We came in for Bill Maher show a while ago. We never come to MGM because the old hotel smoke problem is so horrible. But we had to walk through the casino to get to this theatre. The theatre is massive but the seatings for party of 4 are so cramped. Why did they think 4 people could fit in there! Hubby and I are not exactly big! Good thing was we were allowed outside drinks. The concession stand lines were too long. Anyways Bill Maher was fantastic as always! Hopefully his next show we are going to is a better venue! read more

Prior to coming I read different reviews and there are relevant points that the show is dated. If you're of a certain age it's also nostalgic, like the original Star Wars. He does use a lot of sanitizer, but he does it in a funny way. Some said he's a germaphobe, but not sure if I agree. He ate out of someone's popcorn. He does a Martian bit where he incorporate his story about his dad. There may be truth embedded in the story, but at the end of the day it's entertainment. We enjoyed the show. We came yesterday (Thursday) with friends who received free tickets to this show. I'm really disappointed. I now understand why the tickets were free. The energy level of the cast and crew were something I was expecting from David Copperfield. The storyline about his father lacked sincerity. The alien character seemed juvenile. His audience engagement with those whom English isn't their first language was borderline mean. The illusions with the car & UFO were really cool, hence the 2 stars. I've watched David Copperfield's show twice, many years apart. David's a legend and I enjoyed his shows each time. The show is good for all ages and it's fun how he involves the crowd. Recording isn't allowed during the show so you're expected to put your phones away. Reserving seats through the MGM app was easy and the check in and security process was simple. I recently saw David Copperfield at MGM Grand and had mixed feelings walking out of the theater. The illusions themselves were incredible to witness in person, and a couple of them honestly left me scratching my head hours later trying to figure out how they were even possible. That said, the show moves at a surprisingly slow pace. There is a lot of dialogue and storytelling between the tricks, which sometimes felt a bit unnecessary and slowed the momentum. Copperfield is obviously an icon and it was genuinely cool to see such a legendary performer live, but the overall energy of the show felt a little subdued and at times he seemed somewhat disengaged. The magic itself is still impressive enough that I'm glad I went, but it didn't quite have the fast paced excitement of some of the other shows on the Strip. read more

The effects are largely the same and dated. The animatronic yoda doll and weird father/son story is the weirdest thing. Seriously. Creepy, mumbley, cringey. Aside from his glory days being behind him, his POLITICAL commentary is awkward and misplaced. You can barely understand what he is saying AND he has his script written on the floor. I thought this would be an easy show to count on but it's the worst one I've seen in Vegas -- and I've been to see Mac King! I have mixed feelings about this! My dad saw David Copperfield in Vegas years ago and I think he loved it. I grew up watching and admiring David Copperfield so seeing his show live in Vegas was something I was excited about! Our boss got us tickets to a Friday show at 9pm and the theater was about half full! The show itself, I think it was alright. So he did not do much of the traditional or the typical David Copperfield tricks at all. I feel that a lot of his tricks now is digital and I don't know how hard it is to use trick via tapes and computer and machine..... Though, he did make appear a few things. Also, it is more of a talk show now and I understand he's been doing this for soooo long now, maybe he's not that into it anymore because I can see or feel it when he was on stage. I met David Copperfield many years ago when I worked at a movie theater. He was very nice, humble, kind, and smiled. I have wanted to see his show ever since and I am glad I did. There were moments that I cannot describe to you because they were unbelievable even though I saw them with my own eyes. The show is based around a dream, which works so well, because so much of the show blows my mind. There were many participants from the audience. David took the time to elbow bump many and said hello to many more. The audience was silent throughout most of the show. That is a rarity in Vegas. We tend to talk to each other, point things out to one another, etc. This audience was captivated from start to finish. I highly recommend the show. It's one you shouldn't miss. read more

David Copperfield is a living legend. Full stop. If you've spent any time in magic, you owe him a nod--the man practically is the Mount Rushmore of modern illusion. But here's the thing: when you've got unlimited resources, a Las Vegas stage, and decades of reputation behind you, the show should hit harder than it does. Yes, it's entertaining. Yes, the alien automaton bit is a clever sci-fi twist on Robert-Houdin's mechanical marvels. But in 2025, does that really make you lean forward in your chair? Or does it feel like the magician equivalent of playing your greatest hits album on repeat? The problem isn't the craft--Copperfield still delivers with precision. The problem is the risk. This is Las Vegas, the city where Siegfried & Roy brought tigers onstage, where Penn & Teller gleefully dismantle the form every night. Copperfield, meanwhile, feels like he's playing it too safe. I couldn't help thinking: what if M. Night Shyamalan wrote the show? What if Neil Gaiman (Sandman's maestro of the surreal) lent his pen to the script? Suddenly you'd have myth, narrative, and danger woven into the illusions instead of what sometimes feels like nostalgia on autopilot. Would I see it again? Honestly--nah. For a bucket-list first time, sure. But for repeat viewings, I'd rather see a show that gambles a little more with its audience, one that takes the risk Copperfield himself took decades ago when he made the Statue of Liberty disappear. Respect to the legend. But legends shine brightest when they keep surprising us. Magic should make you believe the impossible is possible. Every day another moron arrives in Las Vegas. You just have to find one who buys a ticket. To be fair, two of the tricks were genuinely good. The Cadillac and the UFO are big, solid illusions and not nearly as obvious as the classic "disappear on stage" routine. In this case, the magician vanishes, then slowly shuffles along the second-level seating wall like a 70-year-old man heading for a walker, climbs into a box, and magically "reappears." The problem is timing. The walk takes so long you could go to Excalibur, order a venti latte, and still be back before he pops out on the box. The hairpiece deserves its own mention. The color is so unnatural it's distracting. You spend half the time wondering who thought that shade was a good idea. The show itself feels lifeless. Add to that the constant surveillance by ushers and security making sure nobody even thinks about touching their phone, and the whole experience starts to feel less like a theater and more like Alcatraz back when it was still a prison. I always thought "Criss Angel at the Luxor" was the worst show I'd ever seen in Las Vegas. Turns out he now has real competition. At this point, you can choose between Copperfield, Criss Angel, or Frank Marino and waste your money in three different ways if you wish... (Marino made the money from the Make a Wish fundation disappear.. thats more magic then copperfield delivered) By the end, the only real question left is whether this is about money or ego. Sometimes it's better to stop while you're still on a high. Again, two of the tricks are big and impressive. Everything else is a tired collection of illusions I've seen dozens of times, wrapped in a cheesy alien storyline that goes nowhere. The theater itself is old and outdated, classic "Las Vegas seating." At least there's no pushy cocktail service knocking over your knees with overpriced drinks. Still, for a Sunday night, roughly 150 people in the house didn't help the mood at all. Save your money. Vegas has enough bad shows already. read more

This is definitely part of Las Vegas' magic; DC has been a fixture of MGM for more than 30 years. They allegedly pay him around $40 to $50 million a year for around 500 shows a year. So, there is definitely an element of repetition in this show. This said, the show sells a very positive vision of achieving one's dream. Some of the show's illusions are mind -blowing and really impressive. Body disappears, huge spaceship appears above your head out of nowhere. DC has managed to captivate and grab the attention of children and adults at the same time. For the most well-known magician in the world who has amassed a $1.2B net worth; the fact that he continues to perform at 69 is simply impressive and deserves our respect. Two to three shows a day is intense and requires discipline and true dedication. DC was once dating Claudia Shieffer a German super model and he is considered one of the wealthiest star in the world. We were simply grateful to witness one of the best performers in the world continue to perform his magic. It is true that he is an older man and that he may be less driven. But I personally hope that at the age of 69-70 I will be able to perform the way he does!!! read more

Let me start by saying my family was entertained for parts of the show but it had long periods that were cringeworthy. If you are ok with the ticket cost to see 6 or 7 actual tricks by a 69 year old magician, then go for it. Luckily our tickets were free. The not-so-good: Some of the illusions took a really long time to set up and were not that impressive (actors in the audience). Lots of trying to pull at your heartstrings to make you connect with him/the show, which didn't really work. He has his people run into the first few rows of the show wearing sweatshirts over their all black outfits, standing on boxes to get you to give him multiple standing ovations during the show. Many of the illusions are just photoshop and actors. It's hard to hear him over the music, even when he was asking the "audience" for answers. Some of the illusions required turning the studio lights completely dark for what seemed like a long time. Even the email was sent is a terrible photoshop job. He is obviously much older and heavier than in that photo. Last year we went to see Mac King and I enjoyed that much more. If you absolutely want to see DC, then go for it, but I'm glad I didn't spend any money on the DC tickets. read more

I loved everything about the show-performance, props, David's humor. My only complaint was the seating setup. I am not sure why 4 seats would be at a small patio like table for two people. Thankfully, there was an empty seat at the end of a row a few back that the nice gentleman usher moved us to. I feel like the bench table seats would be better. I saw David Copperfield with my friends at the MGM right after New Year's in 2025. I think the show lasted about an hour and 10 minutes. They have a strict no cell phones policy and you put your phone in a box on your table during the show. This show is moderately entertaining. The photos and videos are a little out of date and really so are the themes of the show which are his dream of reuniting with his childhood toy dinosaur and the little alien and the spaceship. I'll give him credit for being close to 70 and still doing 2 shows a night. He's clearly still putting people in seats whether this show is relevant or not. Copperfield was already the GOAT illusionist when he was young. Now 30 years of mastery later he's transcended to a different higher realm that is unrecognizable to a regular magician. He's got an alien ship flying around over the audience. He's got an alien friend who sends him back in time so he can tell his dad he loves him. The audience goes back in time too. Copperfield's childhood best friend, a dinosaur named Frank, appears out of thin air. Copperfield sends you a magic email. This is not an ordinary magic show. This final form of Copperfield has reached new levels storytelling and creating awe and delight. He is a level 99 mage. I loved it. read more

The man is 69 years old and barely mobile. Of the 90 minutes slated for the show, more than 70 minutes was blah...blah...blah instead of actually performing anything. I saw him twice before - 30 years ago and then 15 years ago. Not the same man. Obviously has some major medical issues. can't raise his arms above his shoulders, for example. The wig looks terrible, too. All very off-putting for the $250/2 tickets. Can't post any stills or videos since the program and he spent the better part of ten minutes warning us to dump our phones in his special box at every table - under penalty of being ejected by security. read more

I've seen a lot of reviews online about this show, and how DC was just going through the motions, or the sound was bad, blah blah blah. I tend to subscribe to the motto, "opinions are like azzholes, everybody has one." With that being said, I'll just leave my quick statement and move on. First, you need to go into the show with an open mind. David Copperfield is an entertainer. He is trying to put on a show to give you a memory that you can carry on with you for the rest of your life. In the show I went to on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the audience seemed to just be going thru the motions. David did everything he could to get audience members involved, and excited to be there. Some people just sat there and did nothing after he asked them to help him with an act. If you just want to sit there, that's OK, but maybe buy seats further away if you do not want to participate in the show. To me That's like going to a baseball game, sitting real close, then getting mad when a foul ball almost hits you. But..... with all that being said, I felt DC really tried his best to get the audience involved, and tried his best to entertain and provide everyone with a positive happy memory. People need to remember his show is full of illusions. Go to the show, have fun, laugh, and clap if you liked what you saw. If you don't want to have a good time, then maybe stay in the casino gambling, or better yet just stay home. It's a fun time for a night out. It really is. If having a fun time isn't for you, maybe try finding something else to do. And for those complaining about The sound...it was good, a couple words were hard to hear, but for the most part everything was audible, and my hearing really isn't the greatest. The only thing I could suggest to the sound guy is to maybe lower the music volume a tad bit during the parts when DC is talking so he can be heard 100%. DC is a legendary illusionist, and for him to want to continue to perform and entertain is simply mind blowing. He must absolutely love entertaining since he doesn't need the money. I came to watch David Copperfield's show after hearing about how amazing his shows were for years and to say my family and I were disappointed is an understatement. I think it's time for David Copperfield to retire because the majority of his show was just him talking and doing some weird storyline instead of magic and a lot of the tricks he did were underwhelming. Overall, this is a good show. I can't complain about the price because we got this as a gift! But just like what other reviews had said, the show is ok, but just not up-to-par with the old David Copperfield I remember seeing long ago. As mentioned in other reviews, I didn't understand the alien part. This is held inside the MGM Grand Hotel, and the venue is decent. It's "stadium-style" seating and you each sit at a table. We had great seats up close, but if you're in the back, you might be far from the action. He does call on random people, so beware if you're shy. Be cautious! There are tons of security watching the crowd for anyone taking photos or videos. We even saw a viewer being asked to leave. They request you all to put your phones in this box so you're not tempted to pull it out. Overall it's a good show. He is a legend, but you can tell David is just going through the motions.
