Y'all ain't even ready to hear what I had for breakfast this morning: an eggs benny sandwich with…read moreHollandaise dipping sauce and a shredded potato pancake. YEAH. I said it. It's your standard Eggs Benny sandwiched between two thick slices of homemade bread (your choice of white, whole wheat or multigrain - no less!) and a bowl of some of the tastiest Hollandaise I've found in the past few months. All tucked away in an unassuming, down-home diner in Port Williams - a quick drive from downtown Wolfville! More people need to know about this! Four tables covered in business cards of diners-gone-by are set up in a space about the size of a loading elevator surrounded by antiques and collectibles of all kinds including a very important sign: 'Patience required as good food takes time to prepare.' Why so important? Well, there's only one person cooking back there. ONE. If she doesn't make it, you're not eating it. It makes for consistently hearty and satisfying meals, but it does increase your wait time. Portions are HUGE (actually, the burgers border on obscene...), everything is made fresh on site, and the prices are more than affordable considering what you get! And on that note, hit up an ATM at the corner store next door since it's all cash only!

Even when it was only half full we overhead the waitress welcoming new customers with "We will get to you as soon as we can". The waits weren't long, and the food was great! I rediscovered the origins of hash browns in their culturally authentic Acadian grated potato pancakes - the size of a Frisbee. Crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Lots of potato flavour! The middle sized breakfast was huge - eggs, bacon, home fries and great homemade bread. Annnd - one can substitute the potato pancakes for home fries!!!! Unfortunately it can't get a 5 star because they were seen reusing the homemade jam from the individual servings - scrape the top, smooth it out and add more to the top. As much as I encourage good economics of not throwing out tons of jam - this isn't a great practise:-( So, I leave it to your judgement - food great, space small, cash only and great prices. I hope they survive and thrive in Port Williams.

There's a lot to be said for having a good lunch spot within walking distance of your home, so when…read moremy wife and I moved into the Sullivan's Pond area, we quickly took advantage of Souper Duper's proximity to us. The buffalo chicken soup was one of their daily specials, with a mix of cheesy creaminess and heat that contrasted well. A side of mac and cheese topped with Doritos (they have eight topping options!) was an indulgent addition to my meal, and that ooey-gooey cheese helped tame the spice of the soup. The noodles were supple and tender, and not at all mushy from sitting around in a warming tray all day like some spots. Conveniently, they also have a bunch of frozen soups to take home and keep for a rainy (re. too-lazy-to-cook) day. My wife and have tried several, including chicken and tomato bisque, potato and corn chowder, donair (!) and cream of mushroom, and the flavours are always fantastic! Souper Douper is doing the "simple" things right, and they bring a lot to their customers and community, one bowl of soup at a time.

I had the half Ruben on rye with the tomato basil soup, I found the soup a bit salty but maybe its me because i dont use salt on anything. My youngest daughter had the corn chowder and the BLT, and enjoyed it very much. My other had the Beef and Barley and devoured every spoonful. I sampled all the soups and found filling and so tasty. I will be a regular for sure.!!! Thanks for a wonderful lunch souper duper!!!!

One of the things I appreciate about this place is their attention to cooking with healthy ingredients and supporting local by sourcing their food from nearby providers. The place in what looks to be an old home, and has place for outdoor seating as well as inside. There probably is about 10 places to sit, from tables of two, three or four. You can also walk to the counter, and order a drink and a meal to go. We chose to sit down this afternoon, and had some great sandwiches. If you are choosing to do breakfast, breakfast ends at 10 am. I was impressed by one of the servers as a child came into hoping to have pancakes, and while breakfast was no longer being served, the server went to check to see if they could make some pancakes for the child. Unfortunately they didn't have pancakes on the menu, but for the server to check to see if there was a possibility the kitchen could make some pancakes was great - I love seeing that type of posture in the service industry. This place is great, known for its food and for all of the frogs in its decor - you need to ask about the frogs! Come check out the place and decide for yourself - just remember they are only open from morning till 3pm.
