Magikid Robotics Lab Diamond Bar - 3D Modeling

Magikid Robotics Lab Diamond Bar

My 9Y son has been attending Magikid for some time now & still enjoys the class like it was day 1…read more He's always learning new material & able to clearly communicate what he has learned to us. The teachers are patient with him & always available to help out when he's stuck. Julia, the front office manager is always available, a text away when I have questions. Would highly recommend the center for kids that want to start their journey with coding, building robotics, and 3D classes.

Usually the first class is free but I did pay $30 - $40 for each trial class. My son didn't like the robotics class at all. He said the instructor was having a hard time keeping the kids engaged or on task. He also said the classroom was dirty and there were not enough parts or components so they had to get some from other rooms. As a new trial student you would think the instructor would give some background or guidance but he said there was no explanation or instruction from the instructor on what was going on. She was just helping kids that needed help or find parts for them. He knew one of the other kids in the class so he just sat next to him and observed (not sure why I had to pay for him to just sit & observe). He was supposed to take the coding class right after, but he was already done and didn't want to go back inside. We went after school on a Friday so he was already tired. Since I already paid for both trials, I rescheduled the coding class. They were very accommodating & rescheduled us a couple of times. He said this coding class was much better and the instructor was better. All the coding was done on the computer. My impression from the 3 times I walked in was it's chaotic: kids darting here and there and some parents picking up their kids. There are tables with robotics and coding plaques or instruments by the entrance and hallways, cluttered & dusty. The 2 young gals there were very nice but just sitting at their desks looking at their computer monitors amidst the chaos. They didn't ask him how the trial class went. Didn't seem organized or clean. I had high hopes with all the 5 star reviews on yelp but was not impressed. It's in a narrow and long strip mall with different businesses: a dentist and 2 - 3 other tutoring type afterschool places. Looks like a lot of local kids hang out after school. My son has gone to a dozen or so lego, coding and robotics camps over the last 2 summers and he said he prefers those classes/camps.

Stemtree of Diamond Bar - kids taking Electric Engineering class in after school

Where do I start. Education is so important, but getting kids engaged and have fun while learning…read moreis even more important to me. Stemtree in Diamond Bar is so different and stands out by doing just that. My kids go to Stemtree afterschool and they do homework, enrichment such as math and English, then Stem hands on activities such as science, making light up lantern (physic), make crystals (chemistry), slime, 3d printing, build legos that move, code (robotics) and more. The stem portion is very structured and organized with different activities planned out each week. Kids will move between different modules. My kids don't particularly have strong interest in stem initially but I choose Stemtree for exposure to science and hands on activity to build creativity. Also they try to prepare kids for future and just started testing reading comprehension with Star test for their AR level monthly. My school does Star AR test quarterly, but it's nice to have it monthly here to see the progress, help them see results and also improve on test taking skills. During the last school holiday (no school) they have a Columbus theme day where kids builds boats and have a competition of see who's boat floats the best in water and kids got prizes. They also have many othe events.

Just when a child enters, they get occupied from the time they come in with activity after activity which is so engaging and interesting that the excitement keeps going on all day. The after-school program is really well-organized and balanced with learning and fun. The staff is very knowledgable and enthusiastic, which increases interest in kids beyond measure. My kid would come back home daily, having made new discoveries, always looking forward to the next day. The afterschool at Stemtree far exceeded our expectations and will be a really great way to spend the summer here. We would recommend them to all!

Code Ninja is much more flexible - you create the schedule - but I wasn't sure without a teacher, lesson, in a class setting whether he would make good use of his time. They do have senseis (like teachers/aids) who are there to help as needed but it's more fluid depending on what skill your kid is having trouble learning . I have not had much experience with the senseis, but my son tells me they do come around to help and when I pick him up, he is so eager to show me his work. Each week, you get a progress email with links to his completed projects/games - so far he has programmed cute avatars with talking bubbles and movements - and the email also says how close he is to go up in belt. I could not tell how he was doing or know what he made in his last studio as there were no progress report/measurement. The owner is very nice and accommodating of our schedule, and sincere in wanting to create a fun place of learning for kids, as he too has young kids.

They had a few bumps on the road when they first opened but they are open to recommendations and suggestions which is what I really appreciate. I think it says a lot when they can take suggestions and implement rather quickly. Also Miss Lizzy whom was at Little Seed is now here at KSA. She is really attentive and very thorough with school. If on a field trip-Miss Lizzy is active and always with the children watching their every step. If at school, Miss Lizzy is thorough with her teachings and makes sure you know the areas where a student might need additional help. She's really quite great at what she does. Other honorable mentions are Miss Angel and Mr Williams both great teachers. Miss Melody whom was helping for the summer has been Teddys teacher for over a year and she's a wonderful leader as well.

The school is incredibly well-organized, and every staff member is warm and welcoming. My daughter felt so loved and supported at Learning Tree. Two weeks ago, she took the English test for the Walnut Unified School District, and the teacher was surprised by how good her handwriting was. I know this is because of the dedication of the teachers who have helped her grow. I want to end my review by sharing a picture she drew in class. It's hanging on our fridge. The drawing shows her teacher smiling as my daughter raises her hand to answer a question. It says, "I love to learn." This picture touches my heart deeply. As an educator myself, nurturing a lifelong love of learning is something I've always hoped to instill in my child. We've already signed her up for the after-school program, and we can't wait to see even more growth at Learning Tree!
