When i needed smog checks for the first time this year, I found out to my dismay that smog checks in Davis are regularly quite a bit more than Sacramento. I called every Davis smog check place and this one was actually less expensive than others ($65 vs. $75). In first impression, i could see why the business owner does not appeal to some people. He is blunt, dances to his own tune and does not spend a lot of time on customer service. However, when my smog check failed, he offered free repeat. I had the problem fixed but the smog error took about 500 miles of driving before it was cleared. In the meantime, I stopped by at least twice and he kindly checked the car each time and told me the error was still visible. He refused to get paid for any of those repeat checks. Altogether, despite his blunt exterior, I think this business owner is an honest person at a time when there are not too many honest people left in this world. So I would recommend him. read more

This shop gave me an inaccurate smog report for my Toyota truck. Leading me to waste time and energy, looking for a solution and delaying my truck registration. When I took this truck to another shop, it passed smog and they said most likely the first shop just failed to let the truck warm up to normal operating temperature. Went to get my wife's ride smog checked and we took it here because we had a $20 off coupon! This smog check spot is in the same complex as the speedee oil change and a DIY car wash station. When I came, i was the only one and there was only one employee working. The employee was okay, not the friendliest but not the worst. Customer service isn't the greatest but they get the job done. Due to covid19, we are not allowed to wait in the waiting room and have to wait outside. There is seating outside though! The smog check took roughly 15 minutes with a passing test. Total price is $55.... that's average for a mid size SUV.... Would I recommend, probably not but it's an option if you are in Davis. Average score is 3 stars! read more

I've been going here since it's by my house for 3 years now. They have smogged multiple of my vehicles multiple times. Today I was refused service because he doesn't like my license plate frames and the business they represent. The license plate frames weren't a problem the past two years but I guess they are now. It was fine. There was one guy, and he was busy with some chores when I showed up so I sat down. He saw me and came in just after he got to a point he could stop his cleaning. I filled out a form and he started my smog. in 10-15 minutes he was done and I paid. It was completely uneventful and pretty quick in comparison to my previous experiences. I am starting to think these places can be not that great of an experiences because every comes at once when they a discount is advertised. I cam Halloween morning and I was completely alone. I unfortunately didn't view the low rating on Yelp before going, and chose it because it was close to me and a little cheaper than EZ Smog where I usually go. After my vehicle didn't pass, and after then reading up on the battery-dying issue causing reset of computerized emissions settings and a failed test, I went back to ask him if that could be the reason for mine failing. His manner is very hurried (the more money to make), so I made sure there were no other customers waiting (only fair to him). Communication impossible, with him rudely cutting me off and giving nonsensical answers because of not having the patience to listen, and basically trying to shoo me out (because no money to be made). A friend told me that, when her car failed at EZ Smog for the dead-battery reason, the guy there let her go back again and again for free retests till she'd finally driven enough miles to reset the computers to the proper settings. I just had to get a Smog check in order to renew my registration for my car and decided to come to this place since it was near my place. There was nobody else there so I was instantly helped. I was in a hurry so it was awesome to be helped so quickly. The test only took about 10 or 15 minutes to finish. They sent the electronic certificate to the DMV and I was good to go. I also had a $20 off coupon that was applied so it was pretty cheap to get the test done. I was very happy of how affordable and fast the service was. Don't go here. You have been warned. For most cars, they charge $75. $55 if you print the coupon from their website and bring it with you. I suspect most people refuse to go home and print it, and end up paying the $75. I didn't know the bit about having to print the coupon. I showed them the coupon on my phone. Horrible customer service. Great for you, being the only place in Davis open on Sundays. I went to SpeeDee, next door, who apparently do not do Smog on Sundays. They said take it next door to Davis Smog. I went over and asked the owner if he would honor the SpeeDee coupon, to which he replied "no." Fine, even though most places will do that. I went home and found the Coupon in The Little Green Coupon Machine, for Davis Smog. Went back to go get my smog done with HIS coupon. Pulled up to the driveway, and there was one car inside the garage being worked on. I'll remind you this is a Test Only Station, which means they don't do other car repairs, so the car in the garage was in for smog, too. The man emerged from the garage and approached me, saying he doesn't have time for me today, come back tomorrow. I said "it's 10:45 a.m., there's only one car in front of me, and you don't close until 3:00 p.m." He replied "I have other people coming, you come back tomorrow." I have previously brought 3 different cars to Davis smog with no issues but for some reason I brought my car in this time and the owner refused to smog my car after saying that the intake I had was not stock and that it was "too modified". I explained that I have a cobb intake and it is one of the only after market intakes approved for smog in california. I also have the emissions certification sticker on the actual intake which the technician (owner) refused to even consider looking at. After trying to explain that I had the sticker and to look at it, the owner became very rude and told me to leave. This is very disappointing considering I drove half an hour to this shop because of the great service in the past. I then asked for a business card to write a review and was told that if I didn't leave he would call the police. REDICULOUS. I would understand if I didn't have ANY supporting paperwork but I had all necessary components and only ended up with a waste of my time and gas. I will definitely not be returning ever and will encourage people to steer clear of this shop. Never ever come to this place. I initially went to Davis Smog because there was no line. It didn't pass, which was expected. I was told to keep the receipt, bring the car back and they would re-check without an additional fee. My husband took the car back today. The lady at the counter said it had to be brought back within 45 days for the no fee deal. This was not explained initially, nor was it anywhere on the receipt. Well I got a little bad news here. Not their fault though, I hope. The front desk person was very cheerful and attentive. She quickly got me going although they said they were busy and told me it would be about 35 minutes. In the little waiting room there is FREE WiFi!!! So for all those times you need to get your vehicle smogged or if you want to bring your friends' cars in for them, don't forget your laptop. If you do forget you can still watch Judge Judy in the lobby while you wait. I personally brought my bicycle and left while they did the testing though. In about 35 minutes I was done, but my vehicle didn't pass. boohoo. Turns out that the repairs may cost about $800 but I might qualify for financial assistance. I didn't actually check all the smog testing facilities in Davis but it turns out that this one ended up being cheaper, and they do a free re-test if your vehicle fails. I came here to get my car smogged on Saturday and my car was ready within 20 mins. Sad news was my car failed because my boyfriend had pulled the battery plug to reset my check engine light. Everything else passed so the guy told me to just drive around a bit more and come back if the check engine light doesn't come on again. I drove about back to Oakland for a friend's dinner and came back to get a FREE re-check and passed! =) I had two different inspectors both times I came and both were very helpful and explained things to me clearly.
