Would set up driving lessons apt only to cancel at the last minute. Would reschedule then not show up. I decided to go with another local company and was set up right away. My instructor Maria at David Academy Driving School controlled me very well in teaching me the various basics of driving in the city and on the freeway. The instruction given was two-hour lessons alternating with 20 hours of practice. Each lesson I would find things I was not aware I was doing wrongly and then knowing them I could and would practice them to improve my driving. She's a life saver! read more

I got such a poor experience with Davis Academy Driving School. It runs very unprofessionally in every aspect including customer communication and lesson experience. Shocking me mostly is that I got a text saying my purchased package is expired after my child had two lessons, and I need to pay extra $65 to activate my account because it was over a year since I purchased the package. I was never told such a thing. When I asked, they showed me a screenshot with such information on a form with empty parent and student signatures. I said I never saw this form and signed this form. They say it is just a policy, not need to sign. It is such a terrible deed, not mentioning the mess and unprofessional manner in the email or phone communications. On the chance you don't read this whole review, I'm going to say this straight away, the owner of this business, Leticia, after acting horribly unprofessional (making personal phone calls DURING my daughter's driving lesson), contacted my child directly without my permission or knowledge, telling her to be more "grateful" and "hunt for the good." I repeat. When my daughter answered the phone, this woman took it upon herself to CRITIQUE and CORRECT my CHILD after I called to discuss her lack of professionalism. This is, of course, to all thinking humanity, so incredibly inappropriate, unprofessional, and wrong it boggles the mind. When I finally spoke to Leticia, she was almost entirely unhinged, stating that she spoke to my daughter "nicely" as if THAT was the freaking point here, and ranting on and on about how she loves kids or some nonsense. She couldn't see the startling inappropriateness of her critiquing and speaking to my child regarding MY complaint. RUN from this place. I mean, run. All these reviews are true, and my daughter has spoken with friends who've had the same experience as she did. There are places in Woodland and elsewhere. Go there. It's an unfortunate local business that fails to fulfill the vase majority of customer's requiremet. The price is relatively cheap compare to the surrounding area, but it will bite you later. The registration system is a mess, the email address on their website is completely no responding, and the phone number will lead you to another number that's not shown on their website just for booking the appointment - and all the trouble to arrange thetime, it's not a guaranteed thing you will get your turn on time. It has happened to me multiple times - once it's arranged on 2pm, but nobody came, then a few days later they message back says they forget, and I had to arrange a new time; and once it's on 1pm, I double checked with them to confirm the time and yet they still messed up, not showing up until 3pm saying they confused me with another student. DON'T take driving lesson from this, take it anywhere else. read more

So disappointed with the recent service. On Friday July 12th, lesson was cancelled purportedly due to driver illness and rescheduled for today at 4:30 pm. My son requested pick up from work and a phone call when the driver arrived. He called at 4:35 pm when no one called and no one was in the parking lot. He was told the driver was stuck in traffic and would arrive shortly. Subsequently, he received a call back stating the driver was there at 4:30 and left and would not return for the appointment. Carla offered to reschedule AGAIN, this time for August 1st. The reality is the driver NEVER was there and they weren't being truthful. On his two previous lessons the driver called both times when he arrived. Credibility and honesty are important. We simply want to get his certification and move on from this experience read more

Updating to three stars because of good customer service. The office contacted me regarding the cancellation and explained the situation. Despite all the drama, I'm grateful that at least they have good service and care about their customers. They're also hiring, so I'm hoping that in the future, their office hour would be longer, and more staff members would be available to pick up the phone when students have questions/need to call in to cancel or reschedule classes during office hour. Even though when instructors cancel on students last minute, students wouldn't be compensated in any way, they said it's the first time that happened. I love how they care about their employees that instructors rights were protected by the cancellation penalty, because not a lot of small private companies do that. However, I wish they could treat the students the same way the treat their employees and protect students rights, so nobody would cancel on nobody without explanation ahead of time. I hope there would be better communication between the management and the instructors, and students can be notified as soon as possible instead of very last minute. I've had 3 classes with them, and will have at least one more class with them. I feel like they have helped me so much, considering I've never driven before. ___________________________________ My instructor texted me at 9:24am to cancel our lesson at 9:30am because the driving school didn't leave him a car??? I even got a confirmation phone call from the office the day before. Yeah I know, it sounds so ridiculous I can't believe it actually happened lol. I'll attach a screenshot of the text messages I got from the instructor. I'm just panicking because my test is coming up in ten days. My questions are: 1). Don't instructors have access to the cars even when the office isn't open? If not, don't they have keys to the garage that has all the cars? 2). When students cancel a lesson, there's a $65 cancellation fee. However, when instructor cancels on students, is there a compensation fee paid to the students? If not, it's super unfair to students. Other than that, the instructor David, the instructor that cancelled on me, is a good instructor. He's the one that can prepare me the best for my behind the wheel test. I would recommend! The other instructor talks too much when I'm driving. As a new driver, I get super anxious when people are constantly talking to me when I'm driving. If I could make it a "0" stars, I WOULD!!!!! Drove all the way to Davis from fairfield to go to this company, because they were supposedly open on Saturdays... Turns out, they're not!! My daughter was scheduled to have her first drivers training on a Saturday, they did a no show, no call. They can't even change their answering machine to indicate their "new" hours! PLUS, I had to cancel the last drivers training class, I called MULTIPLE times to let them know this; they finally called back and wouldn't give a refund!!!! I took two driving class and borrow their car for test. WHENEVER I call the office, no one picks up the phone!!!!!!! On my test day, I supposed to have my appointment at 9:15 so I could get practice for one hour and also use the car for test. I paid 155 for that. However, the coach came 50 minutes late which I only got 15 minutes to practice and get familiar with the car before the test. I called the office and left a message but they never called back. Same thing happened when I was taking the driving class with this driving school. They r always 20-30 minutes late for my appointment time. I was calling the office but most time no one answer the phone! But this seemed like the only driving school in Davis. I don't know any other ones. But if someone knows any other schools, def go for it. I highly recommend you to avoid taking class here!!!!!!!! read more

My little sister is all grown up now and I paid for 6 hours of instruction for this school as it is close to her. Huge mistake and I wished I had read these reviews earlier. The instructor call us 30 minutes after the scheduled time to tell us that she couldn't make it and needed to reschedule THREE weeks later. Fast forward three weeks and an attitudinal instructor shows up literally griping the whole time at my sister about having to work late. I'm sorry you have two jobs. We cancelled the remaining schedule hours and searched Google for Drivers Ed, I highly recommend you take one of the national chain driving schools, any one of them. This was the only driving school in Davis which I found. First of all, they rarely pick up the call even in working hours. Sometimes they do call back. Even after seeing all negative reviews about this school, I booked a class with them. But the instructor Monica was too good an instructor. She gave all the necessary information for clearing the exam. She made me feel comfortable driving on CA roads (I have been driving for long in India, just needed to get used to the driving rules of US). Till this time it was a good experience. Next came the test date, I booked their car for the test. The instructor (an elderly fellow, don't remember his name) came around half an hour before test time. The moment I started from my office, he started yelling on me. I know, I did a mistake, but it takes few minutes to get settled in a new car. That made me nervous and through out our way till DMV he kept shouting on some or the other thing which made me too nervous for the test. Even he discouraged me by saying, its better you don't go for test and book it another time. I did a mistake, I should have cancelled my appointment as going with such nervous mind set never works well. Same happened, I didn't passed that day. Then I decided not to take the car from this school, in case they send the same guy, for sure he will again make me nervous and 135 is a big amount to invest with such risk. I got a rental car and went with my friend after few days, and cleared the test easily. The 2 star is only for the instructor Monica, who was too good as an instructor. I had this school back in 2014, and it was terrible. Monica was a good instructor, but the other guy doesn't know what he's doing. Unfortunately, you can't choose who you get. He talks too much and criticizes a lot. When he sense that you're mad, he'll quiet down a bit until you make another rookie mistake. Then it's more criticism. I rented a car from this place too because I had to take the test. Unfortunately, it was the same guy again. We got to do a prep run through downtown, but after failing the driving test, he started making fun of my driving again. Also pointed out that I was stupid to rent the car and take the test when I could've spent more money on his classes instead. Definitely kills your self-esteem. Do not go here - ever! read more

I would give this place a 0 star review if I could. This academy is a complete scam. First thing: When scheduling and paying for your classes they only accepted through pay-pal which at first felt a bit strange to me, but it is only so they cannot give you refunds for the lack of service they will not provide you. Secondly : Scheduling. Where do I even begin with it. They will give you dates for your lessons but will not fulfill them. My lessons were supposed to be a half week course in February, My final lesson was December 13th. The Academy would repetitively cancel my classes and when contacting the person that would give me the time for my lessons (which happens to be someones personal phone and would open my messages, and ignored them) I would be left disappointed. Finally: the instructors. I only have been with two of the instructors and I would not be surprised if Davis only had two because of the fact they had to reschedule and cancel multiple times and couldn't find someone to come to my appointment or even find a new time for the appointment. One of the instructor has the tendency to constantly step on the breaks while driving which i have believed ruined the state of the car because when trying to press on the gas, the car would go straight to 30 mph (even if barely tapping on it with your foot), which is extremely dangerous for both of the people in the car. The same instructor would explain the same thing over and over to me, but would use metaphors and sayings that would not make sense to me. On my last lesson, the other instructor made weird comments out of the blue about a group of people eating cats being poor and homeless during the lesson. Which was extremely inappropriate for a driving lesson. This same instructor also while I was turning, grabbed my wheel to turn it intensely (she stated that she didn't want to return the car scratched).Both instructors also told me that I needed to drive with other people and practice, even thought the reason I paid the $550 was because I didn't have any one else to teach me. All in all, I feel as if I don't even know the basic laws of the roads, extremely unprepared for my behind the wheels test, and am so disappointed in this company for being a complete waste of peoples time. read more

Davis Academy Driving School is unprofessional, unreliable, unresponsive, and the worst driving school one could choose. If I could rate them with zero stars, I would. After receiving not one, but two confirmation calls this week for my appointment, my instructor called and informed me that I could keep today's appointment although she would be 30 minutes to an hour late, or reschedule altogether. I called back and confirmed that I was still available as I had arranged my entire day around this appointment and let her know how I was displeased and found their service to be very unprofessional. I can't believe all these bad reviews! I had a very positive experience with Davis Academy Driving School. Maybe I'm the exception that proves the rule, but I can honestly say I am extremely satisfied with their service. It IS pretty difficult to call and get someone on the phone right away (hence only four stars), but they always call you back if they see they missed you. I also received reminders for my driving lessons the day before, and my instructor would call me as she was on her way to pick me up, which was helpful. As for the driving itself, it couldn't have gone more smoothly! Monica is an excellent, highly experienced instructor. She took me all around town, on the freeway, and through the DMV test routes, and I never felt nervous or panicked about any of the maneuvers. Even though I made a few mistakes, she was very encouraging and only gave me constructive criticism, nothing that would hurt my confidence too much. After 6 hours of lessons together, Monica went with me to my driving test and I passed with flying colors! So if you're looking for an experienced AND supportive instructor, ask for her. Overall: Davis Academy Driving School definitely has my stamp of approval. read more

The first session was with an instructor that called me 15 minutes before she was to pick up my child and said she had no air conditioning in her car and wanted to postpone the appointment. The second appointment the instructor called 15 minutes before the appointment again and said she was in the bay area and could not make it on time. I called the office to complain and I was treated rudely and they sent a replacement instructor who was rude to my child as if this were all my child's fault. I have called and left messages 3 days in a row during hours of operation to schedule the last appointment and I can't get a hold of anyone and they are not calling me back. DO not waste your money on this driving school. They do not seem to care about doing their job or helping kids pass their test. read more

All my family members and friends have driven with this school and we have all loved it! Their instructors are very nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. They give plenty of tips and pointers that are helpful for passing the test and driving safely and they stay informed on new laws and make you aware of them. My friends and family that went to this school all passed their driving test and I myself scored a perfect score on the written exam. Who ever answered the phone needs to be fired. They put my son (15yrs old) on hold three times and had him on hold each time for 5 minutes. On top of that she was rude and how could you be rude to a 15 yr old kid excited about learning how to drive.
