I popped in last evening to pick up a two good to go order. It was an opportunity to try them out, but I did not know is that they are also a Chinese grocery store which I just love. I ended up getting a combination of rice balls, teriyaki chicken, salmon, beef, and plain rice and I also got a salmon avocado sushi roll. Super fresh and dimmer. Service was welcoming and kind. Cute little Japanese market in Harrison with a variety of items: candies, snacks, produce, frozen foods, desserts, toys, condiments, etc. Picked up some produce today. Maybe next time we will try the sushi products, as I was not impressed by what I saw (and smelled) did not appear to be as fresh as the seafood I am used to at Katagiri in Manhattan. I love Oishinbo! The employees are so kind and welcoming. They have a variety of Japanese products and their hot menu items are also delicious. I find the shrimp tempura and chicken teriyaki onigiri to be a great lunch choice. The ramen is also very yummy. They have some affordable Kobe beef plates that has been delicious every time I've ordered it. If you're craving dessert, the matcha boba shake is a great choice! I would say the store is a bit cramped at times due to many people in the store at once. There is also a seating area in the back corner of the store. I wish they had a wider matcha powder selection! read more

Recently found out that my father-in-law hadn't tried sushi. Seemed like a situation that had to be remedied. I found Oishinbo on Yelp and figured it would be the perfect way to introduce him to sushi. They have a nice grocery section and a selection of prepared sushi and other dishes. I didn't see the types of sushi that I was looking for and I asked the gentleman working there if he'd be able to prepare them. He showed me the menu and said he could make whatever we want. I asked for tuna and salmon sushi pieces and a tuna and avocado roll. He prepared it right in front of us. The rice was incredibly fresh and at a perfect temperature. The quality of the fish was excellent. My father-in-law truly enjoyed his introduction to sushi. A new type of cuisine is now open to him. I also enjoyed the sushi quite a bit, it's very high quality. I look forward to returning. read more

Surprise surprise, it turns out they're actually quite racist to black folks. On my second visit I was only greeted by terse glances and silence. Even the couple of patrons seemed extremely scared of me. I realize now that my previous positive experience was only because I was one of the only customers at that time, and there was only one worker. I will not beat around the bush: I was followed around the entire time I was shopping there. I experienced one of the workers (pink shirt in an apron) staring at me, walking very close to me while staring, and even BLOCKING the exit when I returned to the pastry stand. At that point I gave up and checked out. It was only then that the cashier saw that I was a "true" customer due to what I was buying. I was offered an "Oishinbo Stamp Card" as perhaps some sort of restitution. Perhaps if these folks were not freaking out about my skin tone, they would have realized that a shoplifter is not going to target their store in broad daylight to steal a basket full of curry donuts, Calpico cans, pastries and a premade meal. Then again, as we all know, racism is highly illogical. I cannot in good conscience recommend this store to anyone. Back to HMart and SayWeee I go. read more

This little Japanese grocery has a small section for dining inside in its own corner with barstool seating. When the weather is nice, you can also buy takeaway and eat outside on the park benches or at the park across the street. It's conveniently located across from the Harrison train station. They serve an assortment of specials that are written up on their chalkboard each day, but your can also order freshly made sushi to eat-in or to go. The grocery has an excellent assortment of Japanese chilled and frozen food as well as staples, condiments, baked items, etc. They'll also carry some local baked items as well. For special occasions, you can order the sushi arranged on a small model of a wooden boat for any order of 84pcs of maki sushi or more. read more

Love this place..found it a few years ago looking for Japanese Ultraman toys. Love the sushi, teriyaki chicken bowls...all the food is great..fresh vegetables too..also a great selection of frozen goods..when we had the blackout I ended up buying a ton of stuff half price..I still have plenty of gyoza left..also..$1 for tofu..a plus is that they are actually Japanese..so I bring in some of my Japanese hero DVDs for them to translate!!!! read more

The two Japanese gentlemen who run this store are creative geniuses. Every week we visit, and there is always a surprise snack to choose from such as edamame rice balls or sushi made with mango. In addition to their great take-outs, there is a huge variety of toys. In fact, it is a mini-Daiso store now. They decorate the store for every season and holiday. The interior and exterior are magnets for kids. Even adults love to see the new additions. We look forward to going there every week. read more

What a find! Such a nice little Japanese grocery store tucked away in the neighborhood here. This place has ingredients for cooks who want to venture out beyond ramen and sushi. Making miso soup? Get your dried anchovies here for your niboshi dashi, or Japanese stock. Making Nobu-style miso black cod? Get your mirin and miso paste here. They also have a video section for those who know nihongo. It's amazing how much they packed into this little store. The store is nice and clean, no strong fishy smell. The fresh fish looks fresh, though the sushi grade fish probably could probably be better. Great place for those who don't want to trek out to the Mitsuwa in Edgewater. read more

This is my favorite Japanese store in town. If your going to want to go any where, it's here. This place serves ultimate quality sushi and Japanese food, it's off the charts. The parking may lack but hey, if you want to go to a good place why stop because of no parking? The people are very nice they treat you like your mom has not seen you in 100 years.
