Would've been nice to know from Bjelica's office so I could find someone else to take over my endocrine treatment. Dr. Bjelica was a wonderful doctor. A rare mix of personal, state of the art care combined with a truly wonderful bedside manner. It will be hard for anyone to fill his shoes! My 5 star rating is for Dr. Bjelica. Unfortunately many doctors, fed up with the current business climate in California, are leaving the state. Dr. Bjelica is the 3rd of my providers to leave in just the last year. I was referred to this provider for a medical issue by my internal medicine Physician. I called and the front desk girl was so rude. Straight up, okay. I can get you in but it depends on your insurance. I tell her my insurance. Oh no, we don't take that insurance. Well, it's one of the Best insurances around, it's not an HMO. So I ask her again, can you please check? This is my insurance. It's not even in the state of California. She says no I can make you an appointment, but it'll be $443 upfront in cash. Needless to say, we won't be going here. With the response from this provider shows the ignorance of this office. It is not obamacare, insurance. This man does not know if I'm a woman or a man. I see Dr. Bjelica once a year for an ultrasound of my thyroid. I make the year-in-the-future appointment when I leave his office, and it's always on the appointment calendar a year later. No mistakes. His office staff is pleasant. He is knowledgeable, professional and efficient, and I happily give him a five-star review here. The office does not overbook his appointment calendar, which is nice. Dr. Bjelica was recommended to me by my primary physician, and I can see why. Very caring and thorough and I like that he looks for the cause of a health problem and doesn't just automatically prescribe meds to treat the symptoms. Went to see him for help regarding an issue with my labs, not only was he extremely rude and told me "if you ate a hamburger from inn-n-out, you would have to walk here to agoura hills to burn it off", but also told me I needed to cut my calories in half and calorie count despite telling him that I was a person with a binge eating disorder. Not only did he not recommend anything to treat the problem, but I walked out of the office extremely upset and crying, awakening a relapse and a binge. I wish I could give him negative stars. After 2-3 years of steadily gaining weight and going from 88 pounds (my normal) to 121 (totally abnormal for me) and being told that it must be menopause or my poor dietary choices and lack of exercise (I'm vegan and was going to karate 6 days a week and strength training 2 times a week) I went to a holistic doctor who told me he thought I had hypothyroidism and to follow up with my endocrinologist. He ordered labs and screamed at me over the phone that there was nothing wrong with me, my numbers were in range, and my holistic doctor shouldn't practice medicine. I made an appointment with Dr. Na Shen At UCLA who told me after one meeting that I was classic hashimotos hypothyroidism, put me on levothyroxine and cytomel, and I'm currently back down to 95 pounds and feeling like myself again, no thanks to Dr. Bjelica. PS He sent me a threatening, bullying letter attempting to intimidate me and force me to remove my 100% true review once he noticed it. Please see attached photo. Totally deplorable. read more

I'd like to share my experience with Dr. Bjelica. Here is why I am giving him one star (since zero star is not an option): 1- I saw Dr. Bjelica in 2019 for my thyroid disease. He put me on a very high level of Levothyroxine from the get-go that I started experiencing fatigue, weight loss, extreme sweating, and feeling jittery after two months. Finally, I switched to another doctor who put me on half the initial dose Bjelica prescribed to me. It turned out that my symptoms were as a result of overmedication. I have hard copies of every single test result to prove it. 2- Poor bedside manners. Dr Bjelica, in my opinion, has inadequate listening skills. In every appointment he interrupted me while I tried to explain him my symptoms and concerns. 3-Dr. Bjelica sent me a bullying message via Yelp to intimidate me and threatened to sue me. A few people contacted me that they also received similar messages from Dr. Bjelica. Here is what he wrote to me: "Please remove this inaccurate post immediately. My attorney is currently investigation all these reviews for possible Libel and Defamation law suits. You IP address is also noted and is being recorded. Keep in mind that Yelp will not spend a single penny to defend you in the court of law. I personally don't like to sue anybody but my attorney will seek all legal remedies to punish those responsible for spreading false claims and smearing my business. If you continue to keep this post please contact your attorney and have him advise you about Libel law suits so you can not say that you were not warned. Sincerely, David Bjelica MD". I reported it to Yelp and blocked him. All in all, I am utterly disappointed in Dr. Bjelica for all the reasons I itemized above, especially, the bullying message he sent to me. None of us should feel unsafe and uneasy to share our personal experiences on Yelp or any other on-line review platform. Everything I wrote came from my own personal experience. If I could give Dr. Bjelica 10 Stars, I would. I came in with a major medical emergency. My hyperthyroidism had gone untreated for months after being warned by my primary care physician. I finally started feeling horribly enough I went to see Dr. Bjelica. He is very knowledgeable and I am grateful for his treatment. He began treatment for my Graves Disease and immediately I started feeling better. It's been over 6 months now that he's been treating me and I am very pleased with how far I've come. I have never had such an amazing doctor as Dr. Bjelica. I feel very lucky that I have him as my endocrinologist. He is incredibly knowledgeable and not only does he look at the moment at hand, but years in the future as well. After having an ultrasound and biopsy and being told by another Dr. that everything was good, I saw Dr. Bjelica who diagnosed me with an autoimmune disease that affects my thyroid. He also did an ultrasound and told me that the nodule I had was suspicious. He did a biopsy and he called me next day to tell me it was cancer. Referred me right away to surgeon. This doctor's prices seemed high for what i'm used to (cedars-sinai group). But this wasn't what turned me off. When my labs came in, their office receptionist called to give me the results, which I've never experienced (though maybe this is standard in some offices?). The receptionist couldn't answer any of my questions on the medication being prescribed, but acted like it was a strange request to talk to the doctor. "He's very VERY busy and he sees patients ALL day long" was her reply. "Okaaaay, I responded. I can talk to him anytime he's available." She said it would have to be later (no problem for me!) but still I felt like I was asking too much. Later, after a few minutes of talking to him, in the middle of a question, he let me know he couldn't spend any more time talking to me. Had he at least said he would call me back when he had more time I'd have fully understood. I may be spoiled with my other doctors but after having great experiences I feel I have sound perspective. I'm sure there are plenty of patients that think this doctor is just fine, but I'm the type of person who really appreciates a good bedside manner and expects a certain level of responsiveness that I just didn't experience with this office. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Bjelica for about 4 years for Thyroid nodules , hyperthydroidism and related issues. He has been fantastic monitoring my growths, ordering blood tests, and doing ultasounds and a biopsy in office. He is great at explaining the various issues in simple language, not in complicated medical jargon. I love getting answers during the same appointment , instead of having to see different doctors for each procedure like Cedars -Sinai and UCLA have you do. He's 3 + appointments in one, which translates to much less time , energy and angst for the patient. I really liked having Dr. Bjelica as a Doctor but I am really upset to find out that they discharged me as a patient over $ a $10 co-insurance payment I had no idea about. Now I am left to find a new specialist, while taking a medication that I have had no follow up on since beginning it. My last appt. with the doctor was in June and I wouldn't see him until later this fall after a few months on the new medication. At the last appt. I used my FSA card as I always do to pay my co-payment. I thought I was in the clear. From my understanding - aside from the co-payment, the $10 is something they would know at the time of the appointment and just later billed me. Got it. The office said they sent out letters to my home stating there was a balance due of $10 for co-insurance. I do not doubt this but my neighborhood USPS is notorious for missing mail and shipments. Also if it wasn't a clearly marked envelope I do not open it. I whole heartedly had no idea there were monies due and never spoke to anyone on the phone regarding this and like I said I haven't had a scheduled appointment since. Fast forward to yesterday - I receive a letter from a postal worker that I have to sign for. Came to find out that it was a letter stating I have been dropped as a patient. Today, I call the office to resolve the issue and give payment. Gave the woman my card number to clear the slate but still just to find out the doctor will absolutely not see me again and that it's not reversible. I get it if it was more money or if you had actually spoken to me and I refused to pay or continually put it off. They couldn't even wait to see me at a future appointment to let me know of the balance on my account in person? Where money is due I will pay it and I have now. But I feel really upset that the Doctor refuses to continue treatment all over $10 that I was honestly just not aware of. She said they didn't even bother to send it to collections due to the small amount due. Now I have to pick up back up, start over, and even check in about new medicine with a brand new doctor. I went to Dr. Bjelica after my previous Endo retired. I found him to be highly capable and up to date with the latest of everything. I am on medicare and still he provided me with detailed attention and time. I never felt rushed in fact I have felt uncomfortable at times about the time he provided. He has gotten me off nearly all of my diabetes meds and was instrumental in my losing 50 pounds. The complaints seem to be based on rude office staff, cost and time spent in answering questions. These things I have never experienced with Dr. Bjelica. What I would be concerned with is the medical treatment he provides and that is without doubt the best available. read more

This is the worst doctor on the planet earth! He walked into the room and patted my stomach and said, "THIS is your problem." He then told me I was the size of a Mac Truck and needed to be the size of a Mini Cooper. He yelled at me and asked me how I "allowed" myself to get this way. By then I was in tears. He then took my blood pressure and was mad at me because it was high. He was awful. I would not sent my worst enemy to him. Beware. He was so rude and unprofessional. Immediately following my one and only appointment, I sent him a letter expressing my extreme unhappiness with how he treated me. He replied with a letter saying that apparently "no good deed goes unpunished." He maintains he was trying to help me. Some help! If he posts specific information about my conditions and treatment, he will be violating HIPAA guidelines. I'm not sure what's up with the other reviews but I've had very good experiences with Dr. Bjelca. I have never been put on hold and have had to call daily to get blood test results. One Friday the doctor was not in to talk to me about my results but called me on SATURDAY to discuss them. He was very concerned about me and even gave me his cell phone number to reach him over the weekend. He ended up sending me to the ER and he was in touch with me and the ER doc during that time. I was able to text him the following day (Sunday) and he got right back to me. My GP who referred me to him said he was very thorough and after being sick for 9 months with no answers I did not mind his thoroughness at all. His office is gorgeous and lacks smells of any kind. Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about. Dr. Bjelca was able to diagnose my problem in a week after my GP and specialist at UCLA could not. He's a great doctor. read more

Dr. Bjelica is smart, impressive beyond belief, but leaving brains aside, certainly he gives quality care to his patients - more than that however he truly is concerned. After seeing another so called Endocrinologist I was Lucky enough to get referred by a very good Friend to the WONDERFUL Dr. Bjelica. I cannot begin to tell you how detailed and precise he was. He took notes on my current medications and really seemed to care about my serious diabetes issues. The other doctor I had seen told me I was going to need 3 shots a day and I was very upset. I have been in the care of Dr. Bjelica for over 2 years now. He is ALWAYS on time, has a beautiful office (no weird smells) and his front staff have always been friendly and helpful. I have felt much better since transferring to him. Yes, he lets you know when your blood work is not good, but when it IS good, he practically dances around the room. I feel he cares for my well-being. There is nothing wrong with telling a patient the doctor will return a call at the end of the day.
