Looking for fun, free or cheap things to do around the Sacramento area. This would be a hit for little ones. Very educational. Didnt speak to anyone however at this place. The owls are usually asleep of course during open hours but other birds are pretty active.

What a hidden gem! Absolutely a fun place to go for all ages. I went for their biannual open house. Super cool to see all the birds and hear about them from the volunteers. There is a lot to see and several interactive exhibits for the kids. I just wish there was a little more space in the enclosures for the birds.

This is a gem in Davis please go and support. It's free but donations are greatly appreciated since they are a non profit & help raptors that can't be released and it's all free, they have merch too, 10/10 I recommend peoples come down, lots to look and get to learn about these beautiful animals a cute date spot or to bring children to have a free and interesting trip

Awesome spot!!! Hidden gem in Davis!! This is a great place to take your friends and family to see owls, raptors, eagles, and turkey vultures. The center serves as a clinic for rehabilitating wild raptors, and only hosts those they cannot release into the wild. Lots of information and kid-friendly activities, and a self-guided tour is available for all. Come check it out!!!

It's not a museum and it's not large... Check it out! I don't know if another raptor center run by volunteers- do you? You'll probably never get close enough to these amazing birds to really SEE them... they move fast, aerial athletes, often flying high or swooping at night. Hawks , eagles, owls are so amazing! Make sure to check out the visitor center, to learn more. The birds here have been injured and have recovered due to the treatment and care of the kind and skilled staff. UC Davis has a veterinary college with devoted students that help too! This place is able to save these birds - and though they cannot fly, they are well cared for. Stop by the Golden Eagle enclosures at the start of the tour- they are HUGE!! I had no idea, and there are two of them... they look fierce and strong with talons that are bigger than my hands. As I said, it's not a huge center but thee are many raptors from small to gigantic to view! The enclosures for each bird are outside- bring a coat or umbrella , so you can enjoy a rainy day. No cost! You can donate- the birds thank you!!

The CRC in Davis has many species of hawks, eagles, falcons, owls, and vultures that are native to California. They're kept in large outdoor cages. Most of the birds have been injured and are recovering. Some will be released to the wild soon, but most are "lifers" who'll remain at the center for research and education. Recently the center has has had significantly fewer birds than in the past. Coming here as a visitor is a very hit-or-miss proposition. The center is run for the benefit of the animals and the students who study them, not for educating the general public about these amazing and important species of wildlife. There are very few "ranger talks" and they're not well advertised. Most staffers avoid answering questions, stating that it's not their job or they're too busy. It's really ironic that this happens at a center sponsored by a public university, as I've been to privately funded bird centers that take a much stronger approach toward involving the actual public. That said, there have been a small number of vets and trainers I've met at the center who really do embrace talking to the public. These few individuals have spent quality time with me to answer questions about the birds in their care, generally with the bird in question perched right there on their arm. These were memorable experiences for me. If they were the rule rather than the exception I'd give the CRC 5 stars but alas, they are the exceptions.

If you've ever been curious about Raptors - or have already fallen under their spell - you should visit the California Raptor Center at UC Davis. Not only do they educate the general public about raptors, but they also rehabilitate injured raptors. They have one of the highest rates of raptor rehabilitation in the country. The birds that stay on grounds after rehabilitation are ones that aren't able to be released back into the wild. It's well worth the trip.

Also available are lectures on tea and last night I sat through a presentation titled "Chinese Flavors--Dining in China: Etiquette and Beyond." Having grown up one half Chinese, some of the teachings of stereotypes of the Chinese were confirmations of what actually happens. For instance, the part of dining out when the bill comes was almost verbatim what comes out of the mouths where I've eaten. The lectures are informative enough that I'm going to continue to attend them. At one workshop I was taught about steamed bao, including the tasty parts where I assembled and ate them. I look forward to sitting in on a tea lecture, as that's been (and still is) a huge part of dining out. My grandparents have been desensitized to my American methods of eating Chinese food, but I learned that even though quite effective, one should not stab his/her food with chopsticks in order to obtain it. And resting your chopsticks on the plate is a no-no as well. They go where a fork would go, on a rest if available. Overall, I find these lectures to be more interesting than anything else because I learn a fair amount about why I've done what I've done for the last 36 years as well as some of the reasons behind those actions. Next up: tea.

I encounter nice people, very little bad language, especially considering it usually a town of young people, lots of interesting restaurants and stores, easy distance from Sacramento and San Francisco, good theater and concert venues, several movie theaters for such a small town, a good selection of motels, car rentals and basic amenities. The weather gets pretty hot in the summer but now in June it's just perfect to me. Lake Tahoe and Reno are not that far, there are small shopping centers in town and larger ones within a half hour drive. And it's a really pretty town to drive around in. While I didn't adore all of them, the instruction was top-notch, and I knew I could rely on the tools they gave me. Another important aspect of education for me was ethics, and the school imbued us with a strong grounding in treating bodywork as a profession and encouraging us to put client care first.
