Ryan is a true artist and I receive compliments from other stylists who check-out my hair and praise the work Ryan has done. He has been my go-to for haircuts, hair coloring, and hair styling for the past 7 years, when I moved to DC. Not only is he an artist, but he also offers very reasonable prices for the great work he does. His attention to detail and focus on perfection is unparalleled. Due to COVID I saw Ryan only once in 2020, vs every-other 6 weeks in previous years. However, he is very cautious and uses gloves, changing them often during the entire process. He wears a mask (as did I), a shield, and countless gloves. He has taken every measure of precaution you can imagine and think of and the experience is as safe as it can possibly be under the circumstances. I would not go here if you'd like for your time to be respected. I've gone to Ryan for several years and even recommended him to friends. I had an appointment scheduled for 1:30pm today and was asked if I could push back my appointment. I said I could not and was then asked to cancel and reschedule because his other clients were running late today so I would likely have to wait. I took time off from work for the haircut and also had to carefully coordinate my work schedule and with my husband because our kids are home earlier than usual due to the upcoming holiday. As a working mom with 2 little kids, it's very difficult for me to make time for haircuts these days. This cancellation is very inconvenient and disappointing. I don't understand why I was asked to reschedule my time because other clients are running late. I'm now looking for another salon. Edited to add our actual exchange. Ryan seems to have a different recollection of our conversation, but to me this still looks like he asked me to reschedule or cancel because I couldn't change my schedule 3 hours before the appointment (which was not enough notice for me to change my schedule because of work meetings and school/daycare pickups). read more

I love this place, and I highly recommend Amanda Walyun, but all of the stylists seem knowledgeable and super nice. Ryan gave me an awesome haircut. I hadn't gotten my hair cut in almost two years, and it wasn't in great shape--heavy, dry, way too long, Ryan listened to what I wanted and executed perfectly (long layers, curtain bangs, textured ends). He checked multiple times to make sure we were on the same page about length and layers, which I really appreciated. And he was SO nice!! I definitely will be back. After my old stylist had a health emergency, I was left looking for someone new to cut my hair. Even as a child it was always a pain to find someone to cut my hair properly since my hair is pretty difficult. I decided to give Ryan a shot at the Last Tangle, which was by far the best decision I made. I thought I wasn't being clear and just talking like a crazy person when I was telling him about my hair, what I liked, and all my bad experiences in the past. He somehow understood me beyond my craziness, and nailed it the first time I sat in his chair. He somehow makes this mess on my head look better every time I come see him. Ryan is the sweetest, kindest, easy to talk to, and best stylist around. He listens to everything you have to say, and has a very calming way about him that will put you right at ease. My hair needs are simple and yet I haven't had a haircut I've liked in probably never until I found Ryan, which was by googling random hair salons in DC. I feel that he listens to what I want and makes suggestions based on what I tell him AND what he thinks would work for me. At this point in my life, I know what general style works for me and I'm realistic about the amount of work I'm willing to commit to my hair but I also want a stylist who can steer me towards a new style when I'm ready or improve on a previous cut. Ryan is clearly a skilled stylist but more importantly, he stays current and has great style so I trust that he will never give me an outdated cut or bad-for-my-face cut by accident. His new location at Capital Waxing Salon is super convenient (at Farragut North and a couple blocks from Farragut West) and the vibe of the salon is very chill. Everyone there is very nice and no one shouts at each other across the salon, which I hate. It's also not so busy that I get sweaty from all the hair dryers and bodies in there, which I also hate. This review is long overdue- but I highly recommend Ryan for all hair services! I have been having my haircut by Ryan for several years now and recently, hair color. My visits always end up being long overdue with my hair grown out and heavy but he is always able to make it feel fresh and light again. He listens to what I am looking for and gives great recommendations for what style/color complements my own face shape/natural hair color. He has taken great measures to maintaining safety of the salon including frequently wiping down the chairs and wearing a face shield in addition to requiring masks. Wow! It was a great day when Ryan was recommended to me by another stylist. I always have good intentions of getting a haircut every 6-8 weeks, but it never seems to happen. I am a loyal client of Ryan's for many reasons! When I moved to DC 5 years ago a friend referred him and I have trusted him with my cut and color since my first appointment. Over 2 years ago, I relocated to Georgia and could not bring myself to entrust anyone else to do the job. So, I jump on a flight to DC every 3-4 months to catch up with Ryan. He is amazing and passionate about his work and continues to make me look my best after each visit! Ryan is AMAZING! He is a hair wizard. I reached out to Ryan via text after I was upset with a balayage job by a stylist in another city that left my hair brassy orange, fried, and stripe-y. I was on a short timeline, because I wanted to get it fixed before I was in a wedding in a few weeks. Ryan responded almost immediately to make sure he understood what I wanted to accomplish and to talk me through what steps he could realistically take. He then went out of his way to fit me into his schedule for an in-person color consult. I came back a few weeks later for the color appointment, and I could NOT have been happier with the results! He took my roots back to their natural color and got ALL of the brassy orange and ALL of the stripes out of my hair without adding any more dye. Not to mention he threw in a complimentary blowout/styling. I could tell that he was paying attention to not doing anything that would damage my hair. I left with my hair looking more healthy than it had in years, and I have gotten *so* many compliments on the color since then. He has the expertise to make recommendations and is communicative and courteous throughout the whole process. He also listens to what you want and does just that (I've had some experiences in the past where stylists will cut off several inches when I've asked for just a 1/2 inch trim). I was referred by Ryan by my esthetician, who owns Capital Waxing and is fantastic, she spoke so highly of not only his skill as a hairdresser but his character as well. My hair was a mess with a very bad cut that was uneven and over processed color damage. I contacted Ryan and at the onset knew he was very professional because he wanted to schedule a consult to meet with me, listen to what I wanted and assess my hair to make recommendations. First off he identified he was an Olaplex salon so I was thrilled (if you're not aware of the in-salon treatment Olaplex offers when you color your hair to protect your hair from damage you should research it) but he just nailed the look I was going for, was honest about the condition of the cut and that it would be a work in progress to grow it out, keep it healthy and ultimately restore my hair and I really appreciated it. From there I scheduled the first service and it's history from there. Ryan has a fantastic style, extremely skilled with color, cutting and styling and I leave his chair loving my hair. Honestly I also believe that with Ryan's attention to my hair the overall quality has really improved. I'm over the top delighted to have found Ryan and will only have him work on my hair, honestly I think even if he relocated to another state I would follow him, I will say when I looked at Ryan's Yelp page and saw all of the beautiful young women with beautiful young hair I was first depressed but second concerned because, as I told Ryan, I am old (63) and it was so important for me to find someone who could reach across all ages and not just focus on the young.
