DO NOT GO HERE FOR SERIOUS HAIRCUTS! David cut my husband Philip's hair WAY too short right before our wedding day, despite my husband showing him a picture of exactly what he wanted. Philip went back to show him and he agreed it was too short, even though the dye job (covering his gray hairs) was fine. We were left scrambling on the wedding day to find a solution for his hair cut too short. We ended up using my brow gel to fill in Philip's side burns to create an illusion. But I will never forget how much stress this man gave me right before our wedding. He offered my husband a free haircut or dye job afterwards. BUT my husband did not follow up until a few months later, and now he is saying he would only discount it, NO free service as originally promised. I've included a screenshot of the original review I posted two days before my wedding with him promising a FREE service. We took down the review because my husband wanted to be nice to the business because of this. David claims my husband was happy, though we all agreed the sideburns were too short. Extremely disappointed in this business and lack of professionalism. read more

I went to David's while interning in D.C. and could not have been more happy with my haircut. He is very detail oriented and precise in creating the look you want. I would definitely go back when back in the area. read more

I have fairly long, curly hair and am never satisfied with my haircuts, but David did a great job!! He knew what would look good for my hair type and I ended up with the best haircut I've ever had. Washed, cut, and styled for ~$60 so good value too. I won't be going anywhere else while I'm in DC. I just had to add some of my own product when I got home because my hair tends to look dry. read more

Best hair salon in downtown DC! David knows everything about hair. Best price too, specially for GW and Georgetown students. Thank you David for a great hair cut!!! read more

Do not go here, David gave me the "french cut" despite me asking very clearly for him to just cut an inch off. He does not listen and now my hair is much much shorter than I wanted. Better off cutting your own in hair in the mirror with the lights off. read more

If your a guy stay away from this place. Showed them a photo they said they could do it, that didn't happen. They hacked away most of my hair with thinning shears and then proceeded to do the rest of the job with clippers. Very disappointed read more

I am genuinely angry at what happened. I asked him for one inch off, and then he went ahead and took nearly four inches off. I am very disappointed in what happened, I even tried to stop him from taking more off several times during the haircut, but he didn't listen to me and continued to cut more and more off. After I told him that my hair was shorter than I like, but he told me that it was because my hair is so thick and long, rather than taking responsibility for it read more

I have been going to David for over 25 years. I trust him wholeheartedly. He is talented and brings out the best in everyone!! read more

This place is not it. I came in looking to get a haircut after work (end of the day) and was told I could get seated early. I mentioned I wanted my hair layered and styled. That is it. By the time I got my haircut one side above the ear was shaved higher than the other. The guy really just wanted his money and a cigarette break...look I don't mind going somewhere else to get the haircut. I do mind having my haircut just to boost your own profits and revenue. If you have hair you're looking to get styled. Don't go here. Came in with soft hair - left looking like a jar headed Marine. read more

Terrible barber. David cut my hair while dry which meant a whole lot of uncomfortable tugging. He totally ignored all my instructions, delivered a sloppy haircut, and was constantly stopping to speak on the phone. He took two inches off the top despite my telling him that I don't want him to touch the top of my head, and my sides which I did ask him to cut are not even! I even offered to show him a photo of the cut I was looking for but he refused and assured me he knew what I meant. He clearly did not. This is one of the worst haircuts I've ever received and David's inattention to detail and my instructions is absurd. Never setting foot in his salon again. read more

David does not give quality haircuts. First, the "deep conditioning" that was a part of my KGB deal was just a typical shampoo and condition, which took all of 10 minutes. Next, David asked what I wanted. My simple request was to trip my ends and reshape my bangs that were grown out. He proceeded to trim an inch then CHOP my bangs. Long swooping bangs like I had asked for? I think not. The nice thing about him not taking as long as he probably should have dedicated is that the pain was finally over. David simply pushing and pulls your head where he needs it. And his abusive combing is just uncalled for. Finally, he blow dried my hair. Too bad he wasn't aware or didn't care that he kept pointing the dryer directly into my ears. When he turned me around saying he was done, I saw a girl headed to junior-high prom. I had not seen wings like that in about a decade! All of this could have added up to a bad but funny story. But, David crossed the line when he demanded I pay $10 extra for "long hair". ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? My hair is barely past my shoulders, he did not use a SINGLE product on my hair (thank God given the styling), and gave me what should have been a simple trim. As I protested, he explained he only did the KGB deal to bring in different clientele. Perhaps, David should work on providing good customer service and improve his skills. Until then, I suggest avoiding this place like the plague. read more

Dominique from Tresses Salon is now here. Originally, I was really bummed out when I found out that Dominique from Tresses Salon had left, and I couldn't get her contact info or new location. She has been cutting my hair for 3 years now. Fortunately, I was able to find out that she had move to David's Hair Studio! read more

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE David, the most amazing hair stylist and the only person I will trust my hair with! I've been to many stylists in my life, but can never find one that is as great as David. His manner is very inviting and warm, and his advice always takes me out of my comfort zone and into a little riskier part of my life. I take his advice and am always glad that I do. My hair comes out complementing the shape of my face and looks shiny and feels smooth. Well worth the money! Can't wait to come back to experience the David's magic. read more

Today I found out that my hairdresser has retired. Ms. Kim was awesome and very professional. David had me come by that same day and took care of me. Just a plain haircut, blow dry & style. He did an amazing job, and I trust him and love this place. It's so hard now a days to find great and friendly people who take pride in their (art)work. Very professional. I am extremely happy and satisfied with his work. I don't have to look any further. I will be coming here until they shut down :) read more

This was the first time I went there and only b/c I had bought the KGB deals. So when I got to the studio, David was the the only one there with 4 people waiting. 1. My appointment was for 6pm but he did not get to me till 7:15. 2. My deal that I had purchased included a deep conditioning which apparently meant that he would wash my hair and leave conditioner in it for about 45 secs. 3. Then he went to cut my hair and finished in about 15 mins. Keep in mind that I'm a female with long hair and wanted several things done to it but he never gave me a chance to tell him. 4. He blow dried it but did not even really style it (which was included in the deal). He left it frizzy, but dry, and sent me on my way. 4. When I went to pay...he charged me $15 extra for having long hair. Why would you not tell me that before you cut my hair when I told you I was here b/c of the online deal!! David was very friendly and the haircut was pretty average but I felt ripped off and would definitely not go back. read more

NEVER again. :( I learned about this studio from a voucher online. I was excited to try someone new in DC, but not again. When I first called, the woman who answered the phone noted she could not understand much English and hung up on me(TWICE). I thought that maybe it was a rough day, and decided to still try the salon. After I arrived, I received my "deep conditioning" treatment that was supposed to last 5 minutes (per the stylist). However, I was able to time that she had it on for less than a minute. After washing my hair, the stylist was asked to only cut my bangs. He said that would not be a problem. However, after he started cutting my bangs, he looked at other sections of my hair that he thought he "wanted to cut" too without asking my permission. I had just had my hair cut a few days prior and did not want another. As I asked him to not continue, he had already cut off a section that made the rest of my hair uneven. I have been to beauty schools that are more professional and willing to listen to their customer. I will now have to either wait for my hair to grow longer or have someone repair the poorly cut layers. As I was leaving, the stylist also noted that they would charge extra for the cut (that I asked not to get), even though it was not advertised in the original deal. I rarely leave bad reviews, but would hate to hear that someone else had to go through this. This was such a disappointment! read more

Just went here for the first time...as a chick, I am used to going to salons full of women so I was a little surprised when I walked in and it was mostly men, but man, David knew how to cut my hair! I rate his cut as highly as any other high-price salon I went to. AND next time, I can go with my boyfriend for some quality time (and a quality hair cut). I will be going back! read more

In my opinion, David gives the best mens haircut in DC. While his salon is not much, David is phenomenal. He takes his time, is funny, and just knows how to cut hair well. I have had other hair stylists ask where I got my haircut, because so much detail was put into it. read more

My experience at David's was fantastic! You could tell he's been doing this a long time - he's professional, confident, kind, and most importantly, my hair turned out wonderfully. I came in with an idea of what I wanted - I have dark brown hair and wanted blond highlights for a lighter look, but was concerned that it would turn out looking unnatural or streaky. David understood my concern and immediately had a plan for how to do it right. My hair actually turned out better than the hair in the reference pictures I showed him! Also, in terms of customer service, he's wonderful. I needed to change the time of my original appointment and he was totally flexible and understanding. And when I was in the chair, he held the perfect amount of conversation. Not too much that I felt exhausted from all the chatter, and not too little that it was just silent for an hour and a half between us. AND pricing was reasonable. He's perfect. I will 100% come back to him. In fact, I wish I did my hair more often so that I could go to him more! I highly recommend him. read more

I'm easy to please so while I was amused by the whole experience, others might not be. The studio and David seem be more tailored to male haircuts, but I could be wrong. David never asked details about what I wanted beyond how many inches to cut off... but miraculously it didn't turn out too bad! Shorter than I would have liked. Not cut according to the part I wear. No discussion about side bangs and the front. But hey, I have had much much worse things happen to my long curly hair. He used close to no products, didn't use a diffuser to blow dry, and kind of just tossed my hair around like a child playing with his mother's hair... but it turned out fine and was very quick. Getting to talk to David and having an ancient French guy come in to complement my hair- that made it less meh and more A-ok. I don't think it's worth the money for an regular cut for long hair. I had a Groupon and cant afford to go back for mediocre service. Back to Bubbles for me! read more

I came here for Dominique after a disastrous hair color job at Tresses salon. Dominique used to work there and I always went to her but the last time I went, they told me she had retired (which was a lie). I found out she is now at David's Hair Studio and showed up begging her to fix my hair. She booked me for an appointment the next day. It still didn't come out the way it always does, but she did her best to fix the worst dye job I've ever had and it now looks presentable. read more

David is just simply wonderful! He has been cutting my hair since 1985 and I have never wanted anyone else to do it. I need easy to care for hair and that's what David had always done! Stay the hell away! David - French Guy - is a crook! He absolutely butchered my hair. I wanted a trim and I got a buzz cut. He started cutting my hair without even asking me what I wanted. He screwed it up so many times that will each fixing alternation I wound up with practically no hair. Because there were customers waiting I paid and told him I would be in contact regarding a refund so to avoid a fuss there and then and he agreed he would compensate me. Every time I left an email or phone message he ignored it and when I got him on the phone he started saying he had never given a bad haircut. He then said he would send a check out. 2 weeks later - nothing. Contacted him again and he said that he had sent it and 'someone' had cashed it which was crap. I said he had not as I was the only one who could of cashed it and he said he was not going to send another and I was trying to rob him. He then told me he had dealt with my kind before while living in Europe. I asked him what 'my kind' was and he replied 'British' and slammed the phone down. I called back and said I would drop by to pick up my check and he said if I did he would call the police. By this point I reported him to the Better Business Bureau. They got back to me a short while to say he had not even bothered acknowledging their requests for contact. He is now blacklisted on their records. STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS GUY!!!! read more

David didn't listen to anything that I said about what I wanted, and instead just gave me the generic "DC guy" haircut I was trying to avoid. I'd been growing my hair out for 6 months and told him that I wanted it long and liked it long. His first cut took 4 inches off and there was nothing I could do after that. I'm seriously so frustrated. May as well have just gone to SuperCuts. read more

So I have to admit that my first time at David's Hair Studio was to see my long time hair stylist (he just started at David's), but I just had to share how great Volkan is. He's been cutting my hair for years! Even when I was living in other cities, I dabbled in letting others cut my hair out of convenience and it was never up to snuff. I kept my hair long for several years and his haircuts always grew out fabulously. It's not like with other hair dressers that pressure you to come back in within two months or to any additional treatments you don't need. This last time I saw him, I actually let him cut my hair short and I've been getting compliments ever since! You can trust what he tells you because he'll let you know which styles suit you and which ones don't. Every friend I've referred to him has become a regular--long hair, short hair, curly hair--you can't go wrong with him! read more

David has been cutting my hair since the week before my wedding in 1985. Almost thirty years and he's adapted perfectly to my thinning hair and changes in style.
