of trip cancellation, interruption, and/or emergency medical insurance by the final payment date. Here's a brief overview of the essential coverage: Trip Cancellation Insurance: Reimburses 100% of your trip cost if you need to cancel for a covered reason (e.g., unforeseen illness, injury, or death). Trip Interruption Insurance: Covers unused trip costs if you need to interrupt your trip for a covered reason, including additional transportation expenses to return home. Emergency Medical Insurance: Covers treatment costs for an unexpected illness or injury during your trip. Emergency Evacuation Coverage: Provides assistance and covers emergency transportation costs to the nearest medical facility. Our preferred travel insurance provider is Redpoint Travel Insurance. For comprehensive coverage, contact Redpoint at +1-415-481-0600 or purchase online here. The cost of the additional insurance from their "preferred provider" was $2658.00, and was not disclosed at the time of our joining the trip. We have travelled widely to more remote locations at greater risk and have never been required to purchase Trip cancellation insurance: why would a vendor care if we are comfortable accepting the risk? Further, see the following re their preferred provider: https://www.bbb.org/us/tx/austin/profile/travel-insurance/redpoint-resolutions-llc-0825-1000200589/customer-reviews On top of that, the company required a signed waiver including this language: This Waiver is binding on the Guest and the Guest's family members, attorneys, agents, executors, trustees, representatives and assigns. I hereby indemnify and save harmless the Tour Provider of and from any Claims against the Tour Provider by the Guest, the Guest's family or any member thereof, the Guest's employer or by any other person for whom or to whom I am or the Guest is or may be responsible, whether at law or otherwise. The term "Tour Provider" includes all companies and persons affiliated with Frontiers North Adventures, including, but not limited to, 5878820 Manitoba Ltd., 5836264 Manitoba Ltd. o/a Tundra Inn, Frontiers North Inc., FNI Holdings Corp., and their respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, insurers, agents, representatives, sellers, resellers, local operators, and all of their respective heirs, successors, assigns and personal representatives. Basically Frontiers North is happy to take your money and accepts zero responsibility for the health and safety of you or your family members, even from acts of negligence on their behalf. When they were asked about this, their employee Haley Magwood emailed the following: "The intent behind paragraph 5 is to ensure that Frontiers North, as well as its employees and representatives, are held harmless. In essence, it is meant to protect against liability in extreme cases, and this paragraph would prevent the guest's family from seeking damages from Frontiers North or any of its representatives." While on one of their tundra buggies another guest asked about the vehicle's safety, and the Frontiers North employee answered "You all signed the waiver. Ha Ha!". There are multiple other vendors who can show you polar bears in the Churchill area. We would suggest you go to one that actually stands behind their services and cares about your welfare.
