They also have an assortment of grass seeds and other basic landscaping products. For the Winter, they include rock salt and Heat as well as a wonderful assortment of Christmas decorations, including trees and lights. The staff are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, and willing to help customers as they walk in the door. When you ask for something, there is no "Depot Dumbness." They know what things are, where they are located, and what you need to get the job done. If you need just about anything for your home, try them. It beats the trip into Hagerstown, MD.

First Boltz is everything Home Depot isn't by that I mean there are Human Beings employed here interested in assisting you in your endeavors. Secondarily they have a really nice selection of Tomato plants in the spring. If you buy bird seed or grass seed for your lawn somewhere else your wasting your money. Just a random list of things they carry: onion sets, seed potatoes, seed by the Oz. I got enough Arugula seeds for the entire year for a fraction of those stupid seed packets at Blowes (Lowes). There is a small selection of hardware and tools along with candy and lots of WVU knick-knackery. So the next time you have the urge too explore your inner-hipster and grow some cucumbers and then make some pickles go too Boltz before it's to late.

What this means is that they have access to all goods and can offer them at competitive prices to the big box stores. Their selection is fantastic in most departments. My wife is particularly interested in feeding birds and they have all that stuff. I have been looking for a snow blower and they have an excellent buy ($200 savings oover competitive items) on a 27" Poulen/Husqvarna item that unfortunately is not available from the warehouse at the present time. I have sent an email inquiry to the warehouse asking if/when the item will be re-stocked and available (awaiting reply). Items such as this are not usually in stock at the local store, but you can get them shipped to the local store for free. So as long as you have a way to get it home, you can do just as well as big box, and perhaps better. The local store gets 5* because it's well organized and it's easy to find things. But because their supplier doesn't have what I want, I will give an overall 4* If they come through, I will write an update and upgrade the overall score.

Shout out to Cynthia at Tractor Supply. It's a wintery rain tonight (the kind that makes you rush,…read moreshivering, from your car to the entrance door quick as you can) as I pulled into the parking lot, I saw her hoisting a dozen wet and heavy bags of pellets from an outdoor display heap into the back of a customer's SUV. This employee had a courteous smile on her face as she carried bag after bag over, but what struck me most was how sadly indifferent the customer was: warm & smug and no where near as close to the pellet pile as she could have parked to lighten the load. Cynthia (still dripping from the chilly parking lot) instantly welcomed me in and gave me excellent customer service. I told her I was on the hunt for a chicken sweater for my daughter, and she looked through the racks with me for the exact one, which they seem to have been sold out of. Then she brought my attention to a lot of other chicken themed clothes that would absolutely delight my daughter, but weren't the sweater. Suddenly I spotted a pink sweatshirt on the clearance rack with a big chicken on it, in my daughter's size! And holy shmokes it was only six dollars!! Cynthia was genuinely so happy for me. I just loved her attitude the whole time. I'm just passing through town from out of state and will probably never be here again but I hope the locals appreciate the kind, cheerful person they are blessed to have helping them with their orders at this TSC, rain or shine. Recently they expanded their grocery section to include fresh produce (!!!) and a bigger selection of beverages and more. Other delightful finds that have been unexpectedly brought to us from this Dollar General: nice, design-happy storage baskets, all kinds of art supplies for the kids, toys, hats, and pool noodles. Employees are always around (even if you can't immediately find them at the cashier -- be patient!) and very friendly. No complaints. Excited to see the continued expansion of the grocery section.

I have been lucky and found some good deals on nearly perfect clothing but I know that is not the case with everyone. Also, it is not organized so be prepared to dig around a bit.
