There are so many different jewelers with their own booths and tons of people and diamonds everywhere. I had made an appointment with a jeweler in the booth next to Amsterdam Diamonds but was a little disappointed in both the service and selection. My boyfriend started talking to Robert in the next booth over and immediately connected with him. Robert's style is easygoing yet professional. He conveyed great knowledge of the market, explaining why price discrepancies exist among stones (beyond the basic "4 Cs"). He quickly procured a couple of GIA-certified diamonds that met our criteria (including the best price/value of all the stores we visited) and offered valuable advice on the relative advantages/disadvantages of settings. He curated a beautiful solitaire diamond ring with thin pave band. Robert is patient and knows the hard-sell is off-putting and rarely works. He was respectful of our budget and didn't try to up-sell us on another diamond or pull a bait-and-switch. For the stone we ultimately bought, he cross-referenced the paper GIA certificate with the online certificate downloaded directly from GIA's web site. And he helped us to locate the stone's laser-inscribed GIA ID #, using the loupe. The rest, as they say, was history.
