Food was hot and fresh, service was reasonable considering the volume of people who come!

We have been coming here for about 5 years. We love their deal on steamer clams. They have hot foods to go, frozen foods, and fresh food in the case. The employees are really nice, and helpful. They can get pretty busy on Fridays, due to their fish fries. They are good. Good seafood has been difficult to find here in Rochester. But Davies has hit the mark for several years now, and if they clean it up, I will definitely plan to be back. We were there today for lunch. We ordered a fried clam strip dinner, and small lobster bisque. They called my name, bagged it up, and I was out the door. When I returned home, we found a fish fry in our bag, and not fried clam strips. We were not going to drive back and return it, so we split it and ate it. Disappointed is an understatement, not to mention I was kicking myself for not checking. The fish was good, French fries soggy, Mac salad, was fresh. Unfortunately, they added the Mac salad to the same container as the hot food. Be prepared for some of it to be cold and some hot, Mac salad on the soggy fries, etc.... I noticed today, The floor was sticky, and felt gross. The restaurant also smelled different, not sure why, it's hot or miss with seafood places. They were gearing up for their Friday fish fry's when we went in. We landed on the Friend clan strips because a friend recommended them to us. We were really looking forward to trying something new. Needless to say we were disappointed that we ended up with the fish fry, but at least we knew it would be good. The lobster bisque tasted sour, and we threw it away. The whole experience was disappointing, and subpar, compared to our usual experience. Which has not been our usual. However, since the start of spring we have been in 3 times, and all 3 times, were turned off with cleanliness issues. The sticky floor and wrong order, was kind of the camels straw. We went last week too, I was looking for specific fresh seafood to make Lobster Newberg with. The Haddock is always fresh, I also asked for scallops, and shrimp. I took the last of their shrimp, and to my surprise when she told someone the shrimp bin was empty, they took a bag out of the freezer, and added it. I was surprised, I thought that was always fresh, and not frozen, not the other way around. I also noticed that the man who handled the scallops was not wearing gloves, and after he went and handled something else. These cross contamination issues, sour soup, and sticky floors, is not usual for them, and my BF and I decided we will look for another place until they clean it up. read more

This was a WASTE of time and our money. We ordered 2 fish dinner the fish with fries and salad. The fish was fried so long it was like a rock. The fries was fried with old oil they tasted terrible. We will NEVER go back again. Save your money don't spend your money at this location. read more

Used to go here years ago maybe 1x a month. It was our go to for a delicious fish fry. Because we moved it is a long drive. Yesterday was in area thought yummy let me go get dinner. Have my grandson try it. First off, they forgot my soup. No big deal. But considering there was only 3 of us customers I would have thought no mistakes would be made. The lines used to be out the door on a Friday. That should have been my first clue. Fish was ok not excellent like it used to be. But the coleslaw, potato salad and mac salad YUCK. Disgusting. The owners Son is not very Hygienic when obtaining coleslaw he uses his hands and not a utensils on some occasion. The Son is also a class A jerk, The fish dinners are a hit or miss for being Fresh, after obtaining 4 spoil Friday fish dinners I decided enough is enough. Saw other reviews say it was a good place to go for fried seafood dinners. Nice to try out this Ma and Pa shop. We tried their fried seafood platter which came with fries and coleslaw. We also ordered a side of fried cauliflower. Food came out quick and hot but nothing to write home about. Felt the batter was over done, thick and hard where you couldn't even taste the seafood. The only thing we really liked out of the seafood platter was the fried fish and fries. Possibly just stick with their fish fry dinners next time. We also saw they were also selling grocery items in their store and saw that a bread that they were selling from Wegmans had already expired, not a good sign! read more

I have been going to Davies for-years, quality greatly diminished . 2 of last 3 times going, wasn't happy. got a Scallop dinner which had way too many soggy fries and 9 mushy oily Scallops. which is quite pricy! i would have taken it back but the place was a mob scene as usual and for what anymore i have no idea. ill go to kitnos on North Clinton ave even though i live of Stone road.Better prices, better service and better food. read more

We are local...like right around the corner local. Known this joint for yrs as a sh!te hole. Havn't been in there in years. Tonight we say hey lets give davies another shot. (new ownership we heard). Any way..we try to call..nobody answers. We say ayyy they must be busy. Good sign right ? We call back...guy answered the phone seemingly angry. Rudely tells wifey that they dont take calls after 3 pm...lol Huh ? But then after wifes kind of stunned silence...says just come in we'll take care of ya as an attempted recover from his rudeness. We get it..the fryers are hopping for the guy. You're too cool for phones. Anyway.... Yea...that's what we are going to do...come and get stuck to the floor (as another recent reviewer states. pretty sure he's accurate knowing this place) after we've been turned off, and stand around and wait a half hour when they could easily have taken a call ahead. IDK what kind of dope is running the show now but i'm pretty sure it's being run the same as always. Anyway...make what you will of the review...but we won't be seeing them again. Place Always seems to rub me wrong. Everytime I go in the store he over charges me. So today I watched him. He purposely overcharged me .75 over for my fish diinner. $16.95. Davies Hasselhoff, Davies Letterman and Davies Duchovny own this place. They showed me their licenses so I know it was really them. What do you mean those aren't real names? Damnit. I knew there was something fishy about those guys. :( What to get: Fish Sandwich What else: Fish Fry What else though: I dunno man stop f***ing badgering me already. The only thing I've had from Davies was an unbelievably cheap (less than $5), juicy, delicious, generous-sized fish sandwich, with excellent tartar sauce slathered all over wonderfully juicy golden fried haddock (I think, or was it cod or tilapia, I'll have to find out), on a traditional Rochester sandwich roll (probably from Martusciello's). It was definitely a 5/5 sandwich. It wasn't on the same level as my fave fish sandwich on earth, which is the remarkable Bailey Seafood Super Haddock Sandwich in Buffalo for around $7, but then nothing is. As far as fish sandwiches other than that go, this is one of the best ones I've ever had. Also the kid working here was delightful. He was happy to serve, friendly, helpful, and extremely personable. Some of the best service I've had in Rochester. Granted I was the only one in here, but it was nearly closing and he couldn't have been any nicer. And Starlight loves it too. I give this a 5 star for the peaches! During the summer time they have the best peaches in town. For dirt cheap at that. I hate going to the store and getting peaches to have to wait weeks to enjoy them to find out they are dry and taste awful. My wife was craving hush puppies and while I was waiting on a busy Friday night I noticed they have peaches 4/$1. I was so shocked at the price I didn't expect much. I ate one when I got home and wanted more. Next week they threw in an extra for the same price. I love seafood and have never had it here. I'm the worst. Side note they can get busy on Friday nights. I called ahead to see what they deal was during the pandemic. They let me know they have a plan in place (nope) and they dont take orders over the phone. I braved the world and went out for their seafood dinner. I will break this review in to the good and the bad. I will begin with the good. Davies seafood was delicious. I have no idea how it's been this long and I've never even heard of it before. It's a small little deli and you can order seafood, I saw wing dings salads etc. This is a pretty anxious time in life so I couldnt get a full view of their menu. I struggled to find it online but I was able to find a preview. Honestly just go in, you will not be disappointed. I ordered the seafood dinner that came with 2 pieces of fish, scallops and shrimp. Everything was just amazing. You can also ordered 2 sides. I ordered the seafood salad. Everything was wonderful but the seafood salad was out of this world, I could eat it by the bowl full. I also ordered fries as a panic move. I read prior that they fries weren't that great and they lived up to that standard. Not flavorful, nothing. I will say the next day I made them in to poutine and they were great. I will never get the fries again. They also had a million other apps on their menu I wanted to try but it was crazy inside and I just wanted out. I will be going back here for sure. Now for the bad. Davies let me know they had a plan in place. I mean I guess there were stickers on the floor for social distancing. People stuck to that for the most part. The stickers only go to the counter and the workers were calling multiple people up at a time, lack of social distancing. Then there isnt a real plan for how to get to the counter to the cashier. It's just a hodge podge of people in life, at the counter and at the checkout. By the time I left the line was out the door and it seemed like just too many people and no real structure or plan in place. I know these rules are just beginning so I'm hoping that davies can continue to figure out their plan and keep the food good and their customers first. This is probably the only reason the 1 star was gone. I did have to tell them to cash me out because no one was paying attention so maybe that's why I took the star away. read more

On Friday July 18th I went to Davies Sea Food on Stone Rd to get a fish fry. The reason I went was it got a high rating in the D&C Fish Fry contest. I got there about 4:20, the very first thing I noticed was my feet stuck to the floor. Which means it hasn't been cleaned in a while. I ordered the sea food combo, I chose haddock, shrimp and scallops. You also go two sides I got French fries and coleslaw cost $22.00. In less than 2 mins. I got my order which means it was precooked. When I opened the Styrofoam box there was very large portions, enough for two people. The food was room temperature at best. The shrimp was OK not great, scallops were inedible, cool and very mushy. The Haddock only came breaded and when you cut it fell apart nothing firm about this fish at all. The fries were like rubber and cool not good. The best thing about this meal was the coleslaw very good. This was my first and last time to eat anything from here. I do not recommend this place to anyone. How it even made the list is beyond me. -1 rating read more

I have been going here for years. My order today and it is not what it has been in the past. The some of the food tasted spoiled, the order was cold . So I called and explained about part being spoiled. Was told that their food is fresh daily and no one else has complained. It doesn't matter if anyone else complained, it still tasted spoiled. My tactics walk in get a ticket check number being served board sit down play with my phone check number serving sign periodically. Meh. Meh, meh, meh-y meh. Nothing about this fish fry is good except portion for the price. The breading isn't crisp, and I'll offer up my own predilection for a beer battered solid crispy fish fry, the way these things should be. The fish I got that day was borderline mealy. It doesnt break into clean flakes like the fish you get at Kithnos (and if Kithnos could season the batter like Davies we'd be halfway to something). Coleslaw meh, fries meh. The fish IS huge and the batter is seasoned, but you get not enough of those tiny containers of kraft tartar sauce, which come on, is **bottom of the barrel** tartar sauce. The way I feel about all the glowing reviews of this place is the same way I feel about that ice cream place Lugia's. There is nothing spectacular about the quality of the items produced, just giant portions. They won Rochester ROCs serving just huge portions of Perry's ice cream, over the much superior quality of other places. And for the reviewers of WHEC10's Rochester Rocs, giving people a ton of mediocre food for a cheap price is the way to win. I made my husband drive, and wait, all the way out here to try this fish fry, and it was a waste of money. You can give me the largest portions of subpar french fries in the world and I'm not going to eat them. So we wanted some seafood Friday night! Read the reviews on this place. Many five star reviews. Cleverly written witticism from someone who must eat out everyday day of his life. Really? So here goes. Got there, very busy on Friday night. Ordered the large lobster bisque and the fish fry which is supposed to be the best in Rochester! The gal who waited on me took about 5 to 7 minutes maybe longer to find the containers for the soup. Meanwhile the order was processed for the fish fry! It sat there! And sat there! This is take out for the most part! Probably 10 people were served while I waited. So the soup is poured and the styrofoam container comes up! I could feel it was already lukewarm to cold! The "cashier" charges me two + dollars more than it should be!! All done in his "head"! Maybe using the new math of Common Core! I challenged him having been taught by the good nuns that 10 + 7 is NOT almost $20 even with the look for the union label New York taxes included. Bill was adjusted! Hmmm. 10% on say 20 new customers a day extra! Not a bad gig! Let's say it was an honest mistake! Soooo, the food goes home!!! Only a few miles. Although the temperature was moderate the food was basically cold upon arrival. I hadn't seen any of the food yet! I thought the lobster bisque was good even though it had no chunks of lobster or facsimile thereof. My significant other did not like it at all. No bread or crackers. Just the soup. The fish fry consisted of a very generous portion of white fish! It was deep fried and was not crisp at all when we ate it! It was tasty and we enjoyed it hence the three stars. That was served with two 1/2 oz containers of Kraft tartar sauce! C'mon guys! Five stars! Get real!!!! The sides were coleslaw (decent but doesn't get bragging rights even in Rochester and a generous portion of deep fried frozen crinkle cut fries. The kind you get at Wally World for $6 for five pounds or at any wholesaler like Sysco for even less in 10 pound bags. The prices were fair and reasonable after the adjustment! Home in Rochester for a visit on Friday and decided to visit Davies. I almost didn't, worried about their ability to deal with the crowds in the midst of the pandemic. It was fine... doors open, good ventilation and traffic flow was ok. The line to order was well spaced marked and organized. The part between ordering and paying was a little less organized but people were being careful and most had masks worn properly. Staff was hustling and the food was very good as usual.
