I've been a patient at UCLA since I was born. I got a call from a debt collector saying I owe them $100 because of a missed bill from September 2025 even though I didn't go to the doctor at all in September. I checked my billing balance on MyChart and I owe $0. I then contacted their billing department and they told me that there's nothing they can do and I have to talk to the debt collector. I think that is really unprofessional that 1) They never sent an email or letter about my appointment bill and 2) They are so petty that they sent a debt collector to collect a $100 that I wasn't told about. For a hospital that is non-profit, they sure try to lie and take all the money they can get. After this incident, I've decided that I will never come back to UCLA health. read more

The most significant blessing I experienced in 2025, just two months before my 86th birthday was the efficient and effective Parathyroidectomy done by Dr. Michael Yeh on February 27. I'm here at Westwood delivering my baby with the UCLA OB team. They have been fantastic. The Endo team on the other hand have been completely disrespectful, dismissive, uneducated, and rude to me. I'm a type one diabetic who doesn't work with UCLA for that care. I had every intention of writing this review two months ago, but as an essential healthcare worker, the last two months have been... unique. The delay in writing the review only increased my confidence in a 5-star answer, though. Without my parathyroidectomy, I could not have kept up with the changes at work and in my community over the last two months. And, I'm still recovering and building bone density! Yay! Shout out to Dr. Haq at Sansum Clinic for catching my undiagnosed hyperparathyroidism in late 2019. For a dose of reality: I had some dysphagia afterward, and had to clear my throat for a few weeks. The scar is healing well - I've been the mobilizing scar tissue and using ScarAway silicone strips. I apply sunscreen to the scar when I don't have a ScarAway strip. My biggest fear was vocal chord trauma, and my dad say he likes my voice better after surgery. I saw Dr. James Wu for thyroid cancer surgery and can honestly say he is one of the best physicians I have ever seen and he saved and impacted my life. Surgery and thyroid cancer was a scary prospect as a busy dad of young kids but he led me through it. He is both a masterful surgeon and also incredibly kind and thoughtful. I think he has actually won awards for his humanistic approach. He is patient as well and responds to every question I have (some quite detailed!) and I get the sense he cares about me as a person. In fact, the first part of our first visit was him helping me as I was freaking out and steadily and kindly telling me I was going to be ok and showing me the data behind my condition and prognosis. I will never forget that moment and how helpful he was. He is also an incredibly skilled surgeon with a fellowship in complex neck/neck cancer from Sloan Kettering in New York and is very specialized towards thyroid and endocrine disorders. You get the sense that he is a real practitioner/craftsman and cares about developing his craft and is on the leading edge of treatment. He does clinical research and teaches Med School students which I think makes a great doctor as well. Dr. Wu is like the new Jedi in the Endocrine Center and even had this little silver case he brought to surgery with some cool tools or tech (I didn't ask what was in it because really... He performed a thyroidectomy on me. While doing so, he cut my laryngeal nerve, resulting in vocal cord paralysis. He also damaged my parathyroids, resulting in lifelong calcium impairment, He left remnant cancer behind. He damaged a shoulder nerve causing lifelong pain. This man is reckless. He was in rush to get me into surgery. Later I learned he embellished his surgical record. Do not, I repeat, do not let this man perform surgery on you. When confronted, he blamed statistics. Dr. Yeh performed a total thyroidectomy, central neck dissection and a left modified radical neck dissection on me on August 25th, 2020. The process of finding out I have advanced thyroid cancer began March 18th, 2020 when I went in to see my Primary Care Physician, Dr. Brining. I explained to her that I noticed a large lump in the front of my throat, which led to multiple ultrasounds and an FNA (biopsy) from Dr. Cheung-- all confirming the scariest news I have ever received in my life (and in true covid style: over zoom) I have thyroid cancer. I immediately broke down in tears because how could a healthy 25-year old athletic, organic-eating with no major prior health concerns and no history of cancer in her family woman get cancer? I still don't know, but what I do know is that the anxiety I felt trying to find a surgeon I could trust to remove my thyroid and the surrounding cancer-infected areas was consuming, is what prompted this review. I want to help whoever might be researching Dr. Michael Yeh as their surgeon make the right decision and see him. I just came back from my post-op visit with Dr. Yeh where he looked at my scars and examined my general health after being on levothyroxine, calcium and vitamin d. I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Yeh's surgical work is gorgeous and my 3 scars are already healing beautifully 2.5 weeks post-op. Dr. Yeh was even able to save my parathyroids, 2 of which are completely untouched and the other 2 were injected into my neck muscles ( I'm taking Calcium and Vitamin D until these wake up again, which should only be a few more weeks). The surgery took a little over 3 hours and of course I woke up in pain, but my recovery has been fantastic. I stayed 2 nights at the hospital and had family fly in to help me during my recovery. I started going on short walks the day after I was discharged from the UCLA hospital and I've been able to do more and more each day. My voice still gets tired if I talk too much and I try to speak at a softer tone to increase its' longevity, but even this is improving. The only downside I've experienced this far is moving my neck. My left shoulder and neck are not very mobile and my head is drooping a bit to the left due to the scar tissue-- this is pretty normal and with some physical therapy, I will be back to normal. Dr. Yeh cares about his patients and is calm, confident, caring, and incredibly experienced. I am so incredibly happy to have put my trust into Dr. Yeh and his surgical assistant, and could not believe I even considered going to Cedar Sinai for treatment, when Dr. Yeh is the best. I start radioactive iodine at the end of October, and although this is scary in itself, I'm confident Dr. Yeh took care of me, as he has with all his other patients and he will with you. As far as other reviews go, I generally don't write reviews on doctors, however reading some of the reviews about Dr. Yeh pre-op left me terrified, scared and confused. I ended up consulting with another surgeon at Cedars, for this very reason. However upon further investigation I understood that the horrifying and false reviews were all coming from a single source (this is why it helps to be social media savvy) and that that individual is likely in the business of extorting UCLA and Dr. Yeh, so please don't fall into this misplaced fear that I myself stumbled into. In September of 2018 I was diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid cancer. I was terrified, for I had just lost my husband a few years prior and had a teenage daughter to raise. Dr. Yeh was my Godsend. By the end of October, he had performed my lifesaving surgery and now, exactly two years later, I am still completely cancer free! I was very lucky that the scariest medical emergency of my life only lasted one month. I like to call it my "hiccup" in time. This review of Dr. Yeh is long overdue, but time should add clout to my review showing that a year and a half later, I am still cancer free. As soon as I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, I began doing research for the best thyroid surgeons in the LA area. After many hours reading up on doctors, I felt confident that Dr. Yeh was the surgeon for me. Unfortunately my HMO insurance at the time (Molina Healthcare with Regal Medical Group) was apparently the worst health insurance out there and would not cover any surgery with Dr. Yeh. After losing several appeals to Molina Healthcare, to my dismay, I had to settle with the 'best' general surgeon my health insurance would cover. Long story short, the general surgeon that they deemed adequate left a lot of disease behind; I was told I would need a second surgery. Ten months and a new PPO insurance later, I was finally able to see Dr. Yeh and his amazing team. It was night and day from my previous experience having thyroid surgery. I can't begin to describe how wonderful Dr. Yeh was throughout the entire process. Naturally I was scarred (no pun intended) from having such a bad experience with my first surgery, that I was incredibly nervous going into the second. But Dr. Yeh was so patient with me and took the time to explain all the steps and plans he had for the surgery. The surgery itself could not have gone better. Dr. Yeh cleaned up everything the old surgeon left behind and removed about 20 lymph nodes, 16 of those ended up being malignant (the old surgeon didn't remove any). Fast forward to my one year appointment with him to review my results, and I was absolutely overjoyed to hear my thyroglobulin level was right where we wanted it. Up until that point, I was so accustomed to hearing bad news for so long that this was the first time I can truly remember feeling relieved. He Performed my thyroid hemilobectomy, and being a doctor myself I was worried about all possible side effects... my surgery went very smooth and when I removed the strips I was shocked by how amazing the scar looked even after only 2 weeks! I had a benign toxic nodule that was 6cm! So the skin had to be open widely but it was barely noticeable even after 2 weeks! In March of 2018, Dr. Yeh performed a thyroid lobectomy for thyroid cancer and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The surgery went smoothly, and I was very happy with the outcome. A couple months later, I developed a separate condition called Graves' disease that required another surgery. While I thought I was going to have to wait a long time for an appointment, Dr. Yeh helped me get one right away. Dr. Yeh performed a completion thyroidectomy (to remove the rest of my thyroid gland) in August 2018. I am forever grateful for Dr. Harari, I believe she has provided me the best care for my thyroid cancer. Having cancer is so scary and incredibly frighting. I am 31 years old and I would have never imagined that I would have thyroid cancer, it took me by complete surprise. My previous endocrinologist referred me to a general surgeon to remove my whole thyroid. I knew that didn't sound right to me, I was given no options and I knew I needed to seek out a specialist to perform my surgery. I came across Dr. Harari online and I immediately booked an appointment with her. We met and I could feel her caring nature and knew she would be the right surgeon for me. Dr. Harari did an ultrasound on my neck and looked at my whole neck-not just my thyroid. She provided me with 3 options, we weighted the pros and cons of my options and left the decision up to me. I saw Dr. James Wu for papillary thyroid cancer, and he was the third doctor I met with to discuss my surgery and options. He took his time, explained everything thoroughly, and was willing to take the most conservative approach, which was to remove my isthmus only. He answered a couple of questions I had by email almost immediately during the pre-op stage, and on the day of surgery, he met with me before surgery and assured me that all would go well. I really felt confident that I was in the best of hands. Following surgery, I was relieved to find out that they were able to remove only the isthmus, as I had hoped for, and he felt confident they got all margins. He called me 2 days later as soon as he had the pathology results to let me know it was successful, and I was able to get on a plane and go on a work trip only 5 days post-surgery. My incision and scar is small and minimal, and overall I am just so happy with Dr. Wu's level of care, ease of scheduling appointments, etc. I will need to follow up with him over the next several years and there's no other doctor I would want to go through this process with than Dr. Wu. Also, the surgical center at UCLA and the whole nursing team were so organized, clean, caring, and attentive, I never felt like just another number. Dr. Lihvits recently performed a parathyroidectomy on my wife at the Santa Monica center. It was successful and we felt well informed all along the way. Over the past 2 years my wife has had an 8 hour craniotomy as well as women's surgery, and hand and elbow surgery on both sides as well as some diagnostic procedures. So we feel well qualified to review hospitals and doctors. My wife's endocrinologist recommended my wife see Dr. Lihvits, and my wife's primary agreed. This is because her calcium had been above normal for quite a while. We hoped we would like Dr. Lihvits because she comes out to Westlake Village. We researched her license and certifications and watched the video she and Dr. Yeh made on parathyroid surgery before the appointment. At the appointment Dr. Lihvits was very personable. She explained the anatomy and function of the parathyroid glands and then performed an ultrasound. At least one of her glands appeared to be enlarged so she ordered a CT and explained the benefits and risks of surgery. We went to Santa Clarita for the CT. Dr Lihvits called after that and explained the CT results as well as making sure we understood that she would physically look at all 4 glands during the surgery and decide at that time whether they needed to be removed or not. We booked the surgery and Dr. Lihvits called back again to ask if we had any more questions. Just prior to the surgery her PA called to go over the timing, and answer any additional questions. On the day of surgery we arrived and were quickly taken to the surgical area. After my wife was prepped I joined her and we waited. Unfortunately, there were some problems unrelated to my wife or Dr. Lihvits that caused a few hours delay. Finally, they took her and I went to the waiting area. As soon as the status board showed that my wife's surgery had started I went to the cafeteria. Interestingly I wound up sitting across from the chief of surgery who is, in some ways, Dr. Lihvits' boss. We spoke for a while and he gave Dr. Lihvits the highest recommendations. Obviously he wouldn't have said anything bad, but he went out of his way to praise her, which impressed me. Finally, I was able to join my wife in recovery, but she was still a bit out of it. I also spoke with Dr. Lihvits who was obviously busy but took the time to explain that she took 3 glands and a biopsy from the 4th one and we would see the pathology report soon. They kept my wife overnight because we live over an hours drive away and if my wife experienced any of a list of symptoms they would need to see her quickly. Fortunately all went well and I took her home the next morning. The staff caring for her was excellent and we went home with a clear idea of what to expect and what would be a danger sign. Also we got some scripts for painkillers, vitamin D, and calcium supplements. My wife had a little pain the first day and night, but after that she felt fine, her voice was normal, and she could eat anything. A bit longer than a week passed and we saw Dr, Lihvits again. She said everything went well, the pathology report showed nothing of concern, and told us to taper down the calcium supplement and finish the Vitamin D. Dr. Lihvits is very bright and was very personable with us. The scar from the surgery is minimal and with a caution to use sun block, were told it will be barely noticable over time. We certainly would go back to Dr. Lihvits if any additional endocrine surgery is every needed. read more

My name is Marcie Joseph, and I was referred to Dr. Yeh by my primary care physician Dr. Michael Hirt after I was diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism (tumor on my right parathyroid glands). As a very active person, I found myself feeling very drained, and being not motivated to do anything but sleep. After 9 months of different test, my doctor discovered that my calcium level was extremely high, so he reduced my thyroid medication, and sent me for a parathyroid test. Once the results came back, Dr Hirt called and referred me to go see Dr. Michael Yeh. After placing a call to Dr. Yeh's office, I knew right away that everything was going to be great because his receptionist Mojgan Bahari was very caring and professional. She got all my information and scheduled my appointment for the first available date which was August 12th 2019. After two weeks went by, I was feeling more fatigue than normal, so I called Mojgan back and ask if she would be able to change my appointment for a sooner date, she checked her schedule and notice that Dr. Yeh was returning to the office from vacation on August 5th 2019, so she scheduled me in for 3:30 PM that day. I was so excited because for nine months I've had nothing but discomfort and pain because the tumor was pulling calcium from my bones and sending it into my blood. On August 5th when I first met Dr. Yeh, I knew right away that I was in the best hands ever. He is a very professional and caring doctor, he looked at my results from the parathyroid test, then he did an ultra sound of my neck to confirm the findings of the previous test. After the test, he sat and chatted with me about my condition, he even noticed that I had a little accent and asked me where I was originally from, I told him that I'm originally from the Caribbean, he was excited and told me he had visited Ecuador once, and how it was such a nice place. Our conversation about the Caribbean was so refreshing, not doctor pays attention to their patients' accent, let alone cares to talk or listen to the patient's personal life. My friend, Shery Thompson went with me, and he also was talking with her, assuring her that I'll be back to my normal self after surgery. He took out a diagram of a thyroid and explained the entire surgery. I was very impressed and felt like I was just having a conversation with a longtime friend. Dr. Yeh is a very humble person, he reassured me that everything will be back to normal and I'll have my life back performing in my Ironman activities before I know it. He told his staff that he wanted me to have my surgery scheduled as soon as possible, and they were able to book me for August 22nd 2019. On August 22nd2019, the day of my surgery the entire staff at UCLA Medical Center Building 200 suite 660 were so welcoming to me. They did waisted anytime getting me prep from my surgery, the anesthesiologists, and entire UCLA staff at the out-patient procedure center were all very caring and wonderful. My surgery was a huge success, and I'm forever grateful to Dr. Yeh and his entire staff for giving me my life back. Because I live over 70 miles away from UCLA, Dr. Yeh recommended I stay overnight, and I'm glad I did because my nurse Maggie was a guardian angel, she took care of me the entire night. I would recommend Dr. Yeh and the entire UCLA staff to anyone who is seeking surgery and need the reassurance that everything will be okay because they may be a little scared. I'm now three weeks into my recovery and have since returned to work and my regular routine exercises like swimming, biking and running. I have had no side effects after my surgery, I'm all back to my normal happy energetic self. This weekend I have a race, and I'm so looking forward to getting out there and enjoying my life once again, I didn't have much training due the tumor, but it's all about living my life doing the things I love to do and have the freedom to do it. Thank you Dr. Michael Yeh and your entire staff, you are a God send to me and I know you are to many others also. Keep doing what you were ordained to do, and you will continue to be blessed.
