When a front brake estimate requires you to take out a second mortgage.
    Rob S.

I'll start this review with some good news. This Firestone location is always busy, so clearly it has its base of supporters and regular customers. It is also a decent place for a relatively conventional inexpensive oil change, thus the second star. While this location doesn't get credit for it, Firestone's website, app and email system - which sends you the quotes and follow-ups in real time along with actual photos of the part in question, is convenient and well done. Now, for the negative. This simply is NOT the place to take your car for anything other than an oil change. I typically don't do "chain" auto service centers and have another nearby mechanic but - given that he closes up shop early each day - I decided to entrust Firestone for a front brake job (along with an oil change), which is surveyed though their $9.99 "inspection" to surmise the issue. Now, imagine taking your car in for front brake pads - even with the knowledge that rotors may well be needed - and receiving a quote for an astounding $4,000 for a myriad of allegedly "required" repairs. It's an incredibly bad look, and it does little to separate Firestone from service departments at dealerships, which are notorious for inflated prices and exaggerated repair quotes. THIS is the reason consumers, especially in today's financial climate, avoid dealerships for service in the first place - to find a trusted, reasonably-priced mechanic that doesn't overload estimates or include a litany of other items in with a brake quote. While the majority of the $4K quote had little to do with the front brakes, they craftily intertwined "must do" items INTO the brake repair, like a $200 brake fluid flush along with a REAR brake job, complete with new rotors and shoes. It wasn't until I called to discuss the ridiculous quote that the service technician backpedaled on how dire the quote made the repairs sound. I was then told they could "work with me" on the price. What does that even mean? Services are services and prices are prices. Why is there even wiggle room to negotiate repair pricing? Because they quote stratospheric prices in the hopes you'll hand them a blank check and, if you balk, they then work backwards in price - that's why. After trying to remove services from the quote and have them repair the front brakes only, the total was still well over $700. That is simply an outrageous charge for front brakes on a 2020 Dodge Charger, and it comes with the nervousness of driving around wondering if I am neglecting issues with the vehicle, given the overblown original quote. So I passed on the work altogether and agreed to pay for the $9.99 inspection, asking them to pull my car down out of the bay ASAP so that I could make it to another local repair shop with sensible pricing. Not only did it take them an additional hour to pull the car out, but I was shocked when arriving to find that they performed the oil change, which I didn't authorize when explicitly telling them I wasn't getting the work done there. $73 later, I had my car back and three hours missing out of my life. Do yourself a favor and find one of the many, privately-owned shops around this area. There is a different level of integrity and honesty, and far less salesmanship, when the guy who owns a small shop is also the one doing the work.

I found store manager to be an unscrupulous liar. I remember this as a better run store. First I had to wait for an hour being Saturday and what not. Thereafter only to be told that tire was unfixable. He didn't even read that car had ~20K miles. I finally got it serviced quickly down the road for about 30 bucks. And here is the picture of the same tire.

Over tightened lug nuts can strip the threads, distort brake rotors, damage the wheel, and possibly shear off the lug stud.
    James J.

These guys don't use torque wrenches when they tighten lug nuts for the wheels. Excessively tightened lug nuts can strip the threads, distort brake rotors, damage the wheel, and possibly shear off the lug stud. I went to them about a month ago to get my tires (4) installed. I tried to take out one of the wheels because a nail was stuck and was leaking air. Firestone over-torqued so much that one of the tools that I used was destroyed while I was trying to take off the wheel. So I called them back to find out what they could do about it and the guy who answered the phone didn't seem to care much to help. He just told me that the manager wasn't there and that he can't do anything about it. My advice: Pay $20-50 extra somewhere else where you can see mechanics working on your car instead of dropping off your car here and end up in my situation

I had an appointment for an oil change and I'm still sitting here 3 hours later. I could've learned to do it myself and done it by now.

I saw some good reviews for this location, so I drove by on a Saturday right before they closed and chatted with the owner, Brian. He hopped in the car and drove 1 yard, immediately told me what he thought it was, and warned me to avoid driving the rest of the weekend as grinding the wheel in extreme heat was risky. He said to come back first thing Monday morning to get it lifted up and properly examined. Came back Monday and the team figured out I needed to replace the caliper and brakes. Price was fair and they said they could do it same day within 3 hours, so I let them work on it and had them do an oil change as well. I'm very grateful for Brian and his team, taking the time to explain what was actually needed and why, and not overselling me on additional services. I'm so glad I finally found a new trusted mechanic! Will definitely take my car to Brian and the team for all future maintenance services.

Brian estimated that he could have my car fixed within a few days. The whole job took one week because he found other significant damage in the interior of my car which I didn't know about. Overall he communicated well, asked if I wanted to fix everything and had such a positive attitude. Also they do excellent work for a reasonable price. I almost wanted to keep this gem to myself but the world (or Silver Spring) needs to know where to go for superior auto care whether mechanical or auto body. They also cleaned the interior of my car. I don't want to come back for anything other than oil changes but if I need a job done in the future, I know where to go. I think the pictures speak for themselves to demonstrate high quality service.

I would recommend paying cash or debit card to prevent Any additionally charges using a credit card. Otherwise, I'm very happy with their customer service, affordability and honesty. The last two times I brought my 2009 Honda CRV in I specifically asked, "Please do a total overall check and let me know what is needed so it well and safely." The last time it was in, just a month or so ago, I asked if all is well, it's good to go, etc. BUT this weekend we found one of the brake pads completely gone - having it towed to a different shop now. Per my ask, WFA should have seen the pad was low and let me know. That's what I asked for and, Juan, would ALWAYS tell me; "This needs to be done now or you've still got some time." The new owners just say you can't predict what's going to happen. Sure, but break pads?!?? That should be obvious. Will no longer be bringing any of our cars to WFA. A dynasty has been lost.
