I have gone to Dr. Tom for probably 10 years. He was fine and pleasant--one time kind of short or seeming in a bad mood, but not too bad. The staff is great and friendly. This all changed with my latest annual exam. The initial appt went well and Dr. Tom was friendly and helpful. When i came back a week later to check my new contacts for fit, I couldn't believe the treatment. The contacts were fine for vision, but very drying. He told me to throw them away and try on a different brand. When i tried the first of 3 different pairs, i said "it's comfortable, but i can't see out of my left eye". Like i had no correction at all--or at the very least totally wrong correction. He had me read the chart with both eyes and said "you could see better with the other pair" and i said "yes, because i can't see out of my left eye". He just said "hmm, ok, try this other pair". Same problem. then another pair--same problem. He did not even seem to understand what i was saying. I coudn't understand why he wasn't listening to me when i said I CAN"T SEE OUT OF MY ONE EYE. He seemed annoyed that they weren't working. then he gave me a pair that he said were the same as the pair (brand) i'd walked in with (which i could see out of, but were uncomfortable). I said, i still can't see out of my left eye. He said, the front desk can order these for you. I told him AGAIN that i couldn't SEE and that i thought the RX had been transposed or something. He literally argued with me "you are wearing the exact same prescription that you walked in with". and i said "but i could see when i walked in". he just kept telling me i had the exact same lenses--in a challenging and cold way as if i was LYING about not being able to see. He never resolved the problem--just left me there at the front desk. his staff was wonderful--and i had the impression that they'd seen this before. they tried to help me, but how can they order me the wrong rx?????? the fact that he was basically nice for 10 years does not excuse this experience. i will never, never, never set foot in that office again. i have never been so badly treated ever by a "professional" or probably anybody at any business. i was not angry, argumentative or difficult in any way--just completely flabbergasted that no matter how many times i told him i couldn't see, he just couldn't have cared less. i seriously felt like i was on an episode of the twilight zone--i'm still shaking my head in disbelief about it 2 weeks later. something is very wrong with this provider. i completely understand and relate to the other negative reviews i read here. read more
