Later I get a statement from my insurance company with my expected out of pocket expense. What I paid was more than my expected out of pocket. I called the office to clarify, and was told that not everything was run through the insurance because it wouldn't be covered. This was not a cosmetic procedure, it should have been covered and definitely should have been submitted to my insurance. (Counts towards max out of pocket) Very sketchy billing practices. Great office, but I will definitely be more diligent when asked to pay .

On the day of that appointment, I encountered unexpected traffic and called ahead to let the office know I would be approximately 15-20 minutes late. I was told that was not a problem and was rescheduled for another time that same day. However, shortly afterward, I was informed that the practice no longer wished to have me as a patient. This was extremely surprising and disappointing. I was told I would receive a referral to another provider, but I never received any follow-up communication. What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of communication after my dismissal from the practice. I had to send multiple emails requesting my dental records before receiving a response. When I finally did hear back, there was no acknowledgment of my questions, no explanation regarding my treatment status, no referral information, and no guidance on next steps. The response consisted only of a code to access my records. There was no discussion of continuity of care or any clear exit plan to help me transition to another provider. As a result, I am now forced to start the entire process over with a new provider after investing significant time and effort into meeting Elite Dental's requirements. I trusted this practice with my care and was committed to moving forward with treatment. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled felt unprofessional, lacked basic patient communication, and left me without the treatment plan I had spent months working toward. I stopped her before she could polish my teeth and "teach me how to floss and brush my teeth." I am 37 years old, with a mouth full of teeth....I think I've figured out how to do those two things by now! I was already annoyed at the administrative side of this practice as they require you to pay for services upfront and then you have to collect reimbursement from your insurance company. This is inconvenient as then you have to take a check to be deposited, but it also points out how over-priced Portnoff's practice is as her fees consistently exceed the allowable deductions. My family will be finding a new dentist and I caution yours against going here.

Update to my previous review. -----------------------…read moreI hate to give this place a bad review because they have a great hygienist in Denise, but do not go to Dr. Khanpara if you're suffering from tooth-related pain. Last year during a routine examination, I complained that I had a minor toothache in an old crown. X-ray showed that I had a minor infection. I was sent home and didn't think anything of it. I thought it would go away on its own. Days later, I started feeling more pain, so before things got any worse, I went back to the office and saw Dr. Khanpara. I told her about my tooth pain and about the infection, and I asked her to prescribe antibiotics to make sure that the infection didn't get any worse, but she refused to do so. She just told me to take painkillers and see an endodontist. I couldn't see the endodontist for a few days because they didn't have an appointment available, but I was in so much pain the next day that I went to another dentist who took a look at my tooth, saw the infection, and the first thing she did was prescribe antibiotics. Sure enough, within a day the toothache was gone, which made the wait for the endodontist somewhat tolerable. Cut to last week when my wife had the same thing happen to her. She went to see Dr. Khanpara complaining of a toothache. They took X-rays and found that she had an infection in an old crown. My wife was in a lot of pain, but instead of prescribing pain medication or an antibiotic, she was sent home because she didn't have a fever. But my wife didn't have a fever because she had been taking Tylenol, which may have been masking the fever. Dr. Khanpara even told her that antibiotics wouldn't make any difference with the pain! My wife was in so much pain that she went to see another dentist the very next day, who again saw what was wrong and immediately prescribed antibiotics. And the same thing happened: her pain was gone the next day, and now she's ok to wait until she sees an endodontist to treat her crown. I don't know if this is company policy not to prescribe antibiotics or if this is a personal issue Dr. Khanpara has against antibiotics, but I don't think she's ever suffered from a toothache. It's either that or she lacks basic human compassion. Safe to say that we will never be going back.
