I've used dr Kaufman for 2 colonoscopy and he removed polyps. I did wake up with the cord up my butt but couldn't move for a minute but finally reached over so they knew I was awake. I didn't feel any pain, thank goodness. I didn't wake up in a good mood like I did the first time. I missed the follow up phone call or I would have told them the meds wasn't pleasant. I haven't had problems with the office staff but now they tell you when their telephone is on and will answer the phones. At Hoag Irvine ER visit the gave the name of Paul s Park but forgot I had an gastrointestinalist. read more

I had a Colonoscopy procedure today, I went to the wrong location and front desk called and very nicely told me where to go and rushed everything so I can get in on time. They are busy but very organized. I had a great experience, Dr. Kaufman came highly recommended by my Physician and I can see why. From front desk to the nurse that prepped me, she did the IV very easily, I always have a very hard time to even give blood. Surgery nurse Jessica was super nice, procedure was done and the nurse that dismissed me was very professional and went over everything . Doctor Kaufman came and saw me at recovery and I was done. Highly recommend this office. I had to reschedule my appointment three times, they are professional and get the work done but don't have time to be your best friend. I rather for them to be focused and get the job done with no mistake instead of being super friendly. My husband also goes to Dr. Kaufman and few years ago when he had an emergency Dr. Kaufman called me and told to rush him to emergency room and that saved my husband's life. read more

I hit 50 a few months ago. With a family history of various internal issues, I knew it was the appropriate time for my first colonoscopy. I put it off for months, like all of my buddies, until I read Dan H.'s review and of his experience. It really got me thinking that putting it off was no longer an option. I was going to get it over with once and for all. I had a referral to Dr. Kaufman and made my appointment. His office is run smoothly and efficiently. Dr. K. is pleasant to deal with and I felt good about my pre-procedure instructions. The prep-day in advance of the surgery was uncomfortable but not horrific. I would absolutely recommend AGAINST ever using this doctor's office I cannot say specifically if it is Dr. Kaufman, that is the problem or his staff but they are unresponsive they take over 20 minutes just to answer the phone and often disconnect before they even pick up, they scheduled me an appointment - They confirmed my appointment and then when I called to make a change because I broke my foot they said I had no appointment on the books even though I had an email confirming it and then I got several phone calls from the colonoscopy surgery center (not his office) confirming that I am supposed to be there the next day when I was already told I had no appointment (so it appears as if they scheduled it with the procedure center but the doctor never had a put it on his books so I would have gone through the entire preparation for a colonoscopy just to have this doctor not show up!).... it's just terrible. Their communication is awful. Their office staff is awful. They don't answer their phones, I absolutely would not recommend you go to this facility ever! Even the colonoscopy center, which is St Joseph's - made a comment on how awful their staff is. Buyer beware! read more

I have a history of gastrointestinal issues, and Dr. Kaufman was very well spoken, logical, and easy to talk to. I came in regarding some concerns with recent changes in my symptoms. He was quick to dispel any concerns I had with taking acid reducers, and told me there was no data supporting that long term usage of acid reducers lead to detrimental health effects. Which is great, because my continued usage of them now has greatly assisted in the relief of my symptoms. I was able to schedule my scope for a couple weeks after our appointment (which was perfect because I wanted it to be over as soon as possible), the prep for the scope was so much easier than the previous time I had to do it, thanks to his recommendations. The scope went swimmingly and the staff at the endoscopy center were all wonderful, Dr. Kaufman included. Due to the nature of these issues, I think it is very important to have a doctor that makes you feel comfortable talking about your issues, and makes you feel like your concerns are heard. Dr. Kaufman is great at delivering information in a pleasant and comforting way, but is also great at listening and confirming his interpretation of what you've said is correct. I feel very contented by the discourse we have had, and I am confident that he will continue to provide the high standard of care he has set for himself. read more

I would never recommend going to this office. The office staff is awful, rude, unprofessional, and unsympathetic to their patients. The office staff never answers their phones, and if they ever do by some miracle they put you on hold forever and then hang up on you so you end up having to start the whole process by calling them all over again. Once you get them on the phone which is pure luck if they answer the phone the staff have a very rude demeanor. When you ask them a simple question they tell you they will call you back with the answer, but seldom do; if they do, it is about a week to hear back from them. The most shocking part is how undereducated the staff is on simple questions about their office or knowledge of a medical procedure. You can find out more just by asking your question online by doing an online search. The doctor is also very arrogant. I find it odd he does not have a website or a better way of contacting their office. After this experience with their office, I canceled my procedure with them and asked them for an email confirming it was canceled. So happy I did because a few days later the surgery center called to confirm my appointment that I had already canceled with their office several days in advance and they never bothered to inform the surgery center I canceled my appointment beforehand. I am not surprised based on how horrible their office is run. I highly recommend going to another office where you will be treated with respect and your time and money will be valued. read more

Here's an update for this doctor who in my opinion should retire. His clear lack of empathy, rude chair side manner and arrogant disposition is enough reason. We went back after a couple of years thinking maybe the last experience was a fluke. It turns out that it wasn't. With the exception of one staff members, the rest are abrupt, impatient and clearly annoyed if you ask them anything other than how to pay. There are plenty of qualified doctors who actually care about their patients. We will not be going back to this guy. read more

This review is not for Dr Kaufman, but rather the impossibility of making an appointment to see him. He was highly recommended by my primary physician. The first time I tried to make an appointment, I waited 40 minutes before someone even picked up the phone. The woman actually did make the appointment for me, but then put me on hold again (for unknown reasons as she didn't ask, she just placed me on hold). After 30 more minutes of waiting, I was disconnected. At this point, I should have taken my business elsewhere, but I guess I am a glutton for punishment, so I called back. 2nd time wait: 35 minutes, then system automatically disconnected me. 3rd time: 15 minute wait, system disconnected me. 4th time: 33 minute wait, and got a live person named Jessie. I asked if there was something wrong with their phone lines, and explained my wait times. She was unsympathetic, and said that they are short-staffed, and that they try to answer the phones in between seeing patients and just "put patients on hold until they can get to them." This seems like a horrible business model. I asked if there was an office manager? She then proceeded to put me on hold again. This time, I hung up. No doctor, however brilliant, is worth this. I am giving 2 stars as this isn't against Dr. Kaufman's medical skills, as I never got the opportunity to see him, but am still giving a critical review as it is ultimately his office and he should know what is going on and rectify if. Completely agree with Susan F's review and recommend AGAINST going to this office. read more

Dr. is OK, but when then time came to see him about an urgent issue, they pushed me 3-4 weeks out AND said that they don't take my PPO insurance any more. Crazy to give a colonoscopy 5 stars, but Dr. Kaufman made it as easy as possible. At age 57 I pushed it off long enough. After getting an order from my primary physician, I made a preliminary visit to Dr. Kaufman for a consultation. He has very thorough in describing the prep work and the procedure without getting me nervous. Also got all of the insurance paperwork out of the way so as not to worry on "game day". The prep: I was more afraid of this than the procedure, but it was nothing. The work didn't really start until Noon the day before and it was taking a few laxative pills and drinking a bunch of Gatorade mixed with Miralax. The Procedure: Got there 10 minutes before my 7 AM appointment and the waiting room was full of 50+ year old nervous guys. They took me into a private area and put in a tiny I.V. to administer the sedative. A nurse explained the process in a very comforting way and they rolled me into the room where Dr. Kaufman answered all of my questions. By this time I had none. In went the sedative and the next thing I remember is waking up. Never felt any discomfort other than slight grogginess and felt fine afterwards. No problems, no worries. If you are 50; get it over with. read more

I met with Dr. Kaufman today. I had not seen him for almost four years when he prescribed some meds for me that helped change my life. He is like no other doctor I have met with...ever. First, he sees you on time which is refreshing. Before he sees you he reviews your file so when he comes in he "knows you" He asked me relevant questions as to how things had gone over the past four years and made me feel more like a family member than a doctor. He gave me a clean bill of health and answered all of my questions. As a lawyer, I pride myself in trying to connect with my clients and make them feel comfortable. Dr. Kaufman does exactly that. I had my colonoscopy with Dr. Kaufman today, and I highly recommend him. We had a facetime consult a week ago, and he patiently answered all of my concerns and questions. The prep for the procedure is the easiest prep I have ever had, and I have had quite a few. He has made the prep easy and today was a breeze. He was right on time, and the staff at the Hoag Endoscopy Center couldn't have been nicer. I had questions in the afternoon, and phoned his office and received a call back within an hour. Dr Kaufman himself is very caring, asked me to explain to him in detail what was going on with me and check everything. I have had three colonoscopies done by Dr. Kaufman. I required having an anesthesiologist because of weight and other concerns, and he has always had one. (I don't know whether it is his policy not to have such, not saying that at all, but he helped me as I needed and desired one due to advise, as well as his). The procedures have always been very smooth, and other than the obvious lead in, as good as anyone would want. He's a very good doctor to interact with. So far have had no problems with him in any way. I see other reviews that have I think dinged him for things that are things that happen in billing. But his medical practice is the best, as is the group he's in (working at his outpatient center, and @ Hoag Hospital). My last procedure required me to move at the last minute at Hoag, and the change was done very quickly to the hospital. I know it was a lot of work for his staff, and they were the best as well. He is the best and I plan to continue with him now on out. read more

Unfortunately, if you have a problem or his prescription make you worse he does not return your call or let you come in on an emergency appointment. I called him four times in 10 days. Ended up in the ER because of my pain level. When he finally called he was rude and seemed annoyed that I had even called him. I do not recommend him. I personally prefer to use a doctor who is available when you get sick not just for routine check ups. read more

DR Kaufman has sent my $181.95 bill to collection agency despite his office telling me multiple times not to pay the bill till they send necessary documents to my PMO Blue Cross insurance as their original insurance claim lacked my medical history regarding the same medical treatment. I have been under treatment for abdominal pain since 2016. My Primary DR referred me to DR Kaufman for second opinion on 3/27 and he suggested to do the Endoscopy. My previous treatments included CT abdonimal, Ultrasound and taking medication with no successful result. I called Dr Kaufman's office multiple times including 9/25/17 and 12/15/17 (Talked to Merry), in both cases, I was told not pay the bill as they are going to call my insurance and will be sending the necessary documents. I was told to wait for their call back which never happened. I also contacted DR office via NextMD portal on 12/10 with no success of getting any response. His practice and how his office handles patients are unprofessional and frustrating. I just received a letter from collection agency for the remaining balance with additional interest rate added. The bill even includes the co-payment that I already sent for the amount of $15.51 for office visit on 3/27. I have spent so much time on this matter with no success in having Dr Kaufman to respond to any of my inquiries. I am getting desperate so wanted to seek advice on how to deal with Dr Kaufman and his office. Not sure what to do!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Kaufman by my primary physician to do Colonoscopy and Endoscopy. My Dr. and Dr. Kaufman are in the same building. I walked in to schedule the procedure and the office staff asked me to come back another day to see Dr. Kaufman, which I was wondering why. My Dr. already checked me out and this is a preventative procedure anyway. I told the staff to make sure every charge goes toward preventative care due to the fact that my insurance deductible covers preventative care and I am not suppose to pay any thing and she assured me that she will check everything. A few days later I made a visit, met Dr. Kaufman. He seemed to be a nice gentleman; we had like 5-10 minutes of conversation and asked some routine kind of questions which already were answered in my forms. A few weeks later I received a bill from Dr. Kaufman's office. Called my insurance to inquire about non payment and I was told that consultation was not part of deductible due to the fact of not being part of routine. I called the staff to inquire about it. When I asked about my earlier comment about preventative coverage I did not receive any logical answer and she was kind of impolite about it. I did not need any consultation due to the fact it was already done by own physician and Dr. Kaufman could easily ask to see my record. I canceled my procedure schedule and requested a credit for NON requested consultation. Now the bill were sent to collection. I am wondering why some Dr. offices have the right to charge anything they want without any explanation and ignorance of explaining prior to charging. Who gives them such a right? Wondering why do I have to pay for something that I did not request or needed. This was NOT an emergency and I already made it clear prior to seeing Dr. Why it was simply ignored. read more
