We've been longtime fans of Evening Land wines, and were so excited when they opened up new tasting cabins on their gorgeous property. Last week, we went for an Estate Tasting. We were welcomed with a splash of their Blanc de Noirs. A glass of bubbly is always a good way to start a tasting! Then we settled into the tasting cabin with the beautiful green woodburning fireplace, which kept us nice and cozy on this chilly PNW day. Brandon and Claire took us through six wine tastings: 3 reds and 3 whites. My husband and I both fell in love with the La Source wines: the La Source Chardonnay and the La Source Pinot Noir. But all of their wines were beautiful. The new(ish) tasting cabins make a wine tasting experience here pure PNW: warm and welcoming, cozy and comforting, and the wines are lovely expressions of the terroir here in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. I definitely recommend making a reservation for a tasting at Evening Land! The people are always a huge part of what make a wine tasting experience special, and Brandon and Claire were amazing. The wines are delicious, and the vineyard views are stunning. If you're in Portland, it's about a 45-minute to 1-hour drive to Evening Land. There is a lot of confusion here. The address for this listing is their appointment only Seven Springs Vineyard tasting-- what most people are reviewing is their walk in (and reservation but less personalized) experience at the Dundee tasting room. We did their Seven Springs Vineyard tasting today and were blown away. They only see three groups a day (one group at a time) and each one is hosted by AJ who lives on the vineyard. He lives and breathes Evening Land and is an absolute wealth of knowledge. He gave us the absolute best tasting experience we've ever experienced and we ended up not only joining the wine club but also buying multiple bottles in addition. Here's the truth about what makes Evening Land the best. While most wineries target a specific price point. For example at Beaux Freres there is nothing less than $85. At Evening Land there are amazing wines at $35 and at $100...and the $35 is a red and the $100 is a white -- it's the opposite of what you expect yet both provide great value at their respective price point. My friend and I stopped by the tasting room on our Willamette Valley wine trip and the experience was awesome! We went with the rarities lineup and we thoroughly enjoyed the unique character behind each wine, especially the ones from Sonoma Coast when Evening Land was based there in the past (!). Our hostess, Diana, was such a pleasure to geek out with over the wines. She walked us through the portfolio, provided the backstory and even helped us set up a 2nd stop for our day of tasting. The facility is nice and our table for 6 guests was waiting for us on arrival. Very nicely set. Gorgeous stemware. Unfortunately, our host came across as a salesman. Rather than letting the wines speak for themselves, he upsold every wine, pushed stemware on us, and basically annoyed everyone in our group. Our $55 tasting fee was nonrefundable. This combination of issues, in my opinion, jaded everyone so much that none of them enjoyed the wines. I could see past his sales pitch and tried to enjoy the wines for what they were. I ended up purchasing a considerable amount of wine. None of the hosts at any of the other dozen or so wineries came across in this manner. Hopefully, when my wines arrive, I'll be able to enjoy them for the artistry that went into them and forget about our tasting experience. read more

Ok the wine here is great. This is an interesting vineyard because they have wines from Northern California, SLO and Oregon (although the main operation is in Oregon). While the regular tasting is refundable, but the $55 tasting which isn't refundable, so you are really enjoying the wine, you get a real treat in trying so many different styles and places. While a little non-traditional, it did give us to chance to try some very rare wines that we would not have otherwise sampled. The main drawback is that while convenient in Dundee, it is a retail building and doesn't have the ambience of other spots. And as with all retail outlets, you do have to do a little filtering of the sales pitch and just enjoy the incredible quality of the wine. read more

I'd heard really good things about Evening Land so I was pretty excited to come check it out. The tasting room is in a building with a few others (Angela Estate, Le Cadeau, etc..) so please note this is not their vineyard or winemaking location. They do offer a vineyard tour by appointment. The tasting room was empty when I arrived as it was near the end of the day. It's a casual tasting room and there was reggae music playing which seemed a little off-brand for them. The tasting options are a classic tasting ($20) or a Seven Springs tasting ($40). Their fee is waived only with the purchase of 6+ bottles which is pretty bizarre considering everywhere else I visited was 2 bottles or $40/$50. I was lucky to try their $75 and $100 pinot. While good, I did not think it was 2-3x as good as others I'd had that day. Similarly, the sparkling rose, while delicious, was $65 per bottle. Yikes! read more

We visited this tasting room today while visiting the willamette valley for the first time and can't say enough about the experience. Of the three vineyards we visited today, our host, Alyssa was by far the most knowledgeable and welcoming. Her thoughtfulness in the wine selection for us to taste and her vast knowledge of the way the grapes were grown and processed was unmatched. The wines were absolutely delicious and this is definitely a place we will visit again. read more

Beautiful space but the tasting fees are nothing short of stingy. Have to purchase 3 bottles to wave the $20 basic tasting and 12 bottles for the $55 reserve tasting. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth and it's not the Gamay Noir! Now the Zalto stemware they use is gorgeous, just wish the wine inside was more exciting. It may be the only tasting I've done in recent memory where I paid the tasting fee and left with no wine purchase. I stopped by here earlier today for a tasting with my wife. The tasting here felt somewhat elegant and I really enjoyed the pictures that they had on their walls. They were all of their properties and my favorite was of one of their vineyards at sunrise with a smoky color that was mt. hood in the background. After looking around a bit we were greeted and started our tasting. It consisted of three Pinot noirs and two Chardonnays. My wife assured me that the Pinot noirs were all good while I found both of the Chardonnays to my liking. Before each glass was poured our wine attendant told us the type of grapes used, how old the vines were and also where in the vineyard they were located. He was a very knowledgable and nice guy that helped to make our experience better. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. If you are one of those people that likes to do a little research, look up Seven Springs Vineyard. Evening Land's Seven Springs Vineyard is steeped in history and a coveted producing vineyard. If you just like to wing it, you will still be impressed. If you like the tasting room style, they have a location in Dundee where you can taste some amazing wine. Yes there is a $20 or $55 tasting fee. Don't let the fee freak you out. The wine is really that good. On this occasion we contacted Sarrah Torres at Evening Land and had a magical experience of a wine tasting at the Seven Springs Vineyard site. Yup that's right. Amazing. Wine tasting in the vineyard. I am convinced, I believe there is no better way to have a wine tasting than in the vineyard. I wish all tastings were this way. What better place to experience more than just the wine. We arrived in the late afternoon and had a glorious sunset at our backs as we watched the sun radiate off of Mt Hood and Mt St Hellen's and the valley floor. It was simply a magical evening land I Wish All Tastings Were Like This. I get it, the vineyard tasting is probably not for everyone. No fancy building, just vines, dirt, grass, views and nature. If you are looking for a traditional tasting room experience, a vineyard tour is not going to work for you. However, if you like seeing, feeling, smelling and hearing (yes, hearing!) the vineyard, then I suspect you will be as impressed as we were. This review isn't for the wine but the experience at their tasting room. It was quite a letdown, and I actually went in with no expectations as I got the impression that they really didn't care too much about doing tastings for the public, maybe it's more of a nuisance for them given they seem to have already enough success. Their tasting room is very sterile office like location off the vineyard strip in Dundee. They have two tastings, their wines for $20, and rarity wines for $55 ( this includes most in the first list and I think 3 additional tastings of the rarity wines - which aren't really that rare). I didn't think much of the cost until we went to other wineries and paid $10 with a boatload more hospitality, ambiance, and great wine I did feel like It was quite a ridiculous amount to pay. Ahhhh remorse. My sister who is much smarter than me despite being a decade younger got the $20 tasting. The first thing the uber-obnoxious pushy blonde sales guy behind the counter said after we gave our order was you're not going to be sharing that were you? While this thought never even crossed my mind until he brought it up I couldn't help but become aggravated by the suggestion, like I was intentionally scheming to try to save a buck. A few minutes into our tasting a group of mostly men walked in and ordered the very same thing except he didn't ask them... hmmm. He continued to be overly intrusive and I spit out most of the wine as I was there to taste not to drink he asked what he could wrap up for us and we both said nothing. I had fully intended on purchasing bottles, this was my first winery pick and the reason we drove out in the first place. I left with nothing and went down the road to the most lovely place the Four Graces where the first thing the woman there asked if we wanted to share a tasting or have our own. We both chuckled over this and shared that tasting outside on their beautiful patio enjoying the actual wine! It was amazing and I wrote a review for them. I also ended up spending over $300 there on some amazing bottles of wine, and thankfully they made it the highlight of our trip down to Dundee. read more

He explained each wine so a newby and a savvy wine drinker could understand. After going to some actual vineyards I decided to make my final stop at this location. After pulling into the parking lot and noticing it is more of a wine outlet than a vineyard I decided to go in with no expectations. Even with that the individual behind the counter was able to lower my experience by trying to upsell me at every turn. I first told him that I was an Alaksa Airlines MVP Gold and he said, oh, do you have your boarding pass, both of the other two vineyards did not ask me for that just my card was sufficent. My partner and I booked an indoor private tasting in Evening Land's Dundee tasting room for our anniversary on a recent cold and rainy Saturday. It was far and away one of the more memorable tasting experiences in recent memory! We were greeted by our friendly host, Alyssa, and sat at a large table with all of the wines from the flight poured out and ready for us. Alyssa was an absolute gem and the private format created a very intimate, one-on-one experience. Hands down, Evening Land produces some of the best Pinot and Chardonnay in Oregon and the tasting experience drives home the point that the emphasis is on the wine. We were floored by every wine on the tasting flight. Alyssa even poured us some off-flight goodies like the Chenin Blanc and 2016 La Source Pinot, which we promptly purchased. It's not the sexiest tasting room, but if you're more interested in substance that shouldn't matter. Plus, we learned that Evening Land will be opening a new tasting room in 2021, so you might be able have views soon. For the quality, hospitality, and good vibes, the $55 tasting fee was more than worth it. read more

Really awesome Pinot Noirs. Every single wine we had in our tasting flight was amazing. We might have tried about 6 different wines. I wanted to buy every single one but resisted and only bought 2. The tasting room was pretty easy to get to which was great for us since we were from out of town. About a five minute drive from the Downtown Newberg tasting rooms. Bonus points for that. read more

This place isn't complicated. You go here if you want to taste and buy top Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from historic, authentic vineyard sites. And that's exactly what you get at this place. Do you want to list off the top vineyards (the actual grape farms) in all of Oregon? Seven Springs, Shea, Hyland, Beaux Freres, Eyrie, Looney, etc. They farm the first one I named here. The tasting room is at the west side of downtown Dundee. The tasting is $20. Reserve tasting is $55. If you are a vineyard freak you should do the $55 tasting to let the older vintages swaddle you like a cool summer fog. Just let the sites wash over you. Make sure to taste the Gamay Noir, one of the most interesting varieties to ripen here. And they do it right. Cab Sauv to Cab Franc = Pinot Noir to Gamay Noir. Kelly hosted our tasting. He is super knowledgeable about wine from the WV and from around the world. We got excellent education on glassware (see my next paragraph) and a brief history of seven springs. This is the only winery in the area I have visited that is using the Zalto glassware. If you haven't held this stem in your hand it may be worth it just to hold this glass. They sell them there too for a million dollars a stem. It's the site. The site makes the wine delicious. Evening Land has an excellent site and excellent wine. read more

One of my favorite wineries. While I have not had an opportunity to visit in person yet, I am sure the in person experience of a visit is as high in quality as everything else they do. It is rare to find a totally consistent winery experience. Evening Land/Seven Springs has been that four leaf clover for me. Where I have found great wine elsewhere, here it is accompanied by warm, knowledgeable sales people who treat me as an individual and excitably share everything at the winery. I have enjoyed the same attention and care on the phone and internet as I have on my visits to the winery. There is no elitism here, there is only the desire to share a passionate, rare group of delicious wines. Drinking a bottle of wine always returns me to a place. Evening Land/Seven Springs is somewhere I am always happy to go. read more

Evening Land is one of the best producers of Pinot and Chardonnay in Oregon. They make wines that cellar well. Also, don't miss the Gamay.

The wine and property are equally stunning - the Chardonnay's in particular are, in my opinion, among the benchmarks of American white wine. But what makes Evening Land truly special was the incredible hospitality we received on the day we visited. On a bitter, windy day, AJ was gracious enough to still allow us to walk the vineyard, greeting us with a fire and wine upon arrival. The conversation and experience throughout were top notch. We can not wait to get back and would encourage anyone to make it a priority while traveling out west. read more

I specifically sought out this vineyard due to its highly rated Pinot's. To be fair, they were serving 2011s, which was a cool, wet, and challenging year. I found them to be a little flat and not offering a whole lot of flavor. Being from the SF Bay Area, I almost skipped the Chardonnay, thinking it couldn't compete with my favorite CA Chards. I'm glad I didn't. The 2011 Seven Springs La Source was exceptional. I did not expect to walk out with a bottle of Oregon Chardonnay, but that is exactly what happened. read more

I went to the wine tasting because I had heard their Seven Springs La Source Pinot had received a very high rating. The tastings were either 20.00 or 55.00. I chose the 55.00 one hoping I would taste more of their better wines. The person pouring had no interest in telling me about their wines....he just poured. When another person came in, now there were three of us, he told me he was busy and had to take care of everyone. He never once even mentioned that they represent the wine that came in number 3 in the world in Wine Spectator. I did purchase 2 bottles, but will not be back. read more

The wine would easily get 5 stars. With both Oregon and French Pinot and Chards, you'll be blown away by the wine. The tasting room is also conveniently located in a four-plex of tasting rooms, so you can easily walk across the hall for Spanish reds, or more Oregon pinots. That said, Evening Lands offered very limited seating, and the overall ambiance was somewhat lacking compared to other Willamette Valley wine spots. read more
