I (unfortunately) have had 3 separate encounters with Dave's Carpets. When you order carpet through Costco in this area, you get Dave's Carpets.
My first experience wasn't that bad. I wasn't around to actually experience the installation as I met with Costco's designer, picked out the carpet, and Dave's came to install it before I moved in. We had two bedrooms carpeted at that time and the carpet went in just fine. The only negative was that their installers used blue painters tape to mark of the threshold for some reason, but then installed the carpet on top of it. This prevented us from ever removing all the blue tape and there was a small band of blue tape ever present at our threshold. Annoying, but not too bad.
The second encounter was when I called Dave's directly for an estimate for a runner for our hard wood stairs. Dave himself came over. He was not very nice (this was the first time I met him in person). He seemed disinterested in my potential business and didn't bring any carpet samples that I had requested. Also, he said his wife would be calling me to follow up and give me a quote. She never did. I never heard back from Dave's and ended up using Abbey Carpet instead in Menlo Park on El Camino for our stair runner (which went and looked great).
My third and final experience with Dave's is the primary reason why I have taken the time to write this review. Let me say that I will never order carpet from Costco again if they are going to send Dave's to do the work. The experience this third and final time was horrendous. Let me describe it to you: the Costco interior designer came over as before and we picked out the carpets we wanted. This time, we were carpeting a few rooms with wall to wall carpet and a few rooms with custom area rugs. The wall to wall installation went well, except that Dave's installers refused to wear shoe covers. We had just moved into a new place and every other service person that came over (electrician, plumber, home theater, etc.) all wore shoe covers at our request. Dave's people refused outright and did not apologize.
For the area rugs there was a lot of poor communication from Dave's regarding the scheduling for the delivery and installation. They said that they were going to come several times and no-showed. Frustrating when you actually cancel stuff to wait around. Then on a random day when nothing had been scheduled with use, two guys showed up and said they were supposed to drop off our area rugs, but not install them. (We had paid for installation).
They looked like they were on their way out with their families in the truck with them (I think it was a weekend day). I told them to leave the rugs in our garage, which they did, and then called Dave's to figure out what was going on. Dave's told us that they had to schedule another installation time for us (frustrating). The carpets were finally installed, but the overall experience was excessively long and the customer service at Dave's was poor. From my experience, they obviously do not care what their customers think or feel.
Maybe they think they can act this way because they get a steady stream of business from Costco. I hope that Costco stops using them for their carpet program because the Costco customers deserve better. read more
