Dave's is a pretty decent diner. I've been there a few times. What I've learned from my few visits is consistency. The food is decent. It's not fantastic but pretty good. Their corn beef hash is homemade which earns them major points in my book - however it is short of love. Salt would help, some general TLC would go a long way for a little flare. The most consistently upsetting point of Dave's is the service. The server with the blonde ponytail is consistently rude. Two of my visits required a trip to the counter to ask for some more coffee and hot sauce. The servers are overworked and always in the weeds regardless of how full the restaurant is. I would suggest you give it a try, it's not a horrible experience in the realm of dinner breakfasts but not a fantastic one either. Been here a few times. Every time I visit, I'm hopeful things will have changed. My most recent visit will likely be my last. Food is bland and atmosphere gives me anxiety. I always feel rushed and can never seem to enjoy my time spent dining. I've only ever encountered one polite waitress. The rest grumble and act annoyed if I don't recite my order fast enough. During my most recent visit, I watched and heard one of the kitchen staff members who works on the grill station berate one of the waitresses multiple times. The waitress was embarrassed; he then kept telling her to go away. She was waiting for her customers' food orders. This happened in front of customers and was awkward and pathetic. Only one waffle iron in the kitchen so food wait time is extremely long on a weekend morning if several people order waffles. That is silly. Waffle irons are inexpensive and I'd say the tool is a good investment for a diner? The place has potential, but after several years of bad experiences I'm pretty certain they're not interested in changing. After visiting the Stickley factory, we needed a lunch break before marathon furniture shopping and the museum. Dave's is unassuming from the outside; located in the parking lot of a supermarket/strip mall. But you're in for a treat inside if you're a fan of diner food. The service is friendly. The diner is clean (a rarity for this class of place). The food is fresh and portions are ample. arrived at 10:30 for breakfast. not many customers. had to wait 15 minutes for a table although there were several available .4 tables needed dishes removed and area cleaned. this was done after we were seated. wait staff very slow and not very friendly.,treated us like we were a big inconvenience and bordered on being rude. food was mediocre at best. how hard it is to make pancakes? the corn beef hash looked like canned dog food. sent it back and asked for hash browns. soggy and badly cooked. only good thing was the coffee. waitress said she'd bring us something else but at this point nothing could have saved this bad experience. asked for &paid our check , left no tip.should have seen the dirty look we got as we left . will not be returning to this " diner" anytime soon. I've lived in the area for many years and just visited this gem of a diner today. Arrived mid morning to a bustling crowd of diners, but the wait was minimal. I was ready for a good cup of coffee on a brisk fall morning and I was not disappointed. Everyone was very friendly and our server was outstanding. This place is by far the dirtiest diner I have ever been in. First, the sugar was stuck on the table from it not being cleaned. As I look up, the waitress picks up a towel she dropped on the floor, that she is wiping tables down with, and puts it back on the counter to continue to wipe tables. Then, she brings me an extra plate cleaning something off of it with her dirty finger, doesn't succeed with getting the dirt off, and still hands me the dirty plate. My pancakes were cooked in sausage and bacon grease, and there was something floating in my apple juice. I just moved to Manlius and will be definitely NEVER go here again! read more

This place has nothing going for it aside from location if you live in Manlius. We do, and EVERY time we've gone there, maybe five times, it's been either terrible or barely competent. It's not hard to cook decent breakfast food but they manage to get something wrong each time. Omelettes are blah. Pancakes chewy. Coffee watery. All of this would make it a 2 star or maybe 3 if it weren't for the rotten service. Scowls and bad attitudes all down the line. Plus it's on the small side and the small booths don't accommodate parties bigger than 4-5 very well. I think 5 times the charm for us and we won't be going back. Came in around 8:30 am. They had 4 "cooks" on the line. Ordered 4 eggs sunny side up and sausage links. 45 minutes later my 3 sunny side up and 1 scrambled arrived. 5 min later my ice cold sausage arrived. Waitress didn't even know I was there. Save yourself the trouble and go to TOPS, located right next door and just cook your breakfast at home. Piss poor service. read more

The waitress gave us a cup of coffee with lipstick on the cup knowing their was lipstick on it and did not say anything until we called her over and before telling or showing her the cup , she immediately said "oh is their lipstick on it? Standard diner fare. Stopped in for Saturday breakfast and waited about 5 minutes to be seated even though there were 2 or 3 empty tables. I had visited the cazenovia location and was very impressed with the food and service so I gave the manlius location a try. Nowhere near as friendly. I had 2 children with me and we sat at the counter because they thought it would be fun. It wasn't. The wait staff was less than inviting. We had to witness them bickering with each other, arguing with kitchen cooks and being just plain grumpy. At one point a waitress was emptying her pockets right next to me at the counter, trying to make change for another table! We stopped here on Monday, Columbus day. we were a big group about 20. I had never been there before. and my family and I had just come from my Aunts Funeral. we were hoping to have some good laughs together while we enjoyed some breakfast. When we walked in, the waitress was immediately annoyed there were so many of us. Instead of saying it would be a bit if we wanted to sit together, she immediately started in with well we cant sit all of you together. No kidding. she did manage to sit most of us together. however my group was all the way across the restaurant and was the first seated we were almost the last served. and our food was cold. we watched the table behind us who were 4 and we were only 6. have their orders taken after ours. but their food had come out first, they ate and paid about 20 minutes before out food came out, cold. The waitstaff was miserable. the food was horrible. I will never go again. I watched as the waitress yelled at a group of looked like high school girls. because they decided to sit when they were ignored when entering the restaurant. they stood around for about 5-10 minutes. before they sat at an empty booth. the waitress came over to their table and yelled at them, Who told you to sit there!. read more

Never open past 3 PM - making it largely useless. Too many restaurants like this - only serving breakfast and lunch. It's appropriate in downtown Syracuse - but not elsewhere. Regardless of what they 'think' - people do eat meals after 3 PM - strange as that may seem. It's called "dinner" and everyone I know still eats dinner. And often we want to eat dinner OUT because we worked all day and don't feel like getting into the labor-intensive exercise of preparing a meal and cleaning-up after. I don't know how this place stays in business. I have lived in this area for 33 years and because it is convenient have stopped in Dave's, usually for breakfast. Several times there were problems with service, and the wait staff could care less. After this morning I will not set foot in the place again. I went in about 10am and sat at the counter. I was the only one at the counter, but two waitresses, just 5 feet away, were jabbing away and never glanced over. I waited and waited, and then one of them was on her cell phone and began reading what was on it to the other waitress.
