Excited to eat here hoping it would be the same atmosphere and taste from 50 years ago. You seat yourself. We were fortunate to find a table that could accommodate all 5 of us. We ordered drinks and a large Dave's special. The drinks came right away, but the 1 pizza took over 40 minutes and not once did our server check on us. Not sure what took so long and never given an explanation. When the pizza arrived, it was hot. We really liked the sauce. The toppings were good but sparse. After we were finished, we then had to track our server down to get our bill. We will be back. read more

The pizza was pretty good, and my friend liked his calzone. It was nice they served some local brews. We got the vegetarian pizza, build your own pizza, and a mushroom calzone. We also got a couple local beers from Bemidji Brewing Company. The ambiance felt a little uncomfortable with bright lights and no music playing, so we tried to play the jukebox but first they had it muted so they tried turning it up mid song and it was still so quiet then it stopped playing anyway and it ate our money, and the staff just had no clue how to work it. I think it would help the ambiance to have SOME sort of music playing in the restaurant, because it sounds like the jukebox is just for show anyway. The servers were very friendly and attentive. This place has good reviews, so I decided to check it out. The only thing that went well was following the sign that said seat yourself. It was 10 minutes before anyone appeared, drop a menu and left. Ten more minutes before another waitress came and took my order. It took 30 more minutes to get my pizza. In between no one ever checked on me; I had to flag the waitress down to get a glass of water. The pizza was another disaster. You could barely cut through the rock hard crust, which was their traditional crust. I asked for the check, 5 minutes later. Went to pay and found that they charge an additional fee of 4% when using debit or credit. The kid was also rude. The only bright spot was meeting a couple in front of me. I have been coming to Dave's Pizza since 2005. Normally the service is very good. Tonight I waited for 20 minutes before my order was taken. That was only after I flagged down a waitress. She said she would let the waitress serving my area know. I then waited another 10 minutes. The place was half-full with customers. The pizza then arrived to my table 20 minutes later. I needed a refill of my Pepsi. I waited for my waitress for 10 minutes. I never seen her again. I then walked up to the counter and asked for a refill. The pizza was EXCELLENT, as usual. We got a large traditional crust which was a mix of deep dish and thin crust. No edge crust like a thin crust, and cut in squares. The bottom was crispy and awesome! The layer between the bottom and the sauce and ABUNDANT toppings was fluffy and oh so perfect! Pepperoni was spicy and heavenly. Italian sausage, perfect! There was just enough sauce. So if you like a heavily sauced pizza, ask for extra sauce. Because it's delish! We also ordered the breadsticks. Those were boring and we were not a fan. The pizza was just ok but the service was inexcusably poor. Eating in the restaurant, it took over TWO HOURS to get two small thin crust pizzas. Even worse, there was no communication about what was happening. Each table seemed to have its own server, and ours disappeared for 45+ minutes at a time. Other tables had the same issues, as we all openly wondered if the servers had gone home. When ours finally delivered the food she angrily said, "you have to understand that we're really busy". No, I think "Dave" needs to understand how to properly train the staff. Don't get mad at your customers because they came in. And if you're overwhelmed, let them know. Don't run away and hide, leaving your tables to fend for themselves. Overall, an exceedingly disappointing experience. It's truly a shame that these employees feel like they're providing customer service when they're actually doing the opposite. But, if people keep going there anyway, "Dave" has no incentive to teach the employees how to treat customers with respect or courtesy. What a shame. Bemidji deserves better. read more

This is the best pizza in town. The wood brick oven really make the crust toasty yet soft. Toppings galore and the regular has plenty of cheese. The interior does have some new remodeling ...new carpet and kitchen etc. very well managed place where the owner hangs onto staff and the managers. Decided at the last minute to go out for pizza while camping with my 6 year old son. Picked this place for the high reviews and it did not disappoint. My son generally only eats maybe one piece of pizza, but he devoured many of the small pieces of pizza and declared it was one of the best pizzas he ever had. I agree, it was delicious. This pizza was delicious!! Best pizza I've had in a long time. Would definitely go there again, even if it meant going out of my way. The cheese was the biggest plus. It was amazing. Great toppings and the crispy edges on the pizza were so good. I wouldn't recommend the bbq chicken pizza, it had olives and fresh tomatoes on it, which I wasn't expecting, but everything else was so good. Server was great. Food didn't take too long. Everyone else got some good looking breadsticks, that we didn't try, but I would next time. We also had root beer floats for dessert, which the kids loved. This is a tiny Italian pizzeria that my wife and i like to go to on dates. The pizza is delicious with the crust just a tad crunchy and many unique kinds to choose from. We also ordered some fettuccine alfredo and the noodles were cooked to al dente perfection! What also impresses me is that the owner (Pete) wears an apron and works right alongside the staff, bussing tables, or bringing out food. He enjoys being there to work, and it shows. read more

The place is awesome! Old style pizza place with a small town feel, did not catch the waitresses name but she was awesome full of energy and made me even more excited for the food! My husband, grandson, and I are trying to decide how to rate Dave's. I guess I won. We sat outside because frankly it was too cold inside. We waited for 15 minutes before anyone came out to see us (my husband went in to ask them to come out). We had meatball appetizer (not bad), spaghetti marinara (paste with oregano), and the veggies pizza with pepperoni (who put green olives on a pizza (Minnesotans). Food was okay. I don't think they ever been to New York so don't order New Yorkers style. The sad part came with the bill. If I paid the way it was totaled it would have been great.
