Came to this town for the state park nearby, and looked for a casual lunch before coming back home to MD. We got there last minute for the 12-4pm lunch deal and they still allowed us to order at 3:59pm, which is very kind and honestly it wasn't a problem if they don't let us, but it's to show they do care for their customers and not that strict with rules. To me, it's an extra points as a restaurant! Food was decent. I can't say it's the best but it's a great menu design with thoughtful tasting planning. Even if the chicken was dry, the flavors and sauce matching makes it work and still tastes good. Overall we will surely come back for lunches or even dinners. Thanks again waitresses! (Pre COVID review) This restaurant could be a five star with small changes that would make a huge difference. For example the crispy soup noodles and egg rolls appear and taste baked rather than fried. Not good. Wonton soup - the best wontons in the area. They are made with the thick skins and a delightful filling. The soup broth is somewhat boring. This soup would be greatly improved by adding bok choy as I did (see picture). Many dishes are missing and they need water chestnuts. Mushrooms- are awful. I think they are reconstituted and dishes would be much better with canned mushrooms. House crispy soup noodles and egg rolls appear and taste baked. Both should be fried. House duck sauce- tastes like they opened packages into a bowl. They need to get the dark duck sauce found in all decent NY Chinese restaurants. These little changes could take this restaurant over the top. Sesame Oil- I don't think they use it and this could be a reason many of the dishes fall flat. This should be a staple in any Chinese restaurant. Chow fun/Ho Fun and Mei Fun suffer here from lack of sesame oil. Queens rice noodles stick together and this is easily solved by drizzling sesame oil over the dish once cooked. Their noodles are overcooked making the dish mushy. You can pick up the entire serving on one fork. Try to make this at home. It's easy and delicious! 12 oz. fresh wide rice noodles 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 4 scallions (split in half vertically and cut into 3-inch pieces) 3 thin slices ginger 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil 2 teaspoons dark soy sauce 2 tablespoons regular soy sauce 1/8 teaspoon sugar salt and white pepper (to taste) 4 to 6 ounces fresh mung bean sprouts Drizzle with sesame oil once cooked.

My 4 stars are all for the food, and all things considered, that's pretty generous but also tells you how good the food actually was.

We were originally supposed to be seated outside, but when we arrived, the hostess suggested we eat inside since rain was in the forecast. We were seated upstairs, which turned out to be very nice we actually had the entire room to ourselves. If you order the Beef Wellington, I have one recommendation: ask them NOT to cut it in half before serving it. They cut mine open, and as you can see in the picture, it looked absolutely amazing and juicy. Unfortunately, once it was cut, the juices ran out of the beef after a few bites, and the meat started getting a little dry. I think it would be much better to receive the Wellington whole and cut into it yourself, starting at the end so you keep those juices inside the meat. Our server was very nice and greeted us shortly after we were seated. We ordered drinks and an egg roll appetizer that was one of the specials. The egg roll was very good, and the salads that came with our meals were also excellent. The dressing was especially good. For dinner, my wife ordered the chicken special, which was chicken served over mushroom rice with a very good sauce. She really enjoyed it. I ordered the Beef Wellington and when our meals arrived they both looked fantastic. My wife's chicken smelled wonderful, and my Wellington looked amazing. It was also much larger than I expected. The Beef Wellington was honestly one of the top five I've ever had. The pastry was cooked perfectly, and the beef was a beautiful medium rare and very tender. The potatoes were good as well. I wasn't as impressed with the green beans, but that was really the only part of the meal I didn't care for. I do think the Wellington could have been even better with a demi-glace or another good sauce on the plate. The beef itself was excellent, but a good sauce would have taken the dish over the top. Our server was very pleasant, but she wasn't as attentive as we would have liked. I'm not sure if that was because we were placed upstairs, but we could have used refills on drinks quite a bit earlier than we received them. Since we were the only people upstairs, we had to wait for her to come back up to check on us. Still, she was very nice, and I don't want that to take away from what was otherwise a very good experience. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner at Bistro 71. The food was very good, the upstairs dining area was comfortable and quiet, and the Beef Wellington was definitely the highlight for me. I'd order it again--just next time, I'm keeping that Wellington whole until I cut into it myself!

The wait staff was very attentive. Initially, we ordered an unsweetened iced tea and a Diet Coke, and one of their cactus blossom onion appetizers (which I had a free coupon for). The cactus blossom onion was similar to the blooming onion that is offered at Outback steakhouses but I think it was actually much better than the one at Outback. To say that it was absolutely delicious as an understatement. My wife ordered the 12 ounce prime rib medium rare and I ordered a 12 ounce ribeye medium rare with shrimp skewers combo. Both were cooked perfectly medium rare. A house salad, a Caesar salad, and steak fries are included with our orders. We can rate the house salad "five" and the Caesar salad "four" (it was not quite as flavorful as I'm used to. The steak fries were not "crusty"enough for me, but still were tasty. Also served with the meal were some extremely delicious warm rolls with sweetened whipped butter. Everything was served very promptly and the waiter checked with us many times. The weight staff also helped us with checkout which is done with a small computer screen payment kiosk on every table. The restrooms were clean and spacious. The bill for everything was a little over $70 but I had a coupon for a free appetizer and a $30 gift card so my final bill was only $49 including tip. Overall, it was an excellent dinner and we would dine here again in New York minute!

We noticed the nice Christmas decorations everywhere. Our server, Trent, was nice and got our food order correct, but it seemed he mixed our table number up with our neighbor's as our meals were brought to them first, taken back to the kitchen, then brought out to us after a kitchen staff came to ask what we had ordered. Then my husband's tea was brought to them and the same thing happened with that. When we got our check originally, it had the neighbor's $12 drink on it. Granted it was a busy night, but I shudder to think how many people were around our prepared food before it finally got to its correct destination. My 6oz sirloin was ordered medium, but it arrived medium well. But I accepted it as it didn't look too bad. It, in fact, was delicious- though a little tough on the edge. My sweet potato, grilled shrimp and green beans were yummy. My husband's double cheeseburger was humongous. No way someone can eat that regularly. He had ordered it cooked "no pink" but it arrived "burnt to a crisp". He mashed it up and mixed tons of ketchup in but could still only taste burnt meat. Way too overcooked. His broccoli was overcooked (mushy.) The complimentary rolls in the beginning of our visit were delicious. The music was on way too loud. We couldn't have a conversation without constantly saying "what?!" and having to repeat ourselves. We eventually just gave up and did stuff on our individual cellphones until our meals arrived. The bathrooms needed attending to (the women's smelled of cigarette smoke as well.) This was a disappointing trip. We're hoping if we come back (maybe not during the holidays) it will be better.
