Me and my poor 2001 Subaru Outback limped into Dave's on a Saturday at 1:45, right before closing. I was driving from Pittsburgh to DC and after getting gas, the car refused to start. The mechanic sorted out my problem quickly and took the time to educate me on what happened, then checked with me on what he wanted to do and what it would cost. At that point I would have paid $$$ to not be stuck in Hagerstown for the weekend (sorry Hagerstown), but he in no way took advantage of my stuck situation. He got the orders in for all the parts right before the shops closed and the receptionist even went out and picked up the parts from the stores where the delivery people had already left for the day. I was back on the road in under and hour and my car is running great. This business is family owned and they really do treat you like family. I went here for a state inspection which was $80. They're friendly and very fast, they took me without an appointment which was awesome since I didn't plan ahead and i needed it that day. They found an exhaust leak at the flex and told me they would fix it for $700 since it needed a whole new part and everything. I was ready to pay this guy a weeks worth of pay. A friend of mine happened to overhear me talking about it later and when I asked him what he was laughing about he said don't go back to that shop. My friend fixed my car for $100. The part cost $75 and it took him an hour. The car passed a MD state inspection afterwards. How can you sleep at night while robbing people all day, every day? Firstly, I like these guys. I do not think they were trying to swindle me. I took my car in for power issues. They tested it and said it was the alternator and I needed a new one. I knew for a fact that it was not the alternator because I was charging the battery with it. I wasted 50$ on this test. I changed the battery myself and everything is fine months later. I have been told three times, for all of my past three cars, that a new alternator was needed. Twice, including this time, I needed a new battery, once I needed new spark plugs. Not once did I ever need an expensive new alternator. The point- never ever trust a shop, even a trustworthy shop like Dave's, when they say you need a new alternator. read more

I called Dave because I was in a jam with an overheating truck on a trip north to Ohio. The nearby Ford dealer gave me a quote that was unreasonably high, so I bought the part myself and Dave was able to install it for me. Definitely 5 stars! We were moving an oversize load down 81 when our pilot car had a breakdown. This means that our business stops. We contacted Dave who got right on top of things -- diagnosing the problem, locating parts, and continuously consulting with us about availability and prices. I had to get my daughter from Pittsburgh because she had to be out of her room on that Wednesday. Around Annapolis, my brakes went out but I drove a 5 speed manual so I could gear down to slow down. A brake line had a hole in it. I was able to use the other brake reservoir to help in braking but I knew the city of Pittsburgh was going to be a problem. I was given directions in Hagerstown to Dave's. I had to get my daughter off campus by the end of the day and her room cleared out. I told Dave of my problem. One other shop had told me they couldn't do the job today. Dave put my truck on the lift and in less than 2 hours the problem was fixed. He charged a reasonable fee. Dave's Corner Auto Care was fantastic and a life saver. The workers there were friendly as well. Dave could have easily said they couldn't get to it but they took the job on. They truly follow their slogan, "AUTO REPAIR BY THE PEOPLE THAT CARE". If I lived in Hagerstown or near Hagerstown, Dave's Corner Auto Care would be my service station for all truck and care work. read more

I had an auto emergency while I happened to be in the area for a backpacking trip. We were tired, wet, dirty, and needed our car to get back home to D.C.! We dropped into Dave's and Dave's delightful son Devin assessed my car, ordered parts, and fixed my brakes within an hour and a half of our arrival, despite an obvious glut of vehicles waiting to be repaired in their lot. Honest people, great service. Driving alone with 3 kids, car started making a thumping noise -- 4+ hours from home, 8+ hours from our destination. They took care of the problem -- turned out to be just a hunk of road tar stuck to the tire -- with no charge. They saw us immediately too. Highly recommend them. read more

We took our van to Dave's in April. The part that was needed was replaced for another one costing $186.70 (part only). The van did not run any better. The gas leak was fixed. Both repairs brought the total bill to $702.12 which is mighty salty since the replacement did not make any difference. After putting out so much money we had to wait until recently to do something about the constant stalling. For $2 hundred and some odd dollars another mechanic fixed our problem. It appears that the part Dave's replaced was not new but possibly the one that was already on the van. No proof but it is suspicious that our van ran horribly when we left Dave's lot and ran well when we left the other mechanic's shop. I do believe we were cheated but there is no way to prove what took place. We can not recommend nor will we use Dave's corner again! read more

If you are thinking of spending one dollar here, please read this first. I've went here a few times in the past for oil changes because it was so close to home. After the second time I found an oily finger print in the ceiling of my vehicle I decided to go elsewhere.(I wrote the first one off as an accident of someone who just changed oil and jumped up into the big vehicle that I own.) Several months later I had an issue with my vehicle and upon deciding that the dealership would cost and arm and a leg I went to Dave's Corner Auto Care thinking it would be cheaper and that I could drop off my vehicle and walk home. The first call I received from Dave, the owner, I was told the job would cost "around $400-$500 dollars including the diagnosis already done." I asked if my issue might be under warranty because of some vehicle forums I read on-line with similar symptoms to what I was experiencing. Dave told me he would check with the manufacturer and let me know if it was under warranty. Two days later I received another call and was told it was out of warranty, and I am using exact quotes, "You are looking at $700 to $800 AND YOU WILL STILL PROBABLY HAVE ISSUES." So in my head I was thinking, almost $1000 and the mechanic is telling me it won't fix my problems- a $1000 band-aid? What business says that to a customer? I paid the $130 for the diagnosis and took my vehicle to the dealership that called me two hours later and said it wouldn't cost me a cent, because it was under warranty. I was shocked, and of course quite happy. Again, it cost me ZERO dollars, except for the money I wasted to take my vehicle to Dave's Corner Auto Care which was going to charge me almost a grand and still not fix the issue. I can't speak for everyone, but this is the experience that I have had. I guarantee anyone who goes in to get a simple oil change will have a paper printed out each time and they will try to add on all these odds and ends to bump the price up. I always overlooked that part in the past because they were so close and just said no thanks. I waited a few days after my experience to write the review in order to provide only facts and keep emotions out of it. Choose wisely on where you decide to spend your hard earned money. read more
