Least favorite restaurant in the area. We come to the area to visit our kid in college nearby. Owner unfriendly and food just fair-You can get mediocre Chinese anywhere so why put up with bad attitude to boot? If you go...good luck! I feel like David Kings needs at least 3.5 stars, so I sort of rounded up. It's mine and my fiance's favorite place to order in - always under $30, and good food, as long as you know what to get. Delivery is always very fast. I always get kani salad and an oshinko roll, sometimes a different veggie roll. Their fish isn't that great - I wouldn't eat it again. It isn't very fresh. My fiance loves sesame chicken, and this is his favorite place to get it. It's cheaper than a lot of other asian fusion places, and we can get it unfried, which he likes even better than getting it fried. I've had some meh fish from here, but all in all, cheap, and good if you know what to order. read more

Super disappointed! If you are into, everything soy sauce, greasy old oil drippings, 5 days old fried rice & wantons, then this is your spot! The host was extremely nice however maybe they don't sell that much so they reuse ingredients. The rice was stale, egg roll was leaking old oil and wanton soup tasted like a week old. I've been enjoying this no-frills Chinese restaurant in the heart of White Plains for seven years. We used to eat there regularly, but live in the city now, so only get up to White Plains every few months. But we always make a trip to David King when we're there. The match of quality and price is unbeatable. My wife and I are both vegetarian, and there is a a wide variety of hearty, but fresh and healthy, options. Yesterday I had moo-shoo vegetable, she had sesame tofu, and a side of soup and brown rice. We also order vegetable sushi rolls, vegetable stir fries, side salads, etc. The food is consistently good (especially for the price), and the servings hefty. David King also has beer and cocktails available at cheap prices, and their jasmine tea is refreshing. The great food is matched by the friendly staff and excellent service. All in all, David King has been consistently delicious and inexpensive for years and years, and the dine-in atmosphere warm and relaxing. It's a step above your standard, budget Chinese restaurant and I recommend it to anyone in the White Plains area. read more

Absolutely AWFUL!! The most tasteless Chinese food I have ever come across. I understand this is a mostly take out place, and I was not expecting stellar or even great food. I was expecting passable, though. We ordered five items. Three went directly into the garbage after the first bite. The General Tso's chicken was in a SOUR sauce. No spice at all. In addition, the sauce was an off putting almost yellow color. The chicken itself was tough and tasted old and dried out. The sesame noodles had NO sesame taste whatsoever. It was like eating cardboard. The eggrolls were completely tasteless also, mostly several layers of soggy wrapping and a few bits of almost stewed cabbage which tasted like water. The Singapore Mai Fun was not good, but at least had a vague hint of curry which means it was the closest thing to a dish that had any taste at all. I would NEVER order from here again, even if the food was free. As it was, I literally could have gotten more satisfaction from burning the $40 or so I spent on this than even one bite of it brought me. Absolutely disgusted by this "restaurant". I really like their Fried Rice. It is fresh and cooked perfectly. At just over $6 after tax it is a bargain. If you like Fried Rice this is a must go to place. I haven't tried any of their other dishes. They accept cash only for small orders. read more

my 1st order will be my last. they could not get my simple order correct for delivery, and when the guy came, i guess he couldnt follow the simple directions about coming to the door on the right side of the house. That aside, the food was easily lacking 1 ingredient... salt, therefore, minimal flavor. i was upset when my order arrived incorrectly, but I at least thought it would be tasty as typical chinese takeout... it really wasn't. go ahead and try it out and lemme know. read more

I have always loved this place, well since the late 80's anyway. A few years ago sadly the quality of food started to decline. So, I've been going much less frequently. I recently ordered the lunch special, General Tso's chicken, with pork fried rice and egg roll and wonton soup. The General Tso's chicken had no spice to it. It had the red pepper shells and was in a significant amount of liquid,not sauce liquid. The chicken was so overcooked, It was inedible. The pork fried rice was nothing to write home about is basically very plain, lacked pork, no egg, really just brown colored rice.(it was not brown rice)The wonton soup was lukewarm and the noodles were gummy on the outside and uncooked on the inside. The egg roll had a ton of some form of spice in it that was somewhat like blackpepper. It was so overpowering I couldn't even finish the first bite. I was really looking forward to my lunch from David King. But not one item was edible. Why did I give it two stars? I did because the people there are super, their dining room is always clean, and the bathroom although on the tiny side is always immaculate. read more

I have ordered form them a bunch of times because you can get chinese and Japanese all in one inexpensive place. Their Chinese food is pretty typical but definitely not as greasy and disgusting as hong kong chef. But their sushi is pretty decent. I would recommend the sweet potato roll, I usually don't like sweet potato roll but it's pretty yummy here. Overall it's great for delivery and sitting there. Also if your ordering for dinner get the combo box it's a great price for a pretty decent amount of food. read more

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE EASTCHESTER LOCATION: The only thing worse than the delivery service at this restaurant was the food. We ordered two "Thai" dishes for delivery from David Kind last night around 7:30 pm (a Sunday). We live a quarter mile away from the restaurant, and after 45 minutes we called and they told us, "Oh, your order just left. It will be there soon." So, we expected the food to be there in less than 5 minutes since we're right around the corner. Another 20 minutes goes by, still no food. Husband calls again and they say, "Sorry. We're really busy. It will be there soon." Seriously doubt that they were "really busy" since there was 5" of ice and snow on the ground, downed tree limbs, and no one was on the road. Finally, another 20 minutes later the food shows up... Luke warm... And TERRIBLE. We ordered red curry chicken and shrimp pad thai. I probably shouldn't have ordered "Thai" food from a Chinese restaurant, but I don't understand why this place bothers to have it on their menu if they can't even come CLOSE to preparing it correctly. The shrimp pad thai was CHICKEN pad thai, and it tasted like Chinese chow fun noodles with a few peanuts thrown in. The red curry chicken wasn't even recognizable as that - it looked like chicken with garlic sauce and tasted similar - no curry, only spice, no soupy broth like red curry is supposed to have, and about 3 pieces of basil thrown in. Expensive and terrible food, they charged me $2 per soda can and when I asked about it, the woman at the desk started yelling "that's the price, that's the price!" I should've just left but I paid and even left a tip. My first inkling was right, I should've left because the food was terrible, the sesame chicken had no flavor whatsoever and was tough to even bite into and the egg roll tasted hard and old.. I've gotten take out for lunch from David King's dozens of times and it's always very good. I usually order chicken lo mein, and this is the only Chinese restaurant I've found that puts mushrooms in it, which makes it my favorite. The inside is small, but clean, the prices are good, there is a parking lot right around the corner so it's easy to get in and out. I highly recommend! read more

Great place for Chinese takeout. They are nice on the phone and fill orders quickly. When we show up, the food is always ready, no matter how quickly we show up (we live around the corner). The steamed dumplings are perfectly cooked - a staple of our orders. The restaurant itself tends to be mostly empty, which initially made me hesitant to go, but when I pick up the food, the phone is ringing off the hook and their filled receipt stack is high. It's clear they do a lot of take out and delivery business, and I understand why. read more

We've been ordering takeout from David King for several years and are usually satisfied. Last night was a disappointment. The food did not arrive hot (it usually does), the chicken in the Chicken and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce was too tough to chew and the eggplant was undercooked. However, the delivery was very speedy, and the prices are reasonable.One advantage of David King is the food is not overly salty as in some Chinese restaurants; you may want to add salt to some dishes which taste rather bland otherwise. read more

Just ordered from David King Chinese Restaurant in White Plains after not having been there for many years, and after the recommendation from a friend. We ordered takeout for 4 and went to pickup ourselves. The soup was fine, no complaints there. We also ordered Mooshoo Pork which was average, pretty bland in taste even with the hoisin sauce. We also had Chow Fun which was just o.k. and One of us ordered a Shrimp and Beef with broccoli dish with brown sauce on the side. They steamed the shrimp and beef and it was horrible ! The beef was a pale beige color, verrrry unappetizing to look at and tasted even worse !! I' ve had this dish at many restaurants over the years and NO ONE has ever screwed it up as badly as this. The shrimp was somewhat better but slimy and very wet in consistency......I couldn't believe I had to pay $10.50 for this dish.....what a horrible waste of money.....but the worst was yet to come. Our final dish was General Tsao's Chicken......when we tasted the chicken, which is a dish that is battered and fried, it was all soggy and wet, there was a ton of clear liquid in the container, like water , and the chicken was chewy as anything. We bit into several pieces each one being the same. The dish was thrown out without having been eaten at all. Had we been eating in the restaurant ,2 entire dishes from this order would have been returned, but I somehow get the feeling that when takeout is ordered, they substitute inferior or older ingredients knowing that it most likely will not be returned. All I can say is that for $47.00 for takeout for 4, truly a disappointment , and we will never order from there again. We were looking to replace China Star as our usual, but they should be rated as gourmet fare compared to David King and we will gladly order from our old place again. There are better choices !! A little dissapointed. Maybe my first mistake was ordering Japanese at a more Chinese influenced place. That being said, it took them a really long time to come which is understandable but I called them and they lost my phone number so it was a good thing I called. When he finally got here he called me saying to meet him in the parking lot of my dorm which is annoying. They asked me.my dorm number so i thought theyd at least bring it to my building but whatever. It was raining so it was ten times worse. The food itself was pretty awful. I paid 15 dollars which is pretty decent for a college student, I'm broke lol. The chicken had the weirdest texture and smell. I don't think it was cooked all the way through because of the texture. The taste was not good. The teriyaki sauce was mediocre. The meso soup tasted like chicken stock that desperately needed salt. Not to mention there was like two pieces of tofu in there as well. And the salad had a nasty plop of ginger dressing thay did not have the consistency or taste it should. This is my review thanks for reading my rant. read more
