Wines are very nice and our wine educator was excellent. The location draws a lot of walk-ins but we never felt crowded or neglected. Each tasting is waived with a $100 purchase. We enjoyed the wine and therefore purchased $200+ to have the fees waived. The owner and winemaker Ken Wright has years of experience in the industry. He buys excellent fruit and in turn produces excellent wine. Definitely worth a visit when in Carlton or nearby.

This was an odd experience. I had reserved a tasting with J'Aime a month or so ahead of time--so as…read morea visitor from the midwest, I had put it into my itinerary. The night before, I emailed to confirm--only to get, the next morning, a text from J'Aime saying that I had never followed through. We ended up talking on the phone, and this was so very weird for me because I was actually looking at the email I had sent while she was aggressively arguing that I hadn't sent it. As things developed, she conceded that she missed it (but didn't apologize for gaslighting me), and agreed--somewhat reluctantly--to meet me, as long as I could get there earlier. I got there as fast as I could, maybe 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Then, I was given a very fast tour where I was told to not ask questions, to not speak at all, to just listen to her "set piece." It's not that the "set piece" wasn't interesting--it was, in a way. But 1/3 of it was stuff I already knew, from traveling the area for a couple weeks, and 1/3 of it was stuff she presented so quickly--and clearly not wanting me to ask questions--that I couldn't fully grasp it, as I had wished. The other 1/3 was useful. At the winery itself, the wine was fine, I liked it. There was nothing so special that I felt the need to join a membership, but I did take a bottle of wine back to my Airbnb with me. And to J'Amie's credit, she did make sure that I was fully recompensated for both the tour and the tasting. This was a learning/studying trip for me. I'm a former professor; studying wine is my retirement hobby. To shut "students" down from asking questions is inimical to real learning, so I was very disappointed in this. This was one of two wineries in Oregon who insisted on forced listening, rather than engaging.

A sparking Pinot Blanc and a complex, delightful Chardonnay started the wine introduction while the Pinot Noirs at the end are extraordinary and memorable. Enhancing our tasting was a delicious charcuterie board. Our wine advisor has a deep passion for the vinyard, the wine they make and pride for being from the Willamette Valley. The biodynamic farming practices remind me of the wineries of France and Italy that many of the wineries practice. When we got there, the place is very charming. The backyard is huge. There are so many outdoor tables. The service was very friendly. We felt that we were so lucky to find this place. Excellent examples of varietals that are popular in our area. The wait staff , who has worked at the location since it's opening, was friendly and knowledgeable. First off - the view is outstanding, and maybe worth the extra drive and effort to get to this location just to see it. BUT...the place, though lovely, is just not comfortable. It's not clear where you should park, or where the entrance to the tasting room is. The directional signage is awful, and when we asked about it, were told that since there are four businesses sharing the same road, they can't prioritize the vineyard over the other business. Hmmm. No one greeted us, and we didn't really feel welcomed, even though we had a reservation. Tiny little tastings, and nothing extra to add to the experience. We left feeling as though the wine tasting experience is just not their money maker, so they aren't all that interested in making this a priority. There are so many great wineries in the area, why waste your time on one that clearly values their $435 dinners, and $700/night rooms to rent???

We learned about the effects of the 2020 fires on the wines and were able to taste a Pinot from that year for comparison with the years just before. Our visit to Stangeland Vineyards and Winery was one of the nicest times I have had in a tasting room in a long time. The Staff and vineyard owner were friendly, welcoming, patient, informative and attentive (Thank You, Sierra!). The local wines were very good. The cost of the tastings was reasonable ... $10 per person for five, $15 per person for ten. We got invited by Monique, upon her moving to Nysa, to come and taste these library wines. They're "library" because they're all aged. The youngest wine we tasted was 2015. Where any other Vineyard you travel to in the Willamette, you'll find 2019 Wines. Because of that, Nysa draws a high tasting fee. You're drinking exclusive wines. 100-200 cases. $60 and up bottles. So expect a $50 tasting fee because what you're drinking is worth it. This isn't your average Willamette Pinot. You're getting a punch. Flavor and boldness in some of these wines that matches a Cabernet or Bordeaux. Wines that aren't light and airy but BIG. Flavorful and layered. Full palate wine. These are the wines you bring out at special occasions. The wines you store and let age a bit more. The wine you use to impress people with. You won't find Nysa at the grocery store, or liquor store. You'll find it here. Nysa is the "rich land where Dionysus, the God of wine, lived." And it is not short on beauty, wine or complexity. I'm so excited that we got in prior to the "public" opening, but we will definitely be back to see everything in its full beauty. The tasting room and production facility will be finished soon and it's going to have a little rebranding to bring the label into the 2020's but rip the label off mentally and think of some excellent wine, a great view and a perfect Oregon day in the Willamette Valley and you're at Nysa. So go visit!
