There's not a tremendous amount to see or do in the shop but that's okay since you're much better off just taste-testing some delicious cheeses, or chowing down on a sweet and crispy waffle cone. Still, there is a little window you can peek through to see some of the machines put to use behind the scenes. And the cheeses? Well, take it from me, someone who manages to maintain 80% of his body weight through cheese and cheese alone, are fantastic...and abundant: tons of spiced and smoked goudas (Italian herb, herb and garlic, jalapeno, cumin), fresh curds for homemade poutine (danger...), and even fetas and little known German styles that can act as a substitute for cream cheese! Lactose-intolerants beware. This is probably not the place for you.

We opted to sit outside where there is a very large but weird set up of multiple mismatched gazebos along the side and another patio out back where staff smokes in the open right next to propane tanks. Quite a shocker to see and pretty gross while you're eating to being with. The patio was full of dry leaves and didn't look like anyone was interested in sweeping them up. That part aside, the service was good but we were the only ones there during a busy summer touristy day (4 PM) so that would be the bare minimum we'd expect. Server made a mistake but apologized so it wasn't a big deal. The pizzas need work. The taste is really good but the crust was either too thin or just not cooked long enough. Besides the raised sides, both pizzas were completely soggy; we had to roll them into tight little taquitos to eat them. There was no other way, not even with cutlery. It's really too bad because the ingredients are good quality and these could be really nice pizzas with the flavour. If we had to choose again, we'd probably just go to Lightfoot & Wolfville for the same price but a fail-proof pizza. Payment machine doesn't work outside so be prepared to go up to the counter to pay. We'll give this place one more shot because it has potential but the lack of patrons at such a busy time makes us wonder if this is just how it is.

Daughter got a chicken wrap, which she enjoyed as well. This was a special spot for my husband and I - he is deceased and we toasted to his honor. **Disappointing visit, and the service made it worse**…read more We visited Bent Ridge on Father's Day hoping for a relaxed family afternoon, and left genuinely frustrated, mostly because of how we were treated. We ordered the Grilled Watermelon Salad ($21.50). The menu describes it as grilled watermelon, fresh berries, red onion and mint on a bed of arugula. What arrived was essentially a bowl of arugula and spinach with red onion and a sprinkle of feta, and almost no watermelon to speak of. When we politely pointed this out, the second server who took the salad back was lovely about it and said she'd check with the kitchen. That's where it went downhill. She returned with the primary server, who was dismissive from the start. We were told they could add watermelon on the side, but only as an upcharge. We declined. We were then told we'd be charged for the original salad regardless. Fine, we said, charge us, but we don't need it back. Despite that, the salad reappeared at the table with a tiny cup of watermelon, and the response was a flat "well, it's already here." When we asked whether this is really what a watermelon salad is meant to be, since we've had this dish at plenty of other restaurants and it has never been arugula with a few cubes of watermelon hidden in it, the answer was that the watermelon is "just like the berries, a little topping." At that point we cleared our own plates onto the side table for them to collect. What needs to be said plainly is this: we were a group of 12 with a bill of around $700. Paying was never the issue, and a $21 salad is no big deal. But the audacity of the server to assume we were doing all this just to haggle a salad out of them was ridiculous. We can't tell a kitchen how to build their salad, and tastes vary. But the watermelon is named first in the dish, it arrived in nowhere near the quantity advertised, and being upsold to get the main ingredient is hard to defend. Speaking to paying customers that way is simply not acceptable. And of course, she did remember to add the 18% gratuity for her tremendous service. To top it off, we'd brought a cake to celebrate Father's Day and asked if we could cut it. We were told no outside food allowed, full stop. The Annapolis Valley has no shortage of excellent wineries where a family can actually feel welcome and enjoy the afternoon. We won't be returning to this one.

Across the valley from the Martock ski hills, it's a small winery/brewery, which also caters for all manner of events, including weddings. We visited on a mostly sunny, warmish August Friday at the start of the Labour Day weekend. Essentially it's a restaurant and a very pleasant one at that. There is a smallish bar/galley area inside, with a covered, all weather and all year round solarium attached, a small patio and lawn beyond that. They offer beer/cider and wine samplers which I'd strongly recommend. I went for the four reds they produce, and thoroughly enjoyed them all, especially the 1763 Unhinged. The menu is quite extensive, and we went for a pizza each, Bent Ridge Belly for me, Fig and Onion for the wife. Both were delicious and of generous size. I tried their ginger infused rough cider, which was excellent and quite novel. I was also treated to a gratis glass of the Maple Porter. The restaurant affords pleasant views across the valley and is nicely appointed, with a variety of seating and can cater for fairly large groups. Service was a delight and the eventual bill of almost exactly $100 not onerous by today's standards. Will definitely have to visit again. And this time I'll take a growler and buy some of their craft beer.

The scallop linguini was amazing, featuring Adams & Knickle scallops, Oulton's smoked bacon, arugula, garlic, and Parmesan. The combination of fresh local scallops with the smoky bacon and greens was absolutely delicious. Love seeing local ingredients showcased this well! Their lobster roll was also one of the best we've had. Great seasoning with tarragon, mayo, celery, and greens, all tucked into a homemade roll. Simple, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The seafood linguini was basically Nova Scotia on a plate... loaded with scallops, mussels, and shrimp. We absolutely loved it... although it could have used just one more local ingredient: lobster! And then there was the linguine limone, which was another standout. Bright, fresh lemon zest with toasted pine nuts made for a fantastic pasta. By the end, there was absolutely no room for dessert which is probably a good sign of how much we enjoyed the meal! Great local ingredients, generous portions, and delicious seafood. A must-try when visiting Lunenburg.

The patio setup is absolutely gorgeous, with views of the Bluenose II and many other ships along the shoreline. The service was also very friendly. Food-wise, the portion was EXTREMELY satisfying. At $34, it's probably one of the biggest lobster rolls around, filled to the top with lobster meat (I also LOVED that they used arugula instead of lettuce). It's worth every penny. The chowder was also very nice -- piping hot and full of seafood and potatoes. The potato wedges? Yes. Big, phat wedges that were probably made from two whole potatoes, paired with a super creamy and delicious, pepper-forward aioli. Love it. A few things that could be improved with the food, though: The lobster roll could use some additional seasoning/dressing. Cold lobster rolls often need a bit more seasoning or dressing since the meat itself isn't as flavour-forward as it is in warm rolls. The chowder was great, but I usually prefer mine to be creamier and thicker. Lastly, the potato wedges could use a bit more crispiness on the exterior to elevate them to perfection -- perhaps a double fry? Overall, I think this restaurant is still worth every penny, especially considering the generous portions and how extremely fresh the food is. I really enjoyed my meal.
