I heard such great things about this winery, we just had to check it out. Fortunately I brought my friend Stacey cuz she knows a lot about wines. We timed it perfectly -- a gorgeous sunny Monday and the place wasn't too crowded. We sat on their comfortable patio watching their pride flag proudly flapping in the sunny skies. We ordered a wine flight and our server, Teniya was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about their wines and the countless attributes that go into winemaking. I enjoyed their unique selection of wines, the education and a chance to enjoy a sunny afternoon in their patio. Their prices seemed reasonable for the quality and unique blends. After hearing lots of positives about Day Wines, we finished our first day of wine tasting on their beautiful, modern patio. Located right on highway 99, when you are seated you feel like you are miles away. That's magic. We sat on the patio where there were several tables of various sizes, each with a gorgeous bouquet of ranunculus, roses and peonies, making it an Instagram worthy shot! Inside was beautiful as well. Everything thoughtfully designed with a very pleasing aesthetic; simple, modern and clean. As with many of the wineries in Willamette Valley, the servers enthusiastically share how they grow and source grapes, the soil, climate and the wine making process. It is truly an art and I enjoy hearing about the variances that create subtle, or sometimes pronounced, nuances in each wine. At Day Wines, they source all of their grapes from local farmers in Oregon. All of their wines are organic with no residual sugar which I prefer. If given a choice, I often choose big, bold reds but this is Pinot land so I opted for the flight which gets me out of my comfort zone and into trying wines that I typically would never order. I mean isn't that the point of going wine tasting? The flight had 3 variations of white, several with muscat grapes; a Pinot and a Syrah. They were unique and different not just amongst the flight, but other wines that I had tasted that day. While I really enjoyed the Babycheeks Rose, I already have way too many bottles of rose so decided to purchase the Syrah, which was the boldest of the reds. No surprise! Day Wines is a wonderful place to visit where you can sample natural wines that are very unique from others in this area. I was brought here by a good friend of Brianne over the Thanksgiving weekend. She was here to visit with for a bit. I learned all the great things they are doing here supporting up and coming winemakers, and working with unusual grape varietals. I wasn't going to have time to visit wineries on this trip, so it was with great pleasure to get this one in. Although there were a number of wines, that didn't wow me, there were a number that were just fantastic. My bottles of Babycheeks Rosé didn't last long. I was down in the cellar where I stumbled on four bottles of Vin De Days. I'm looking forward to them. Some of the single vineyard wines will spend several years in the cellar, however, they are drinking well now. So, they may not last all that long. read more

A nice place with decent wine, but their pricing seems sleezy. The tasting fee wasn't listed on their website, so my friends and I asked about it as soon as we got there: $25, nonrefundable with bottle purchases. Because it was nonrefundable, we bought a bottle and drank it there. They added a $10 corkage fee--for their own bottle to be consumed on their premises, which of course doesn't make sense. Naturally, they didn't tell us about this added nonsense fee in advance. read more

If all "natural wines" were as good as those made by Brianne Day, the rancorous debate over whether natural wines are a flawed fad or an envelope-pushing godsend for wine lovers would no longer be bubbling 'n spurting like a witch's Halloween cauldron, with diehard folks on each end of the spectrum hurling fruitless inflammatory insults. Some peeps get evangelical about natural wines (think Alice Waters on organic food), but I try not to get caught up in that. Maybe I'm simpleminded (sometimes my wife thinks so), but for me it all comes down to what's in the bottle. Are natural wines delicious? Will they make my time at the table more pleasurable? Do they reflect both the grapes used to make them and the places where/when those grapes were grown? When it comes to Day wines, the answers are all the same: "Yes!" Day Wines and Day Camp (the latter being a cooperative/incubator for several small producers) are right on the Dundee main drag. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting winemaker Brianne Day during our recent trip to the Willamette Valley, but she sounds like a whirlwind, making a name for herself in short order after several years of international & Oregon apprenticeships to learn her craft. She headed her first Pinot Noir vintage in 2012 and was named a Wine Enthusiast 40 Under 40 Tastemaker five years later. To top it all off? She's a new mom. Day sources grapes from a variety of off-site vineyards that use Earth-friendly practices for which Oregon is known. What visitors lose in estate views, they make up for experiencing Day's new tasting room, which is really quite sexy and filled with warm, welcoming red cedar & copper. Our visit was marred by rain so we couldn't enjoy the tranquil outdoor courtyard, spotted with native grasses, which is walled off from 99W by a cedar screened structure. They currently offer 2 tastings. The "Drink Now" flight fee is $15 and the "Age-worthy" flight runs $20. Fees are waived w/the purchase of 3 bottles. You can also buy wine by the glass or bottle and relax at a table if you so desire. The wine club (6 or 12 bottles, 3x/year) is tempting b/c production & distribution are limited. My first taste of Day wine occurred last year when I tried the 2016 Tears of Vulcan. (No, Spock's not crying on the label.) It was a stunning, lightly-tinted, high-strung wine, made from barrel co-fermented Viognier & Pinot Gris later combined with a small amount of stainless fermented Muscat. It's been a while, but I remember the citrus & floral aromas and how complex it was on the palate, with bright but not over-the-top acid. I was excited to nab another bottle, but alas the '16 is gone. I'm sure the '17, which I snagged, will be quite a ride, too. I love that Day's inspiration for this wine came from Sicily. For her, the key link between wines from Oregon & Sicily is volcanic soil, and so the label depicts Vulcan, the God of Volcanoes. I readily admit that I'm not a "fancy packaging person." To me, wine's like beauty; it's what's inside that counts. But, of course, we eat (and drink) with our eyes first, and so Day's labels deserve notice. Jessie G. did a fantastic job leading us through an illustrative sample of Day wines. She's enthusiastic, engaging, knowledgeable and clearly enjoys wine. And she got my wife's full attention with our first pour. It was love at first sip with Day's Mamacita Pétillant Naturel, an intentionally oxidized sparkler made from Applegate Valley AVA Vermentino and Early & Orange Muscat. It's a joy to drink, full of sweet citrus and white nectarine w/a touch of Vermentino salinity. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if some anti-natural wine snob calls this elixer "boozy kombucha" then he should be walled-off like Fortunato until he admits his error. The 2017 Vin de Days Rouge is made from Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, co-fermented with a bit of Cab Franc & Gamay. It's a delightful, easy to drink, fruit-forward blend fit to become your house red. For the 2015 Running Bare (no streakers frolicking on the label), Day co-fermented Cab Franc, Tannat & Malbec, which were grown side-by-side in the same Applegate Valley AVA vineyard. Great Oregon parallel to old world field blends, where the grower essentially determines the blend's composition. The tasting notes advise pairing this with s'mores by a bonfire; I'm in! I also tried two Day single vineyard Pinots (the spicy 2015 Cancilla & the spirited 2016 Momtazi), both of which evidenced polish and elegance. Day doesn't balk at using a bit of sulfur for stability here and so cellaring is a no-brainer. These two will surely blossom further into complexity and deliciousness in the coming years. Negatives? I didn't see a winery dog hanging around, looking for love from a constant stream of slightly buzzed strangers. Minus one star for this clear violation of the valley's "winery pup requirement." Just kiddin' witcha. Don't miss Day Wines if you're in the area. read more

This place does not grow its own grapes but sources the grapes that are from local farmers throughout the state of Oregon. Wines are organic and the place does not add residual sugar. The wines were tasty but the reason why I am giving a 4 instead of 5 is that they get grapes from the whole state instead of just from the Willamette valley area. Day Wines is new to the Dundee strip..... The building is gorgeous as is the landscaping. I would give 5 stars just for that..but this review is for the wine. This is a community winery with about 8-10 winemakers. I think the concept is cool, but the wines are not to my liking. We have been in twice now, and decided it's just meh. They have a hippyish vibe going on in the tasting room. The guy that was working the tasting room was heavily bearded and looked like he just came in from a hike, LOL! They are very friendly here explaining the concept of the wines. The tasting fee is currently only $15, but is not waved unless you buy 6 bottles! 6 bottles! Most places waive the fee at 2 bottles.... the wine ranges from $20 and up. My complaint about the wines is that most are unfiltered.They taste a bit on the alcohol side too. Not a smooth wine. If you do go and find a wine you like, better buy it then as it will probably be gone the next time. Our first visit we had a white pinot, it was gone a few months later when we stopped in again. They do have a large outdoor patio area, but there was no seating when we were there. They dd say, they hope to get a food cart out there for summer weekends. I visited Day Wines for the first time on Saturday. Due to a cancellation they were able to get us in and I'm so glad they did. Leyla was fantastic! She gave great descriptions of the wines and was fun to be around. She joked with our table and made it an enjoyable experience. The wine was fantastic as well! The blends and varietals are different than what you find in most of the willamette valley. Not your standard Pinot and Chardonnay here. Well worth visiting! On my list of wineries to visit and try some bolder red wines. When we got there they have a set tasting menu with 3 white wines and a pinot blend and a Pinot. Did not get to even try any of the Southern Oregon wines we were looking forward to. The wines we did try were good at best nothing to call home about. NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! On Mother's Day weekend our group visited Day Wines. After our tasting we gave the server our credit card to pay the bill and during the process the server dropped the Visa card on the deck and it slipped between two boards - we could see the card about 8" below on the dirt floor. We offered to grab tools from our car, lift the boards up, snag the card, replace the boards and be done in a few minutes....boy were we wrong! The server brought the manager over who then called the owner. We were then told by the manager that the owner had said "Hard No", we would not be able to retrieve our Visa card. They were not going to allow us to pull the boards up, recover our Visa card, nor were they going to. They said it was a busy weekend and they wanted us to call the owner on Tuesday to make plans to get the Visa card back. We were very concerned about leaving without this Visa card which is tied to 45 auto-pays and would be a massive hassle to cancel. We marked the spot on the deck with pencil so the could later find the card easily. We left assuming we'd get the card back on Tuesday when the owner was back at the winery. That night I emailed the owner and she replied that she would get the Visa card for me on Tuesday, but she wasn't sure she had the correct star bit to remove the boards, so early the next morning we went to Lowe's and bought several different sizes of bits so she'd have the right size, and then we dropped them off at the winery where we verified with the manager that the bits were the correct size. We then emailed the owner to let her know we had dropped the bits off, she again reassured us that she'd retrieve the Visa card and contact me on Tuesday. We didn't hear back on Tuesday so we called and the owner said she was concerned about lifting a board up because she thought it might cause warping, even just for a minute.....then she said I should just replace the card......now very FRUSTRATED and feeling like this is a very low standard of treating customers. Wednesday morning we received this email from the owner: "I understand that your businesses and how they function are important to you, and my business and how it functions is important to me. I can't do something to my property that will jeopardize my primary income source. After consulting my contractor, my banker and my lawyer, I've decided that I cannot pull up my patio to retrieve your card. My contractor looked at the patio and he believes that due to normal weathering, the boards won't be able to be put back seamlessly. My lawyer pointed out that I wouldn't be able to give your credit card to another person other than you, because of liability. My banker told me that it is normal for credit card companies to reissue cards and for online accounts to automatically update with the new information so it shouldn't be much of an issue." This is B.S. and just another Hard No" from this owner. You would think with covid-19 and all the disruption in the hospitality industry this owner would bend over backward to turn an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to create good will. This is how the frustrating story ends- massive headache cancelling so many auto-pays. We will not return, just an overall bad experience that could have been prevented in less than 5 minutes! read more

Just went to Day Wines today, right after re opening from the shutdown. The tasting room is beautiful (even on a rainy day) and very inviting. Our server was super friendly, informative, and they put up with me changing my reservation more than once, so very accommodating. The wines were unique and different, but very good!
