I went in last week for a routine cleaning and check-up and had a great experience like always, and Nancy is my favorite hygenist. I actually like getting my teeth cleaned now! Dr. Son filled a cavity 3 months ago and that went without a hitch as well, even though the cavity was deeper than expected. I like the fact that there is no big dental needle in this office, as I was always wary of it. The needleless numbing device Dr. Son uses is useful, and doesn't numb half your face which is great, but a few hours after my tooth was a little sore in the area around the gums. I can't speak for the skills of the dentist, but I can say that this dental office has no transparency when it comes to their fees. They will not give even a hint of what a basic extraction typically costs, or what the starting fees are for ozone and PRF, or anything else. I'm not asking for a quote for my own personal case, just an idea of the basics. I'm aware every patient has different needs, but to make me come in and pay $329 for an initial consultation before I am given any clue as to what their other fees might be is ridiculous. Dr. Son was an answer to a prayer for me. As I was traveling full time across the country, I experienced a major tooth ache and needed immediate attention. After visiting with 2 other local dentist in the San Clemente area, both of which highly recommended a root canal, Dr. Son saved the tooth by suggesting Ozone therapy. I have had a great experience under Dr. Son's care. I went to him with the purpose of having my amalgams and any other offending metal from my mouth. I have the experience to know how disruptive it is to your health to keep these in your mouth. His office and staff were a wonderful support with sending claims to my insurance. Don't get Ozone here. The doctor is just another greedy human. They want to X Ray your whole mouth in order to give you Ozone. CT scan is not good enough for him, and Panorama X Ray is not good enough for him. He MUST have individual X Ray in order to give you Oxygen just so you have more radiation for the fun of it. No transparency on their prices either, the discrepancy and politics are appalling just like any other conventional Doctor. Bio dentist is no special than any others, they're not more humane, or rational, they are just as money hungry and political. Get intravenous Ozone, maybe he will X Ray your whole body. They score 5 stars for everything: professionalism, atmosphere, quality of service, customer service, and just darn willingness to help. First, the important stuff. Dr. Son personally attended to me, unlike other dentists who pawn you off on their multitude of staff and only stare at your x-rays for 5 minutes. He had 3 or so other patients going on and as far as I could tell, he was spending a lot of time on all of them! The staff were all amazing. They were welcoming but not insincerely so, friendly and inquisitive, but not pushy, and professional and efficient. I did not wait at all and was promptly attended to as soon as I finished paperwork. I waited for Dr. Son for at the most, 5 minutes. I want to also give their very nice office manager an additional bonus. I filled out my paperwork in a separate side room where afterwards she asked some standard first-visit questions; I thought that was a very nice touch to put patients who need to fill out paperwork and answer questions in a separate room, rather than across the counter as most doctor's offices do. Not that I mind that, I just think this was a very nice and classy touch. It was that extra something that made me feel I was not just another patient swinging through the door. My consult, which was about growing jaw pain due to grinding, was lengthy and informative. Dr. Son went out of his way to explain to me the biomechanical reasons behind my pain and the methods of treating it. They even handled the billing part of it magnificently. Their office, which is out-of-network for me, was more than happy to call my insurance to check for me if the cost would be higher, lower, or the same in or out of network. (I would like to add that being paranoid and suspicious by nature I furtively called my insurance company to ask the same questions. The answers concurred perfectly) Lastly, and this may be a personal thing, I love the fact that I went through an entire visit without having 50 million things pawned on me. "Yes, I know my teeth are crooked no I don't want Invisalign." or "Yes, I know my teeth are a little on the yellow side, no I'm not interested in brightening." Overall, if you're looking for an Irvine dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Son and staff. I'm just sad they are out of network so I may not be able to continue with them (damn you American health care system!) but based on this amazing 1st visit, if my insurance ever changes, I'm there. read more

I called in the morning and was told to come right in. They took care of me immediately and spent the time needed to successfully complete their work. Also, I just received a cleaning and it was actually a pleasant experience. All of the nervousness I used to have about going to the dentist is gone! Dr. Son is the BEST, most committed to quality dentist I have ever had. He just removed all of the metal in my mouth and restored my teeth over four visits. I had my prior, non-biologic dentist in Newport Beach replace all of my amalgams a couple of years ago, but recent blood work came back showing high mercury. I thought maybe I had ingested some during the process, and I also saw that I had one amalgam filling left behind. I sought a biologic dentist to remove that one filling. Dr. Son's X-rays clearly showed remnants of amalgam in other teeth and also nickel in my crowns. I wanted it all out. He painstakingly removed all of the metal and restored my teeth, in a biologically safe way. Taking extra time and care, he also removed decay under long-time crowns and saved my teeth without damaging the root. He is thorough, loves teaching, too, and explained every step. He did nothing without my permission, and he was gentle throughout the process. He also has the latest equipment, including films to watch during extensive work, which truly eased the process. Amazing! I was looking last year for a holistic minded dentist for major work on my teeth. I am meticulous about seeing only the best medical practitioners. After hours and hours of searching and speaking to offices mainly in LA, I found Dr Son. His prices were much better than the holistic dentists in LA and his attention to detail and kind heart put me at ease. I literally almost fell asleep while having a crown put in, it was that pleasant. (I used the gas and the mouth piece that rests gently to keep mouth open while they work and act as a suction. It's a genius invention that I haven't seen at other offices I consulted with.) His office staff and assistants are top notch and the hygienist corrected me on several habits no other hygienist had addressed in detail which I know will save my teeth from future work. And I have been to many top dentist offices. I suggest getting in with them before they become to hard to get a new patient appt. I have been looking for a good holistic dentist for a while. I am selective and Dr. Son did come recommended to me. However, I am sad to say I had a terrible experience and am still feeling the pain in my mouth from it almost 4 months later. I was hesitant to write a negative review because I don't want to bash anyone but hope this will help someone else avoid a bad experienece...I was also hoping my issues would subside but they are still causing me trouble... There were several issues with the care I got...Here are the main problems I had: 1. Dr. Son insisted on too many Xrays for the circumstances (3 in a matter of 2 months), even when I told them my cancer history and weakened immunity. I said I only would agree to 1 Xray becuase I didn't want more radiation and they pressured me into more without asking my prior consent. The definition of a holistic dentist should include not being excessive with xrays! 2. He wanted to do too much "preventative work" when I had no pain...fillings and a crown that were all not needed in my opinion. True holistic Dentists are supposed to be minimalists. 3. The filling still hurts now months later and the cap was a disaster that almost took me to the hospital. I went to another dentist just to look at it because I was in so much pain and Dr. Son is closed on Fridays. Other dentist said it looked like my gums were burned and cut up and it was worse even a week after treatment. He said it wasn't normal at all and speculated that the Dr. Son left some piece of tooth, or cement in my gum as well. 4. I self treated for infection and pain and was able to avoid hospital and antibiotics...when I called Dr. Son and explained I was better but still in a lot of pain he asked me to come in and injected me with some med he said isn't FDA approved and is a homeopathic anti inflammatory from Europe. He didn't ask me in advance if I wanted this done but I did agree to an ozone treatment and he said this was needed since I wouldn't take NSAIDS. 5. He proceeded to give me 6 injections-all on the same side which I think was total overkill... I had a strong reaction to the anti inflammatory and the ozone which made me feel like I was having a stroke and I almost had to pull over on my way home. The intensity wore off but settled in my ear where I had pain and couldn't hear well for a couple of weeks and the plugged up/full feeling was so frustrating. The pain continued as well. 6. From the time Dr. Son put the temporary crown I started to have mild vertigo and dizziness. This feeling increased over the next couple of weeks and I hoped it would go away when he put the permanent one on but it only got worse...it took several weeks after to lessen and honestly I think it would be just as bad today if it weren't for all my home remedies and interventions. 7. Another thing that really bothered me was his bedside manner. He stabbed me in the gum with his sharp instrument during one of the treatments. He didn't ask my okay before doing things like extra xrays or shots and did not take a conservative holistic approach to my overall care and his recommendations, even after I told him I had serious dental fears and that I had a compromised immune system and cancer history. 8. I found him smug and unapologetic when I voiced my concerns about things and this really bothered me. I still have discomfort in the filling tooth he did and have serious pain in the crown that has still not fully healed... The only plus is that the hygienists seemed nice but Teri in his front office seemed very impersonal and insincere. I definitely won't be going back. I originally went here with concerns about sensitivity in my teeth, and he was so busy recommending other work (i.e. $$$) that he didn't even bother to treat what I was originally there for. He mentioned he would put some sealant on my teeth but didn't do it at all. He did fill a few cavities for me, and that work went fine, but he suggested multiple fillings and replacing a root canal with an implant. All work my previous dentist never even mentioned! The aggressive, money-hungry tone this office exudes really turns me off, and I will not be returning to this for that reason. I've always had courteous financial relationships with dentists where paying the bill was never an issue. The dentists would bill my insurance company and then send me an invoice for the difference. Then I paid it. Easy peasy. That's why I was a little taken aback when, coming out of an extensive treatment (three cavity fillings), Terry tells me to pay for it on the spot. They say they've estimated insurance's portion and this is what I owe, and that after they run it through insurance, I may have to pay more if there is a difference. Okay, not the most efficient way to do it IMO, but whatever. They take my credit card and say they're going to put it in their file. I specifically tell them I do not want them running it without my authorization. "Oh no, we aren't going to do that. It's just for the file," is their response. It was a little off-putting, but nothing crazy, so I let it go. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and one of the claims for my fillings got denied because my previous dentist billed for it without my knowledge. I ask them to give me two weeks to figure it out because my previous dentist was out of town. Two weeks pass by, and I call the office and give Jerry (different lady) a message that my previous dentist is withdrawing her claim and that Dr. Son would be able to resubmit the claim and get paid in a few days. Jerry says great. Insurance ends up covering it a few days later, and I think everything is settled. Then a few weeks later, Terry calls me first thing in the morning on a Monday and leaves a message in her usual condescending, passive aggressive tone saying I need to pay my outstanding bill (which was already taken care of by insurance a few weeks ago already). I respond by text asking her to check the file because Jerry already took care of it, and it was already paid. Now I am annoyed because this office is acting more like a shady collection agency than a dentist's office. Then, the best part-- I receive an invoice from Dr. Son with a handwritten note saying they tried to run my credit card for the remaining balance but it failed to go through. WHAT THE??? I never gave them authorization to do that. Now, I've had enough. I call Terry and she said it was in my new patient info that they could run my credit card without my authorization. I tell her I specifically gave instructions not to do that, and she says, "Oh, okay, we won't then. Just pay by check." Then she starts making comments about how she doesn't want to turn over my account to a collection agency, blah blah... Basically, she treats me like some dead beat whom she's been chasing after for years for some unpaid debt when in reality, I've been keeping them in the loop the whole time about the insurance situation. I ask her why she even mentioned a collection agency when she knows this is a special situation where it took a little more time than usual, but it wasn't a case of me not paying. She backtracks saying "Oh, no, I'm not saying this is a collection agency situation..." THEN WHY DID YOU EVEN MENTION THAT?? It sounds unnecessarily threatening and aggressive. Yuck. She then tells me she didn't know about the status of my file because Jerry never conveyed any messages to her. NOT MY PROBLEM. Terry and Jerry, you just ruined it for me. Sorry, Dr. Son, but you may want to review your billing staff's aggressive and condescending demeanor because it is seriously off-putting. I'll unfortunately have to move on. Terry didn't even sound remotely genuine when she apologized for all the misunderstandings. She ended the conversation with, "Should I mark your file as inactive patient then?" Didn't even make an attempt to talk me out of it. YUCK YUCK YUCK. Never again. read more

This review is way overdue. To be honest, this is the 1st review I've ever felt the need to write. 3 days before walking into this office I had gone to another dentist for a pain I was having in 1 of my teeth. It was something he couldn't fix and referred me to a specialist. While I was making up my mind on what to do, a completely different tooth (one I was not having a problem with) partially fell out! I felt no pain at 1st but being completely freaked out I needed to get something done the next morning. I work close to Dr. Son's office so I stopped in just to ask some questions and try to get an estimate. They took me back right away to complete a quick consultation and I ended up leaving an hour later with an emergency root canal. While fixing that tooth I asked him to look at the rest of my mouth not really wanting to know the answer. It's been about 4 yrs since going to the dentist so I knew it wasn't going to be good. It wasn't. Dentistry is expensive which we all know but Dr. Son worked with me to get a payment plan so I could fix what needed to be fixed right away and they are helping me so I can finish what I need to have done. I'm taking baby steps-getting the most important problems taken care of 1st! Besides the day after the root canal, I have not had any pain since leaving his office!!! I've had pain for almost all 4 of those years that I've been trying to ignore. I can actually drink a glass of cold water without cringing. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I am no longer "afraid of the dentist." I even made them a few dozen cupcakes as a thank you! This is overdue, as my last experience with this office was about 2 years ago, but that doesn't change what's happened. I came here on a referral from my boss at the time. I hadn't had dental insurance in several years since I wasn't afforded benefits through most of my jobs and was a student otherwise, but I had them now and I was going to use them! I made an appointment for a cleaning and exam. To their credit, they are very nice and fairly well organized in the office aspect. I felt comfortable and their lobby is very clean and modern. The treatment/exam area was bright, the ceiling was painted to resemble a bright blue sky, a pleasant view while you're staring up and trying to avoid staring directly into your hygienists eyes or up their nose (I'm not the only one, right?) My hygienist was SO sweet and did a fantastic job on my cleaning and didn't scold me too hard for my lack of flossing. I wish I could remember her name, but it was 2 years ago and I just don't. I ended up needing to come back in for a deep cleaning, as those several years without insurance and therefore no really good cleanings led to some tartar that needed removing. After my cleaning, the dentist saw me and he was nice, but I was starting to feel like I was being pushed into buying things or getting procedures done that just weren't necessary. His assistant commented on what pretty teeth I had, it was just such a shame they were covered up by so much gum and that I should look into having some sort of gum reduction procedure. For the record, my teeth-to-gum ratio is fine, they aren't corn nibblet small and they aren't horse-toothed long. She followed up by saying once that was done, I'd need whitening to make them look their best. I'm here for an exam and cleaning, not a cosmetic consultation. The doctor looked at the x-rays and declared me cavity free and then told me I needed to get some sort of oral cancer screening done with some camera... that wouldn't be covered under my insurance as this was something above and beyond the scope of the normal appointment. Now, I give him points for telling me it wouldn't be covered before just going ahead and doing it, but again, I felt like it was an up sell, since I was a nonsmoker, non-tobacco using, early 20's person. Skip to 6 months down the road when it came time for my next cleaning appointment (the one for removing the tartar came and went with the same hygienist and no issues). The front office is still just as nice, but when it came time for my x-rays, the girl trying to do those seemed more nervous about it than I could be and kept messing them up. Particularly the canine area & the very back ones, so after several failed attempts at getting them, I understandably start gagging each time she stuck the film back in there. She ends up just kinda giving up, like well, this will just have to do. I get my cleaning done by the same awesome hygienist again with no issues, and then go to see Dr. Son. He comes in and looks at my mangled x-rays and proclaims I have EIGHT cavities!!!!! WHAT?!!??! I saw you 6 months ago and was cavity free! How could I possibly have 8 now?! He says its the top and bottom canines on both sides of my mouth and the ones next to them. How in the world can I have the same 4 cavities in each side of my mouth!? I told him the girl doing the x-rays had trouble with those spots, so he has me redo the x-rays. They come back (digital, thank goodness) and now I only have 4 cavities. I'm just not accepting this, so we do them once more with someone else doing them and NOW he's finally satisfied and says he's so sorry for all of the back and forth, but it looks like I only have 2 cavities, only the top on one side of my mouth. I'm absolutely bewildered how 6 months ago, when I hadn't been to the dentist in YEARS, I was cavity free, but now 6 months later after I've been deep cleaned and had tartar removal, I'm suddenly chock full of cavities?! Cavities that mysteriously disappear each time I get x-rays done? Rather than argue, I just made the appointment to have them filled 2 months out with the need to get a second opinion in the back of my head. I never ended up getting those filled because I lost my job, and therefore insurance, about 3 weeks before the appointment. I called and canceled it and explained to them why. They obliged and called me a few months after the fact to see if I wanted to reschedule yet. Since I'd not been able to find new employment, I told them no and that I would contact them when I did. A few weeks ago, as in 2 years and a few weeks ago, they called AGAIN to schedule me. Are you that hard up for business? I told the girl to please remove me from her call list as I didn't have a job with insurance yet. I do now, and I'm looking for another dentist. read more

Dr. David Son and his entire staff are sensational and one of a kind. They are very professional; but at the same time, caring and understanding. The technology they use is incredible. I am a 55 year old woman who was born without 6 of my permanent teeth and because of this most of my teeth are capped and are over 26 years old. When I had my first consultation with Dr. David Son, I was suffering from an infection caused by a root canal. He informed me how bad infected root canals and metal fillings are and what I needed to do to have healthier teeth and gums. He explained to me that what was most important was to decide what to fix first and a plan on accommodating my budget. I ended up having 4 of my front teeth pulled and 2 implants put in. I do not like having my teeth drilled, but Dr. David Son's mastery was remarkable and painless. He also took a sample of my blood before the procedure and put it in a machine to make stems cells from. He used the stem cells to help my gums heal faster. Also, during the whole process ozone water was used. While waiting for my implants to heal, he had a temporary made for me to wear which is gorgeous. My experience so far has been wonderful and I even had my teeth clean last week with April, a Hygienist, which was amazing too. read more

My entire family has been going to Dr. Son and his staff for about 10 years and I have nothing but good things to say about the office.
