This is a family company and it was David's brother and sons who led the team. Everyone on the site knew their job and were professional, quick, and friendly. We had lots of areas of wood rot on our older custom home due to water damage from dysfunctional rain gutters. David had to replace several huge beams and rebuild a couple of decks for us. The repairs looked good as new! He primed all the work so its ready for paint, they also did some interior drywall for us that was patched very well, like they weren't even there. Some of the exposed ends of the cosmetic beams he was able to splice and repair, rather than replace the entire thing. He also put metal caps on the exposed areas to prevent weathering. David was very honest about what we could save and what was too rotted. See pictures. read more

From the very first contact with David Varela and his team of professionals, the extensive wood replacement project (to support a re-roofing project) and installation of a new side door project (wood door rotted out and warped) went exceedingly well. David came to evaluate and estimate the level of wood replacement required (it was significant, perhaps around 80% needed replacement) and was very personable and patient as I asked him questions. David provided a very fair cost estimate and let me know when he could schedule the work. With the leaking roof (especially after tropical storm Hilary in Aug), I really wanted to get the projects done in October, but David's schedule and the roofer's schedule were extremely busy with projects and November was the earliest he could put this project in his queue. Imagine my surprise when David called to say that he could get started with the project many weeks earlier and work on the project as his crews had time, depending on how other projects were going. As I know well from other projects, there are sometimes surprises once you start removing rotted wood, so I'm sure that some projects take longer than others. Anyway, I so appreciated him calling to get his best team started on the project in Oct and completing the roofing wood replacement before the roofing contractor started their work a month earlier than they had scheduled! Without David's help in starting the wood project a month earlier, there was no way that the roofers could also complete their project in October! Everyone in David's crews were professional craftsmen who know their trades very well and endeavored to do the work with precision. It was amazing to see them working at such heights (2-story home) and in such heat, non-stop. In addition, the installation of the new side door and making it fit properly proved to be challenging. The previous door was warped and seemed to stick a lot when opening and closing. But it looks like the door frame was also part of the problem. Also, there was no door seal at the bottom of the door. Now, the door opens so smoothly and is now well sealed from water and wind. Couldn't be happier! In addition, after each day's work, the property was left in very clean condition. It makes a huge difference to work with an excellent contractor with experienced and professional craftsmen. I would highly recommend David Varela's Construction and would not hesitate to contract with him again! Also, I forgot to add that my bank made a mistake in payments and said I needed to issue a new check. David was kind enough to stop by to pick up the second check. Then, my bank made a second error of paying both checks, which then required David to issue me a check. David immediately issued a cashier's check (so it could be deposited in my bank account with no hold) and dropped it by the next day! Honestly, I cannot say enough about what a responsive and great contractor David is. I have to say he's got to be one of the very best in the business. read more

It's unfortunate that I have to write a negative review after our initial interaction started out so well. When I first contacted this company to get an estimate on repairing termite damage around our house I received a quick response. David came out and provided an estimate quickly and at a good price. Once I hired David's company repairs were to take place on April 3rd. This is where it starts to go downhill. On April 2nd, the day before the repairs were to start, David thought it would be best if the repairs were postponed because it was supposed to rain on April 3rd. I understood the reasoning behind that decision and was okay with that. I was not given a new/rescheduled date so on April 5th I reached out to David, to find out what the new repair date would be, because I was also getting the house painted and needed to make sure the repairs were done before the painting. I continued to reach out to David through texts and emails and did not receive any type of response......until April 13th. Poof out of nowhere he contacts me to to see if we still needed the repairs. Uhhh.....no! He did apologize for the delay in responding by didn't offer any excuse as to what happened. Because I hadn't received any responses to my numerous attempts and not having a clue what happened with him I hired another company. It did cost me more then David's estimate but it needed to be done. It's too bad it turned out this way because as I said at the beginning it did start out well. read more

I hired David Varela to replace my rotting balcony with a shade structure, and to mount a Juliette balcony (aluminum bars) in front of the sliding glass door on the second floor that used to provide access to the balcony. David's quote was quite reasonable, and his crew did the entire job in one day! His crew moved my planters out of the way and moved them back when done. I contacted David to give me an estimate on replacing some wood facia and termite damaged wood trim around the exterior of my home. David showed up as scheduled, and his estimate was by far the lowest I received. Since I was married to a contractor for 25 years, I know to check contractors licenses and workers comp insurance and David Varela passed with flying colors. I hired David and asked if he could possibly do the job asap since I was having other exterior work done and would prefer Davids work be done first, if at all possible. David was able to accommodate my request, and showed up on time, on the agreed upon date, with his crew of 3 hard workers. The 4 of them spent the majority of the day doing my work, and I could not be happier with the end result. I am a perfectionist, and frequently disappointed with the quality of work done when I hire contractors who talk a good game, but don't deliver. Not the case with David! He is the real deal, and the repairs were done flawlessly! The guys working for David were polite, knowledgeable, and talented with their craft. They are true professionals, and it shows.
