As soon as you sit down in David's NYC office, it feels like you're picking up a familiar conversation with one of your closest friends. It's non-judgmental, understanding and you leave wanting to come back. I spent time at Tiffany's, Cartier, Harry Winston, etc. And while the experience was nice, it just felt like I was buying a piece everyone already had, while paying a brand mark-up. A friend is someone who wants to share their knowledge with you, guides you with trust and is there for you. David is incredibly passionate and experienced in all aspects of jewelry, he patiently answered all my question from the ring to the accent stones to the center diamond. During the center diamond selection process, David didn't push me towards the most expensive stone, rather he suggested the one that best completed the perfect ring for her finger. At the end, I was also able to personalize small details of the ring, with guidance from David of course, so I also had a story to tell. Being involved in the creative process is not something I could have done at Tiffany's, Cartier, etc. What's even more incredible is that after the ring was complete, David and his team were able to recommend options for jewelry insurance and remain there to clean/adjust. We commissioned three rings from David Alan: a traditional engagement ring, and two wedding bands. Overall, we had an excellent experience, and are very happy with our rings! Our experience might be somewhat unusual, in that both partners were involved in the engagement ring design process. David had a real talent for translating our open-ended, somewhat general ideas into concrete designs for jewelry -- in our case, he seemed to understand just what we wanted for the rings. David was also able to deftly handle the business side of the transaction with just one of us, which was very much appreciated. The process of developing our wedding rings overlapped the coronavirus pandemic in New York. David was very accommodating throughout, and I think he worked hard to make forward progress on the rings during that time. Finding the right engagement ring for my fiance took so long that she actually became my wife long before discovering David Alan. After meeting David though, it was a no-brainer as to who would be helping us finally find the right engagement ring and wedding band. Long story short, my and my wife were engaged and then secretly married in a pretty short space of time whilst in the UK, before moving to NYC. We had over a year before we would be marrying (properly) so we took our time finding the right engagement ring and a wedding band. We met a few people, a few off the shelf designers and hit up the diamond district but it's a complete maze and you feel like you're getting shafted on price by people who see you as tourists. Not with David though. Perhaps unusually or not, me and my wife were both part of the process with David. I remember inquiring on the phone after a bit of Googling, for an appointment initially and talking with David in great detail over style, budget, personalities, stories etc... Our first meeting with David he started from the beginning of it all, explaining everything about rings and diamonds - this was useful for us. His passion is second to none and this shines through his work and the way he builds relationships. After that, we probably caused David a few headaches flip-flopping over designs and in our case, the budget! He was the most patient man who absolutely wanted to give us the right ring. What we settled on was by no means settling. It was perfect. It was everything we wanted from a ring, but more importantly perhaps was it was a process that we enjoyed being on. If we had picked up the exact same ring from a different place, it just wouldn't have meant the same thing. We came to David Alan for his expertise in hand carved jewelry to match my antique engagement ring and or my husbands custom wedding band. We also came to him because we really liked him as a person. He's so sweet to work with! He was able to compliment the style of my 1920's engagement ring and make a band with a perfect fit. My husband really wanted a wedding band with white turquoise which upon Davids advice, would fall out sooner than later because of its softness. However, David was able to accommodate us with his signature mens band that carries the stone on he inside, not the outside, and what matters most is that my husband knows its there. He loves it and shows it to everyone! We had called other jewelers about the turquoise and they all flat out said they were not interested, but David was very excited and ambitious to work with our ideas. My fiancé and I can't say enough about the experience David Alan Jewelry provided us. In looking for engagement rings we started with the common practice of visiting different NYC retail jewelry stores. Needless to say that left us dealing with non trustworthy salespeople, impersonal treatment, and overpriced rings. This, even at stores like Tiffany and Cartier (we would find out later just how much of a rip off these stores actually are). From the moment we walked into David's office we knew we found someone we can trust, someone looking out for our interest and not his own. David takes a very personal approach. First he spends time explaining and teaching about precious stones and all the various options out there. He then asks lots of questions knowing that every new bride-to-be has a different taste and dream. David is so patient and does an unbelievable job at figuring this out. Our first meeting was over an hour and not once did he try to "sell" us or pressure us like those fancy stores. By our second meeting at his cozy and comfortable office, he had thought up three options he thought would be appealing and he was dead on. All were fabulous and with his help we picked a style, shape and size range. At our third meeting, David brought to us a half a dozen stones for us to choose from. It took over an hour and as always David was super patient and supportive. Three weeks later the ring was ready, and my fiancé formerly proposed, and ever since every time I look down at the ring I still get chills. Almost everyone I interact with (and strangers too!) comment on how beautiful it is. Knowing what I know now, I really don't understand how anyone can go to the fancy retail shops. My ring is so personal and not cookie-cutter. Just as important is the value. My ring would be over twice as costly at the big named retail stores. David and his wife Helena (who works with David) were both such a pleasure to share this experience with. They are smart, thoughtful, fair, and 100 percent trustworthy. With no hesitation whatsoever I would recommend David Alan Jewlery and I'm so grateful to have gotten to share this once in a lifetime opportunity with them.
