I called four electricians for estimates to upgrade our service panel from 100 to a 200 amp panel. Albert was the only one who came to give me an on site estimate. The others gave me a verbal estimate over the phone. I told all the companies I called my city's building dept. to ask the amount of the permit ($118) and would pull the permit myself. One company employee argued with me that it would cost more than that. I did not select that company. My reasoning is if I start off disagreeing with the company initially, what would happen during the rest of the project? Albert clearly explained the work he planned to do, the brand he would be using, and gave me a timeline. Albert coordinated with PG&E and arranged a smooth transition to disconnect and reconnect my upgraded service panel. Because of the way my old house was originally wired, PG&E required a junction box for the old wiring before being connected to the new service panel. Albert gave me a choice between a metal (more expensive) or plastic junction box (less expensive). Both are approved by current electrical code standards. I chose the plastic box. The City inspector passed Albert's installation on his first inspection. Albert was communicative and did not try to upsell me other services. In fact, because of a time line deadline, I considered using Albert's stucco person but Albert knew I was handy and told me I was capable of doing it myself. If you are looking for an honest and hard working electrician with integrity, I would highly recommend Albert from David Electric. I contracted with David Electric to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage for an EV charger, which included a 20+ feet run from the main panel through the crawl space and garage rafters. For the first meeting, he was very professional in his communication letting me know well in advance of his availability, and was extremely punctual in his arrival. When evaluating the scope of work, he spent a good 45+ mins to carefully evaluate the site, run multiple scenarios (highlighting cost implications), make necessary adjustments based on my preference, and provide a final recommendation that checked all the boxes of my needs. I really liked that fact that he was recommending to go with higher quality materials (Romex wires and mix of EMT and metallic conduits throughout the whole garage section), which some of the other electricians did not want to use due to additional cost. Even with the better materials, Albert's quote was actually very competitive, which was why I decided to work with him. He is also genuinely a caring person as before the work began, he took the time to provide a list and photo of EV charger mounts that he saw some of his previous customers use so that it saved me time in searching for one that fits my garage setup. Albert also made sure that the inspection was scheduled in a way that made sense for my schedule and was very flexible in making updates as needed. What really stands out about Albert is his work ethic. On the day of the project, he made sure that he was not skimping on any details and was very patient with all of my questions so that there were no surprises throughout the process. The bar that he sets for himself is extremely high, and he plans very carefully so that there is no unnecessary work or detours needed, and I could see that he takes great pride in his work. He scheduled a date well in advance, arrived at the time that he originally communicated (9am), and completed the work well ahead of schedule. Overall a fabulous experience from end-to-end. The city inspection experience was also smooth, which reflects Albert's experience in working with the city of San Jose. Albert arrived ~15 mins before the inspection window to prepare - opening up the junction boxes and confirming the work once more in anticipation of the inspector's questions. I had a short in my landscaping system recently - awoken by the Fire Department at 4am in the morning which was frightening. I had bought the house recently and did not notice that the lighting system was driven by a small transformer plugged into an external outlet. The lights were working but what me or the prior owners had not realized is that the wiring from the transformer out to the lights was degenerated and exposed. So this caused a short and heated the tanbark, causing blackening and smoke. Luckily someone was out and about and noticed the smoke. The SJ FD came out and watered the tanbark, which luckily had not become a fire. More fortunately it remained several feet from my walls so it did not affect the house. The transformer was unplugged but I scrambled that morning to find an electrician to come out there to make sure that there was no problem with the outlet where there was a risk to the house. Meigs at Hewitt Electric, who I hold in high regard, referred me to Albert. Albert can within several hours and looked inside the outlet to confirm that there were no melted wires or anything to suggest wall involvement. He was very friendly and professional, and I intend to use his services in the future. It is not easy to get someone on short notice but he obliged. His price was also very reasonable. Along with my recommendation I would also urge others to look at their electricity use inside and outside the house for fire risks. Old landscaping systems or other exposed wiring can be a large problem. Obviously one cannot prevent every fire but at least one can eliminate obvious risks. To me a risk assessment should be done every few years. read more

Our new home needed a major electrical upgrade. There was no grounding and the lighting throughout the house was very minimal. I was calling around for electricians and at the time, they were all in high demand and booked out for weeks. I've hired Albert, for numerous jobs over the past 2+ years and he's never disappointed me yet. He first installed a new 200A panel for me. He took care of everything and he finished in one day. My townhouse was built in the 80's. Over the past 17yrs I've had several shorts occur (a receptacle melted, a switch burned up and a wirenut melted) The breakers never tripped. I assume it was faulty receptacles, switches or connections in gang box in the wall. I had another short a few days ago and and could not locate it myself. I called a electrician I knew (who does commercial) and was referred to David Electric. I called left a message and Albert called me back quickly. He came out the next day he was on time and ready to work. As soon as he opened the door on my breaker panel, he told me it was a major fire hazard and needed to be replaced. The panel was known to not trip a breaker when it should and thus wires in the house get hotter and hotter in an overload situation until there is a failure - just like I had multiples times in the past. I later looked up the details on the panel (Zinsco GTE-Sylvania) and found many reputable sources and news articles indicating the breaker panel had been recalled/pulled from market in 1984 (4 years after my home was built) and was a major fire hazard. Albert quoted me $1500 to replace the panel with my choice of Siemens or GE panels labor, parts, and tax all-in. (I looked up pricing and in the Silicon Valley that is a fair price.) Permit was all set. He even offered to do the online application for the permit. He then proceeded to find where the short was and gave me a very good quote for that too. He spent 2 hours searching and troubleshooting, including working in the attic. The repair took another hour in the attic and about 30 mins rewiring two sets of switches in the primary bedroom. (troubleshooting, new wire, materials and repair $380) He noted I had a freezer in the garage and offered to put a new dedicated circuit GFCI receptacle in for that which would reduce future break trips as my garage and primary bedroom were all (unfortunately) on one circuit and thus spread the load out. (new receptacle location parts and labor $160). David was friendly and very respectful of my home. He was neat and clean, cleaning up after himself. He communicated with me and answered my questions. I did ask for an estimate and he gave me numbers via text message which was fine. He did give me detailed written invoices. He communicated via text message quickly and clearly. His pricing is very fair based on what I saw in the marketplace and I have no doubts that his work was to code and done very well and professionally. He's a nice guy and just wants to do a good job. I would absolutely call Albert and David Electric back if I need any further electrical work. I'm so happy with his work, I'll be recommending him to my Homeowners Association as we have 10 other townhouses with the same dangerous breaker panels. read more
