Creampuffs have an unassuming elegance. A humble golden dome crown that belies the richness within. A perfectly crisp exterior, christened with a dusting of powdered sugar like the first frost of winter. Inside, a voluptuous cream that exists both light and airy, and yet dense and rich. A cloud of perfection. Each bite an experience in texture and taste, crispiness of the pastry and cool, luxurious cream. Come early on the weekends, because Daido will run out.

Followed the smell of freshly baked cream puffs to this place, and couldn't believe is only $2, is really the best value. Love this cream puffs more then the Beard Papa's

The market is very clean and organized, as expected of a Japanese market. Produce and groceries are packaged individually in plastic, which makes you feel like they're safe during Covid times. I came with a one track mind to get the fresh cream puffs they only have on Saturdays. They fill the cream puffs right in front of you and aren't stingy. The filling is a bit on the runny side, though.

We came looking for prepared foods. It was 2 or 3pm so not much left - kelp or bonito flake rice ball and shrimp fried noodles. I grabbed a kelp onigiri to hold me over. When I first walked in, I was chatting with the woman at the bakery who was very friendly. I ended up buying a mixed fruit cream sandwich. My friend was skeptical but ended up liking it. Canned peach, grape, strawberry, kiwi with whipped cream sandwiched between fluffy milk bread was sweet, creamy and fluffy like a piece of cake. On Saturdays (and maybe Sundays) they have $2 cream puffs. We had to wait a little bit but it was worth it. The cream puffs had a nice crispy outer with buttery creamy custard inside. They weren't as crispy the next day, but still good. Other than that, the grocery has a good variety of frozen foods, vegetables, and meats.

Love this place! I have been here a few times and couldn't find what I was looking for. I came here recently and picked up fish, chicken, mochi ice cream and chocolate cake - everything was amazing! The sushi counter is closed on Tuesdays however. And, I was here on a Tuesday ... I'll definitely come back to try the sushi.

Due to Covid-19, Daido's store hour is now from 9:30 to 5PM every day.

I have been coming here during the Covid-19 lockdown and they still manage to fully stock their shelves with freshest sushi fish and other yummy Japanese goods. Bento boxes go on shelves at 10AM the latest. All bentos are available unchanged from pre-Covid era. Pick your favorite from spicy tuna rolls, chirashi bowl and curry bowl. Clear vinyl curtain now surrounds each cash register, making it impossible to catch any airborne disease from cashiers. Unfortunately (I say this selfishly), non-Japanese people are starting to discover this hidden gem. Every time the line forming outside the store is longer than before, but only about 5 to 15 people. Much better than the line at Trader Joes, right? Their hours are now from 9:30 to 5pm every day. Last entry is at 4:30. Sadly I don't see Sun Merry bread anymore... hope they come back soon. Daido might have paused on weekend cream puffs as well. Call ahead. :-) If you want something American, pick up pizza at Utica Pie Co. just a few blocks away. Whole Foods (for my American husband), Daido, Utica is our weekend routine.

I drive from CT to shop at this small market for fresh fish and other goods from japan. Even though the selection of fresh cut fish for sushi and sashimi is not restaurant premium sections, it suffices for the inner at home sushi chef. The variety of fish is generally more than a typical suburban sushi restaurant. Great prices for Japanese products. The employees are courteous and friendly. A pleasant shopping experience.

My son, who I was buying for, is very much into Japanese culture and is more familiar with the food items for sale there! I was directed in a positive direction and found some great items to purchase for my son! Thank you ladies for all of your help and thanks for what you do for the community! Cheers!

I normally plan new outings. Then there are those times where I'd visit a new place on a whim. But…read morethis, was totally so unplanned. I originally wanted to grab some Bye Bye Baby items for a co-worker's shower- but they've since shut down. Lo and behold, Rice Factory- located at a strip mall on Central Ave In Scarsdale, was staring at me. I'm not here to tell you what type of rice milling equipment they use- because one: I don't know and two: I won't pretend I know because this is all new to me. What I do well is- is how to cook commercial rice I get from my local supermarket. With a natural, light color wood and modern design in mind, it's also serene as Japanese instrumental music played in the background. All these details made me feel relaxed. Rice F. makes it super easy for you to select the type of rice and how much you want it milled. The entire process was an eye-opener. I chose the 100% white rice- and I get it- at this point of the milling process, most (or all) of the nutrients are stripped. If you're not coming here for the milled rice (I mean...why wouldn't you?), Rice F. also stocks tableware supplies, small ceramic serving ware and a complete range of these delicious rice crackers which I got my hands on to try, a can of Japanese sardines and of course, a 2lb bag of milled white rice. Service was incredibly pleasant and patient as one of the ladies took the time to explain how to cook Japanese rice. For all your rice needs- and a little beyond, Rice F. is your spot.
