Artist unprepared and weak line work left my tattoo patchy and not what I wanted…read more I went into the shop on Friday and sent him the photo that same day so he could prepare the stencil. I came back on Sunday, and he told me he hadn't prepared it and asked me to return on Tuesday. When I came in on Tuesday, the stencil still wasn't ready, but we tattooed the parts that worked. He said he would draw the rest by hand because the stencil wasn't laying correctly on my fingers. Over the next three weeks, the original work healed, and I noticed some of the lines were faint. We scheduled another appointment to finish the fingers and fix the patchiness. When I arrived on Monday, the stencils he drew still didn't work. I ended up having him do some dots on my fingers, and I asked him to fix the line work, but I can still see faded lines. Overall: my tattoo is not horrible. I can live with the fingers not working out, I can't with the shotty line work.

The studio is cozy and clean and close to all the best parts of Broad Ripple (so I could treat myself to a new plant at Snakeroot and a beer or three at the Alley Cat after my appointments). When the day of my appointment came, I'm not gonna lie--I was nervous. I'd chosen to go all-in with a large first piece, and I was unsure how I'd react to the new environment (though I was also really excited because of how awesome the artwork was). Cass was great at explaining the process and made me immediately feel comfortable and welcomed. She continued to be communicative and gentle throughout the process, and we took breaks as needed. (It didn't hurt nearly as much as I'd always imagined it would; though I also chose a less painful area to start with, fwiw.) All this so far would have gotten a 5-star review from me. Had that been my entire experience, I still would have been completely satisfied. However, I was also lucky enough to be there on a day when two other artists--Johnny and Micah--were in, and both of them were awesome enough to chat with me about all kinds of random things we all had in common, and it totally made the experience above and beyond. Which is weird and not recommended from what I read everywhere. but I healed okay so I didn't question it. this was around 12 years ago. then about 3-4 years ago, I called and asked if I could come in to speak to someone for a consult for a tattoo, and was just told they do walk ins for that, so I did that right after. I went in and there were like 8 guys laughing at something and didn't talk to me or pay attention that I was there even though they could see me. I asked one guy, like hey how are yall doing can I discuss scheduling a consult or do one now? the guy said ok, and I showed him my design ideas and he said ok here is my number, text me and I will see if I can soon. so I call the day he said to and get ghosted. I wait a bit longer and still no answer. finally texted me like 2 weeks later and he said oh I forgot. I asked if we could schedule or see another artist, but he didn't text me after that. so yeah, it was weird. I am sure they have good people there, but since it seemed like they didn't want my money, I haven't been back. this was going to be 4 by 3 inch black line drawing. I feel like this was very simple, but I don't do tattoos, so i don't know for sure. But when I got eventually this tattoo at another studio it took about 40 minutes and that was with color and more intricate. I'm not saying they don't have good employees there, just confused by my experience.
