Amazing service and delicious food! The food was fresh and came out fast. Portions are generous, so you definitely won't leave hungry. My favorite dish was Pho Chicken Noodle Soup without fried shallots, which was delicious, also gluten free, dairy free and soy free. The green tea was good. Others had something else I had no interest in to remember the name. Their menu has many options to offer, including gluten free, soy free, and dairy free options. I've been to Saigonese twice now, and both visits have been consistently good. The service is attentive and no-nonsense, and our water cups were always refilled without us having to ask. My favorite appetizer is the fried spring rolls. They're extra crunchy, bigger than usual (about two inches long), and come with lettuce and pickles to wrap them with, which balances everything nicely. You get four per order, and we ended up ordering another plate. We also ordered the summer rolls, which come as two rolls cut in half. I my fried likes these more than me, but they are still good. They initially held our main dishes until we finished the appetizers, which I appreciated, and when I asked for everything to come out at once, they accommodated right away. I ordered the pho with tendon, and they were generous with the portion. It also came with plenty of bean sprouts, basil, and lime. The broth was slightly on the sweeter side, but still very satisfying. I finished the whole bowl and was very full. My friend enjoyed the beef cubes, and my father had the pho with all the toppings. We come to Saigonese once or twice a year and always enjoy the place. It's small and sometimes tough to get a table during busy nights, but that speaks to the quality of their meals. This a "nothing fancy" experience. The atmosphere is plain but functional. Some outdoor seating is nice but again, nothing fancy. Come for the food. One thing that bothers me to no end is any restaurant's price hike for paying with a credit card. I have to believe that more than 90% of diners use cards. The typical credit card processing fee averages around 3%. It's cheap and offensive to penalize credit card holders for using plastic. If the restaurant is concerned, it should adjust all prices slightly to compensate, which removes the feeling of cheapness. In any case, 3% should be the max. Then why is Saigonese ripping off their customers with a 5% price hike? read more

Was craving Pho and passed this place many times so decided to drop in for a meal. The place is small and gets crowded fast - my sister and I went around 5:00 for dinner. The menu is pretty big with alot of different options. After looking at it I decided not to get the Pho and I went with spring rolls (appetizer), spare ribs and beef fried rice as my main. My sister ordered the pork chops. First can we start with the soda lemonade.....I asked him not to put too much sugar and he got it right - it was refreshing and very good. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and everything came out piping hot. We have not one complaint as everything was delicious. The ribs and pork chops (yes I tasted it) were juicy and tender - the ribs were fall of the bone tender and the pork chop had really good seasoning. The fried rice was good as well and was enough for the two of us to share. We left with take-home food and stuffed. I highly recommend them for tasty Vietnamese food. the cha gio is good but not the best I have ever had. The pork has a nice char flavor and the food over all is very good. Saturday night last minute, place was busy but got a seat immediately. We ordered app of chicken wings and catfish mango Of which I was skeptical. But the catfish was crispy and flavorful and had a delicious mango salsa on top. So good. Chicken wings were crispy but the sauce that it was in was so savory and delicious. I ordered the grilled pork chop they're famous for. Simply grilled atop of shredded lettuce with a tomato and cucumber slice and it comes with side of white rice. The pork chop is very thin and it's cut up for you. It just needs to have some type of sauce for it or the rice. But other than that it was delicious. It's very simple and plain so don't expect an extravagant pork dish. But everything we ordered is very savory and definitely has tons of umami. I feel like the reviews should be higher than they are... this is a no frills pho place exactly what you want on a cold night when you want some good soup. I always order the same thing because it's so good....the chicken pho (I don't eat red meat) and I split the shrimp summer roles with a friend. The chicken is perfectly tender and shredded and the noodles are cooked to perfection. The summer roles are cold, and are so good with some shrimp and cabbage and other veggies inside with a delicious peanut sauce. The soup comes with all the fixings including lime, bean, sprouts, and cilantro leaves. The broth is the real winner here as it's flavorful and delicious! It's not overly salty and has such great texture and is always fantastic. The place is fairly small so it could sometimes get crowded but the service is fast and friendly. It's also very reasonable. Most of the soups are about $14 and you are in and out quickly. I've tried other pho places in Westchester and this is by far the best one I've been to. I usually get a glass of wine as well which is very reasonable. They also do a very good takeout business as you always see cars coming and going. read more

I always visit a restaurant a few times before deciding to update a rating to ensure that an improved or worsened experience is not simply a fluke. While my initial experience with Saigonese was far from pleasant, I'm pleased to admit that my past few visits have been quite enjoyable. The appetizers (particularly the fried spring and steamed rice rolls) were full of flavor without being too greasy or salty. The texture profile of the steamed rice rolls was perfect, with the crunchy vegetables complimenting the soft, chewy rolls. My only critique would be that the meat filling was skimpy, and the ham was a bit strange. The house special vermicelli bowl was refreshing and quite filling but not too heavy. The bowl was half vegetables and half noodles, which actually turned out to be a good balance of ingredients. The rice noodles were rather clumpy, so the serving was more filling than I expected. The pork and shrimp were marinated to perfection, with a slight sweetness that almost resembled Korean galbi. We had such a good dinner at Saigonese the other night. This was only my second time having Vietnamese food and I'm so glad I had it again! The outside and inside of the building are painted in a bright yellow making it really stand out. We were seated right away and ordered a Thai iced tea and the pork summer rolls to start with. The rolls were served with a peanut sauce and it was so good individually and also together. We also ordered a classic banh mi (pork belly, pate, and pork ham filling) and the grilled lemongrass chicken noodles. Both entrees were also so good. Their prices are reasonably priced and the brisket pho has a good quantity of meat and noodles. One of my college friends and I decided to meet for dinner and catch up. She suggested Saigonese - and since I hadn't been there in a few years I was looking forward to returning. Judging from my last experience, I didn't think it was too great so I was curious to see if my opinion had changed. At this time, Saigonese is not offering indoor dining - but they have a small area on the side of the restaurant with some tables set up which is quite nice. Due to the pandemic, they're using paper menus and having us circle what we want to order. There's a number of dishes on the menu, with special focus on traditional Vietnamese dishes. We decided to start with the fried spring rolls; these were pretty good - they were a good size and came with a number of pairings and sauces. For my main, I wanted phở - the chicken one stood out to me so I went with that. The dish was very good - the broth was flavorful and all the components worked together very well. There was also a good amount of chicken which I was happy to see. Service was fast, and overall my most recent experience at Saigonese totally usurps my initial visit. No food at the house on a rainy day, let's get pho takeout! Me and my boyfriend got the papaya salad to share, him the pho noodle soup combo and myself the central style spicy beef soup. The food packaging and presentation were very well done. However, whilst looking delicious, the flavors and textures were really super duper bad. The papaya salad had a light vinaigrette (sweet and clear) but no fish sauce, lime juice nor chilis to give that usual pop, moreover the sliced green papaya strings were too ripe making them hard and crunchy (just odd texture), the sliced shrimp were boiled and halved with no flavor. His pho soup combo, had a lot of meat but the broth was bland and lacked the presence of spices (ie star anise, clove, cinnamon, fennel, coriander, cardamom), and the noodles undercooked (maybe in take out the broth wasn't hot enough to finish cooking them). My spicy beef soup was the worst I've ever had in my life, the flavor was overwhelmed with clove and no other flavors can be tasted with an odd fish taste at the end. It also tastes super old, as if they were cooked days ago and just heated up for this bowl. The broth makes me nauseous. We also asked for extra lime but instead they gave lemon wedges. Needless to say we were highly disappointed and ended up just taking a couple bites before deciding to go grab Chinese take out across street. We've driven by this place many times always wondering if they were good and sadly learned the hard way, not good. read more

We had them yesterday but I had forgotten to check into this business due to bad wifi. It's close to the Hartsdale NY cemetery so we felt it was a good place to have a family meal together before headed or our separate ways. Long story short! Pho was good, their Vermicelli rice noodle bowls with my pick of lemongrass beef was a bit chewy. Their spring rolls the fresh ones okay. Fried ones were different from what I was use to but acceptable. Overall three stars. Had a craving for banh mi so I (more or less) made my whole family stop by Saigonese. We each got a pork banh mi with a summer roll to share and it was fine. Not bad but not great. I would question my opinion more as I am far from Vietnamese but I used to work in Chinatown and have had many a delicious, authentic banh mi in my day - yes I know Chinatown isn't Vietnamtown - so I know it wasn't me. A great pho treasure. The broth is stand out! It's so rich and very different depending on the dish unlike some other chain noodle shops. I get the pho ga and appreciate how the chicken is tender and shredded. They give the perfect ratio of noodles and broth too. It's an intimate space meaning the tables are really crowded together. Absolutely awful customer service from a joke of an owner. They served a dish that's supposed to have spring rolls and pork and shrimp over vermicelli, but it's one spring roll cut into four tiny pieces, a small piece of pork, cut in tiny pieces, and one shrimp also cut into two small pieces. When I mentioned to the server that the dish looked quite disappointing, as I've had this dish at other restaurants and this isn't what I expected, she sent the owner over. He had a wildly horrible attitude and was defensive and angry at me because I called him out on his tackily cheap food. His version of customer service was to aggressively explain, "all restaurants are different and that's how we do it." There was no offer to try to do anything at all to make things better, so I might enjoy his restaurant. I guess his idea of customer service is to scream at unhappy customers to make sure we won't be back again. I should also mention that the place was dirty, with bugs crawling on the windowsill.
