The back story: We are DIYers that took on the tall of redoing the floors throughout our new house. Fast forward two years and one newborn later, we had most of the flooring done except for our kitchen, two bathrooms, and a few finishing pieces of tile elsewhere throughout our house. We first got an estimate from a local handyman who wanted to charge an outrageous amount to fix that and some other things around our house. Then we called Steve. Steve did an estimate the very next day after I called him and had competitive rates. He explained his strategy for taking some tougher sections of the tile work and started work the day after we agreed to sign him on for the work. As someone else said, he does the work himself, something I appreciated after my experience with the handyman that parsed out his work to other people. He works quickly and efficiently and is very thoughtful and conscientious about the space he's working in (also appreciated this given our newborn situation). Don't waste your valuable time. 8/21/19 - I reached out to Steve, owner of Davenport Tile. We spoke briefly on the phone I let him know my tile project was small but, was in real need of a professional tiler as I was putting my house up for sale in the next few weeks. He asked me to text a few project photos, which I did immediately. He offered to come by the house the next day 8/22 and give me a bid. He sounded very competent & I was thrilled he could come so quickly to look at job & quote me a price. 8/22/19 - Late morning he texted saying he wouldn't be able to stop by, as his child was ill & he needed to pick him up from school. I immediately returned his text saying "Yes of course, no problem. Would you have availability on Monday?" No reply came that day, nor ever. I certainly understand that my text would not/should not take precedence over his sick child. And no, I did not neccessarily expect a reply that day or even over the weekend. However, a responsible professional definitely would have sent a reply or phone call by Monday afternoon (5 days later)! 8/27/19 - I called his business cell & left a polite message, saying I hoped all waa well with his family, that I was still interested in him working on the project & asking him to please call or text me. Again ZERO response. All of us, myself included expeeience family emergencies minor & major but, to simply not respond to someone or at least have an assistant reply is just plain rude & completely unprofessional! At a bare minimum, if he didn't want to take on my project - please have the decency to be honest, respond in a timely fashion & offer a qualified recommendation. read more

He's is timely, meaning if he says he'll be there at 8am, he'll be there, dude is like clockwork. He friendly and knowledgable. I had a front room that originally had carpet and was severely damaged by dog urine. Steve took the time to come give me a quote the very next day after we originally spoke. Steve was professional and honest. I chose to do a wood grain tile look. Steve worked hard and completed the job within a few days. I went from completely hating the room in my house to loving it. I can't say how his work is done, but I can say the owner would not return phone calls. I must have called at least twenty or more times and left about half a dozen messages. The one time i did manage to have my call answered he said he would look at his schedule and get back to me. Unfortunately that never happened and voicemails failed to change that. I wish anyone who tries to use him better luck than I had. In my opinion this isn't the way to run a company. If he didn't wan't the job he could of just said he was all booked up. First off I would like to say thank you Steve. It is very nice to see someone so profeesional, prompt,and honest. I found Steve through a gig I posting on Craigslist where I was looking for a person to build a custom shower pan only. He responded quickly and professionally. We arrange a time for him to come over to give us an accurate quote. His estimate came in dead on with another contractor but far lower than 90% of the other quotes I received. I like his persona so much that I stopped looking for contractors/tile guys.He then asks me when I wanted to have it done. I said as soon as possible because I have already been off of work to long from a back injury and will be going back in a few days. He said no problem. We meet at Home Depot later that day to get the materal. He also took time to get other needed supplies. I was baffled. I finally found someone with my work ethics and customer service and those are high standard. So far everything is turning out great. Mr. Davenport is the best. He did some tile work a year ago in our brand new home and it looks fantastic. He was very kind and was very professional. You feel like he was your friend and he does only what you need and does not try to sell you stuff you don't need.
