With the wrong lighting balance, you can see right into the (clean, modern, and otherwise lovely) bathrooms.

Mere is a modern and new hotel with spacious rooms for its price point. It has a nice central location to the downtown area and is also right next to the river so some rooms have that view. The rooms are clean and fresh and I think you get more than what you pay for overall - I would definitely stay here again. That being said, the hotel is missing a few things that I am sure will be worked out as time goes on and they get through a little bit of the new hotel growing pains. The first issue (that really wasn't that big of a deal but was just a little frustrating) was that our refrigerator didn't work. It was just a box to put food in but didn't keep things cold (yes, it was plugged in). On this note, however, it must be added that they provided complementary water, juice, cliff bars and espresso in the room, so amenities that most other hotels would charge for they give out at no charge which is very refreshing. Also, I am not sure if our room was just missing it, but we found no card for privacy to hang on the door so housekeeping nearly walked in on us. It was fine - we just told them that we didn't need anything, but a card for privacy would be nice. The primary issue I suppose (which again is not that big of a deal just kind of weird) is that the bathrooms are basically see-through unless you have figured out the perfect combination of lighting in the room. The room had a nice modern floor-to-ceiling glass panel that separated the sleeping area from the bathroom that included a pull down screen, but the screen was translucent if the lighting combination in the suite wasn't exact. So if you have the desk light on or the bathroom light off or the entryway off and the bedside light on or whatever combination, you would have to get it just right in order to not see into the bathroom. This isn't that big of a deal for my husband and I but it might be kind of weird with a business partner or children or something. Again, it's not that big of a deal and with the right lighting combination you can almost not see through, but it was kind of a weird thing to navigate. The room had great modern and spacious built-ins in the entryway area for hanging and storing clothes and nice mood lighting throughout the room and in more areas than other hotels at this price point. Staff were courteous and helpful. Overall this is probably the cleanest hotel I can recall staying in so that is a major plus. I would definitely recommend Mere to any friend or family member.

Some of the lovely bathroom toiletries.

Too bad I'm only here for one night, because the Mere Hotel Winnipeg is absolutely fantastic. If you ever find yourself in this city, this is the place to stay. The rates are good and definitely worth it for what you see and get. The guest services staff are helpful and friendly. Check in was a breeze. I got a room on the first floor but it was still very quiet and spacious. Just draw the curtains or you will see a lot of people walking and biking by. The rooms are beautiful and modern. Feels brand new. Molten Brown toiletries, soft bathrobes and a super comfy king size pillow top with stark white sheets. I really love the feeling of how minimalist the design is but still very warm feeling. Great location within walking distance of the Theatre and Museum districts and next to the waterfront. I took a scenic stroll along the river, just watch out for Mosquitos!

For the room, there is a mini-fridge and glad that water, juice, and CLIF bars are complimentary.

Bonus points that you can reach the next door Elephant and Castle pub without going back outside. Lobby Starbucks had an actual barista but not breakfast food. Lobby restaurant opens for weekday breakfast from 7-11am and serves pretty good food. Rooms are ok but lack extra amenities. Bed and pillows are comfortable so that alone was almost worth 4 stars. Wifi works well. But closet is tiny. There's no safe. Toilet paper is sandpaper. Toilet itself had flushing issues. Gym is tiny without many machines. Smells of chlorine from the pool next door. People were nice. Would I stay here again? Yes Do I wish it was a little nicer? Also yes

Parking is simple, all the way down on the basement on the "green" level - nice thing about parking down there is the car is warm in the morning! Property is clean & quiet even when it's sold out on game day! Room is functional w a tub/shower (not my fav) combo in the small bathroom. Towels are decent and water for shower is hot! I appreciate the electric tea kettle in the room. Club on 12th floor is solid - I like there is attendant there for breakfast. Breakfast is decent: pancakes, croissant, scrambled eggs, sausage links. During the day that are soft drinks, chips and cookies. Again always very clean. Friendly service all around & and Elephant and Castle in the same building. I am a fan!!

The staff is amazing, always asking if we need anything and always smiling and they are always busy doing something. I have yet to see them standing around just chatting or leaning on a counter looking bored. I would hire these people any day. The free breakfast is good. Everything is hot that should be and tastes pretty good as well. The location is close to the forks and the Skywalk and under ground shopping. When we came back last night security was walking the parking lot. I'm not sure if it was to make sure no one parked without a ticket in their window or for our safety but either way we were able to get a spot and felt safe going into the hotel. And as always the security was smiling and asked us how our evening was. We will stay here next time we are in Winnipeg.

So she gave me a new key card it still didn't work. Then she calls someone else to try another card and discovers the battery in the door is low. I finally get into my room after several tries. After this incident things got much better. Starting on Sunday, the staff were much more pleasant and helpful. The housekeeper was very kind. The room and bathroom were clean and large enough to function in although the chairs need some deep cleaning. The breakfast area was spacious. Breakfast was basic but had enough variety to pick from nothing outstanding to me. It was just ok
