I've been seeing Dr. Dawson for at least 25 years for different skin issues, and he's been a lifesaver in keeping my skin looking younger than I am. I recently visited him about some whitehead-like bumps on my face. He diagnosed them as sebaceous hyperplasia and scheduled an appointment with his physician assistant, Rachel Inouye. He raved about her skills and mentioned she could see me sooner. And boy, was he spot on! She was fantastic! She took her time to answer all my questions and explained everything I needed to know about the procedure and what to do afterward. She was incredibly thorough and detailed during the electrocautery of my bumps. She also gave me plenty of advice on how to prevent them in the future and how to care for the treated areas. It all started with me hiking on a hot summer afternoon without sunscreen protection. I got sunburnt and my lips chapped. It led to parts of my lip cracking and unfortunately the situation got worse. I used lip balm and Vaseline where it helped but the issue never resolved. At times the skin near my mouth dried out and then would shed dead skin. This was a vicious cycle that wouldn't stop. After trying OTC remedies with no luck, I finally went to a MinuteClinic where I was advised I had an infection. The nurse practitioner prescribed me a steroid cream that had immediate results but sadly, it didn't go away 100%. My lips would crack but not as often and my lips became numb, and food didn't taste that good. During a telehealth appointment with my PCP, I addressed this issue and she also prescribed me a steroid cream. We eventually had a follow-up appointment in 3 months where I informed my PCP that the irritation was less severe but persisted. We agreed it was time to see a specialist. I was advised to see Dr. Kevin Dawson of Dawson Dermatology (DD) located of the 4th floor of Queen's POB I. Making an appointment at DD was easy as I decided to take off from work on one their opening slots. On the day of my appointment, I made sure to arrive early to complete the necessary documentation as this was my first visit to DD. Before going up the elevator, I took my temperature on the ground floor and with a satisfying reading, the staff gave me a sticker as proof my temperature was taken and no fever. The office of DD is also well prepared with a device to take your temperature and had a partition between you and the staff. It was just before the holidays, so they had a Christmas tree with several large screen TVs in their waiting area. The check-in process was standard. I submitted my insurance card and DL, and completed their forms. Once completed, I was soon called to a room where one of their staff asked me multiple questions which included what medication/prescriptions I was taking. I'll be frank where I don't remember the names of them, and I didn't have them with me. The staff troubleshooted by asking me where I went to pick up my meds and he was able to call and obtain the information needed. Dr. Dawson entered the room, and he assessed the irritation around my mouth. I was asked a series of questions trying to diagnose the source of this irritation. I was informed it is difficult to pinpoint the source, so he advised me to eliminate using some applications and necessities I disclosed. He also prescribed me a different ointment to use and advised me to either call 911 in case of an emergency or to call his office sooner than the 1-month follow-up appointment. During my post 1-month follow-up, the appointment went very smoothly with his staff checking on the status and following-up with Dr. Dawson's suggestions. I eliminated my baking soda toothpaste and the irritation healed nicely after 2 weeks of his prescribed ointment. But during a recent hike where it was quite hot and humid, the same area flared up and so I started to use the ointment again. Now that we have a better understanding of my irritation, I was advised to continue to use the ointment should my skin flare up again for up to 2 weeks in a month. I was also pleased to be informed my prescription is good for up to 2 refills and for me to call the pharmacy directly should I run low. Overall, a very satisfied patient under the care of Dr. Kevin Dawson and his staff. There was a hiccup with my card payment for my initial visit but because I have experience with the credit card processing issues, it was no biggie as I verified my single payment via my credit card company via the phone app. If you should have issues with your skin, I would recommend Dr. Kevin Dawson of Dawson Dermatology. 2022 #5 read more

I don't understand these negative reviews I've always been pleased with his staff they are never unpleasant and always accommodating even if I have an emergency and I need to be seen right away they make sure that I am seen within 48 hours or less , my last visit I had no insurance they were nice enough to squeeze me into the schedule give me a discount and some medication for free I was so surprised and pleased Shaka for Dr Dawson's team. I was referred by my partner who saw Dr. Grekin in the past and liked her. When we left the office, unprovoked, my partner looked at me and said, "I'm so sorry. She wasn't like that before." I was able to get an appointment to see Dr. Grekin within a week of reaching out, which was such a relief as I have a few urgent issues needing to be addressed. Because of issues with dexterity and fine motor control in my dominant hand, writing is extremely difficult so I always ask if there are forms to complete ahead of my appointment. I was told no. However, their website has forms so I completed them prior to my appointment, faxed it and brought them with me anyway. A referral from my PCP wasn't needed (yay!). I was asked when scheduling my appointment for my vaccination status. According to their website you must be vaccinated to be seen in office, telehealth is available for those not vaccinated. I showed up 10 minutes prior per their website instructions. The waiting room is large with a lot of chairs; it was empty when I checked in. One of the pros to the pandemic is doctors offices are not normally crowded. I am thankful for that since I am wheelchair dependent, navigating a waiting room with this many chairs and potential patients would've been overwhelming. Wait time to be escorted to the examine room was short, two minutes at most. Time with the assistant and doctor seemed very rushed and as if I was somehow being an inconvenience. It was like being in a drive-thru, you order an item, the worker barely allows you to finish and says, "does this complete your order?", after every item ordered. I knew to terminate further "care" here after concerns of mine were not treated with importance whatsoever. I was provided a couple of options to treat one of my issues, no time was taken to explain what the medication was, how it works, side effects, etc. It was only after probing that a probable diagnosis (using this word ever so loosely) was given. A grim future was painted because there is no cure for this condition but management options were barely shared. It didn't seem I received proper evaluation of my open wounds I've had for over a year. My OBGYN (bless her!) spent more time than this dermatologist did. No bloodwork ordered, no tests for infections, etc. I just received a prescription for topical cream (she offered an antibiotic but I declined not knowing if I really needed it or not). I have a complex and lengthy medical history. To put it into perspective and show I am not new to the medical rodeo, I've surpassed my $2,500 max out-of-pocket expense for the last 4 years, have seen countless doctors here and CONUS. I try my hardest to be understanding, patient, sympathetic, graceful, etc., even more so during the pandemic, it's been hard on so many, myself and my family included. But the disregard here is absolutely unacceptable and I refuse to return to this practice. I completely understand what it means to be efficient, this, was not, that, unless the goal was to get me out with as little treatment and as quickly as possible. This may be the place for you if you have only one issue or a skin anomaly that can easily be nipped in the bud. Dr. Dawson is amazing with his skills as a Botox and filler injector! Seriously, the best. If you're going to pay for quality fillers and Botox, you should have an awesome doctor to inject them in the best way possible. Located in the Queen's POB 1, parking is easy and they validate at the desk. You will have to get your temperature checked at the entrance to the POB and wear a sticker that you are "cleared". Regarding the COViD precautions here, they adhere to the regulations. Masks are worn by all staff and Dr. wears a shield while with patients. When seeing the doc, you will wear your mask, only taking it off if necessary for the procedure you are having performed. The waiting area and procedure rooms are clean. Dr. Dawson makes you look "naturally" better- small amounts of filler and Botox can go a long way. I have had filler and Botox at other places and they don't seem to last as long. I was told I metabolize it fast- but I think it was also attributed to the skill of the person injecting it! I have seen Dr. Dawson many times and he is consistently amazing at the work that he does. Careful and caring, he takes the time to do his best work- every time! He is honest with his options and recommendations and never tries to up-sell you. This is my experience with Dawson Dermatology, Hawaii Kai Office. I made an appointment with Dawson Dermatology by calling their office located at Queen's. The Hawaii Kai staff welcomed me warmly. They were very clear with their instructions on checking my personal information to be sure that they had the most up-to-date info. After waiting just a few minutes, I was taken into the office and assisted by the male medical assistant who was very nice and he seemed happy to be working there. Dr. Erin Fuller came in immediately after and greeted me. She checked my skin concerns thoroughly and gave me suggestions on how to better take care of my skin. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Douglas Chun. He likes to do small chat about unimportant stuff. If you are in a rush, you might want to see another doctor. He told me he could do a biopsy on a small growth on my face but it would leave a scar. So I asked him, how could I remove that without major scaring. He told me, "well, you need a plastic surgeon then. Give her a referral.". Then, he left. The unfriendly nurse came back in and gave me a doctor's name. I asked her if the doctor was in the building because her paper didn't have a phone number and address on it. I figured if you are gonna refer me to someone, at least you have some sort of information on them. She told me I think he is somewhere in town. I feel like I just wasted my time there. Repeat visits for the same issues because they resolve nothing. ALL of the Office staff is so terribly rude. Dr. Dawson is pretty nice but he's surrounded by truly awful personnel. Now, they instituted a vaccine police. A DOCTOR who won't see patients who aren't vaccinated. So, when a primary care doesn't allow a patient to be vaccinated, a DERMATOLOGIST won't see the patient. Even if the patient has antibodies from previous infection and CANT be vaccinated because it's detrimental to his health. I saw the only female Dr. at this practice. She was pleasant but I left with one MAJOR question. Why would she not mention anything about sunscreen and exposure, knowing I was new to Hawaii? An hour in the sun here is like 4 on the east coast. A mention of what would be the most effective in terms of sunscreen was something I assumed would be high on her list. From the beach to the dermatologist ! My first time at the dermatologist, kinda unnerving. Having a screening due to my fun lifestyle, water and sun all day everyday? No, not really but still love the sun and maybe getting too much of it. Was I worried going in for my first dermatological examination? Sure, I don't know what they'd find. Luckily the staff is amazing and the doctor was great, super fun and playful almost like hanging with a old friend. But that's not why you see a doctor right, you want to see a doctor to get health related info and some calm words about possible outcomes, well that's what I received. The doctors are amazing as their bedside manor is only matched by the knowledge they try to instill, leaving I felt like I received a wealth of information in a format that did not seem stressed or rushed. It's amazing how a tone of voice and a nice vibe can do wonders for any interaction, including a new encounter between two or more people. Over all, love this place, I certainly will be making my yearly screening here so next year on this anniversary come and joint me. When I walked into the office, somehow my appointment magically disappeared. The receptionist was going to try and fit me in but it turns out, my insurance isnt accepted after all. The rudest medical staff I've ever encountered. I went in for testing but eventually found out the sample was not sent to the lab for processing. When I scheduled my follow-up appointment to ask what happened and get the test again, Dr. Sarah Grekin was extremely rude, dismissive, and offered no help or resolution to the issue. I went in for a mole removal, right near my eye. I was at another doctor who was worried about working on it, since it was so close to my eye. She referred me to Dawson Dermatology, and I made an appointment and was seen in just under 10 minutes, which was surprising. The doctor I saw here did a quick exam, asked me a few questions and took care of it with liquid nitrogen. And just like she said, the mole fell off after a week or so, and didn't even leave a scar. So honestly, I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. I even received a call from Dr. Dawson himself when I complained about accidentally getting put on a customer-only mailing list for some kind of laser treatment they perform, which he remedied promptly. First impressions are everything! I actually cancelled my first appointment the day I made it, because the staff over the phone just didn't seem to care AT ALL. They were short with me and consistently cut me off when I talked. Gave me a bad feeling about what it would be like to visit there regularly. I confirmed I made the right decision to cancel when they didn't ask why or if I needed to reschedule; she just said thanks and hung up. Dr. Dawson has great bedside manner. First thing I noticed about him was how he sat down and talked to me versus standing and looking down towards me. It felt more meaningful and shows he cares. I originally came in for a rash on my cheek that wouldn't go away for several months. Dr. Dawson prescribed me a cream that made it vanish in just 2 days. I am so thankful and also grateful. He is very kind and not to mention, his face is glowing. I was envious! haha The staff there are also friendly and helpful through the phone and in person. I cannot stand offices where staff are rude over the phone, but not at this place. Everyone in the office, including the front desk clerks and the technicians, is friendly. I've gone three times in the mornings and it's great. The check-in process is smooth and I only wait for 10 min at most. Dr. Dawson himself is no-nonsense: he's quick, and he lays out treatment options with the risks and benefits of each. (My visits are for treating common hand warts and face acne.) Yet, he was friendly. I just wish I had more time to talk to him. Only one thing keeps me from giving five stars, and that was my third visit. I couldn't see him on my second visit because he would be on vacation, and I was aware that would just be a treatment session for my warts. I was supposed to see him my third visit re: treatment progress, but when I got there, the clerk said he was on vacation, and this would just be another treatment session with a technician. Where was my phone call, or at least an email? Overall though, I'm still going in for my fourth visit - I'm just glad they take my insurance. Still an overall positive experience. read more

Despite having Kaiser Insurance, which doesn't cover this, Dawson Dermatology went above and beyond to get me in and do what Kaiser could not. Rather than feel like part of a herd of cattle, I was taken care of very well and made to feel as if I wasn't just another patient for another day. Mr. Dawson asked lots of questions relating to my hives and issues and listed many things that could possibly be affecting me. Got prescribed something that wasn't kaiser brand was off to pick up my medication. The staff was friendly, the office was very welcoming which makes me wonder if someone there is a master of the feng-shui arts! Mr. Dawson let me know that if anything did come up, I was more than welcome to call him and let him know and he would check it out. It wasn't one of those doctor check ups where they want to get you out as fast as possible. Whatever skin ailments or problems you may have, Dawson Dermatology has my vote and I suggest you check them out. They really put my mind at ease and I TRUST them, which is the biggest point for me when it comes to doctors and my health! read more

I have never missed a payment to your establishment, but when I switched health insurance the day after my last visit with you, there was some confusion on whom the bill should go to. Instead of your staff informing me of the confusion, I was told by a female in the billing department that my insurance company has rejected me, and they aren't going to pay my bill in a very rude tone. Is this how your staff is trained to speak to your patients? I tried to explain the situation, and also told her I never have even received a bill, so why am I being treated like I am overdue or late? I asked how much the bill even was seeing as I was in your office for a total of 6 minutes, the lady told me $100. I laughed and said send me the bill, it's not even worth dealing with the treatment your staff gave me. I will not be returning to your establishment! PS Dr. Grekin you always made me feel like I was taking up to much of your time by asking questions, and I felt like you always had one foot out the door. You also never listened to my concerns, but just said what you thought in a condescending manner. And lastly, you told me I had a BCC spot, and that I should have it removed. I choose the chemo cream instead for 6 weeks, nothing happened. I came back in and told you nothing happened, and you said "I must have got it all with the biopsy." You also said " if there was Cancer there, something would have happened," so now I am left wondering did I ever even have BCC? Now I have a scar, my insurance paid $700+ for the biopsy and visits, and I paid $200 for the chemo cream, and I'm supposed to feel relaxed because you must have got it with the biopsy, WTF!!! read more

This is a very unprofessional practice, I went to see a dermatology my first appointment dermatology with this practice. My appointment was with Dr Sarah J. Grekin, MD. She was very poor service, patient relationship, she did not even look at my skin. She told me she has seen many skins, I thought to myself how do you know how long, discoloration, symptoms before diagnosis and prescribing steroids, which is likely to cause cancer. I wanted a few test to be done since I was experiencing different symptoms. She is interrupted me mid sentence. I let her talk, then she told me I was aggressive. I will be notifying my insurance as well to report this incident. When I told her that I am the one with skin issue, why would you listen to concern, then she lets out a sign. The classic thing was she told me that my skin will not heal. I thought to myself how can you be a doctor to treat skin. Calling your patient name when you lack the communication is very unprofessional for a trained doctor. If you do not want to treat people of color then you should make sure you don't see people of color. That is a Racist. While she apologized for her behavior because I did not steep to her level. I came to an expert, she prove to me she is not. I would not be returning to the Dawson Dermatology. I would be watching my insurance bill because I asked them what is the co-payment. The patient and doctor is lacking for me. How can you trust a doctor that does not listen to their patients. I would suggest that you discuss with patient and listen. You don't know me as a matter of fact I am not from Hawaii, your behavior was very unprofessional. You can be in practice with this sort of behavior. read more
