I recommended Dave Morton for a long time and even referred friends after buying my Ford Focus there. I never write reviews, but this experience changed that. In the past year I purchased two Jeeps from them. Since then I have spent about $9,000 in repairs. Around $7k on a Cherokee and $2k on a Compass, and both vehicles still have serious issues. The Compass now has combustion gases in the coolant, and the Cherokee needs a U joint. Between repairs and downtime, one or both cars have been in the shop for roughly six months out of the year and a half I have owned them. I reached out to the dealership about these issues and did not receive any follow up or support. My advice is to inspect any vehicle very thoroughly, especially around the 100k mile range, and pay close attention to reviews before buying. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this dealership. read more

I've read many of the reviews for Dave Morton and see that many have had negative experiences. I can only speak for my own experience which was good. I am a very experienced car buyer so I do my homework, thoroughly look the vehicle over before and after a comprehensive test drive. My experience with Ethan was positive and I am pleased with the vehicle. I am not in a position to defend the dealership from some of the negative reviews as I was not there. That said, for any used vehicle purchase from a dealership the buyer needs to understand that they often turn these vehicles as quickly as possible. So, they don't have in-depth knowledge of the vehicle and cannot foresee an issue that may come up weeks, or months after purchase. Some of these complaints seem genuine and concerning, others seem to be based on an uninformed buyer who expects the dealership to stand behind a used car that the dealer may have done a cursory inspection and only driven it once or twice. Understand that there are two sides to this, do your homework, drive it with a critic's eye, and ask a lot of questions. That's my advice. read more

I have been searching for months and thought I had finally found the perfect truck at this dealership. I put down a deposit with the salesman who said they could hold it until the weekend. I live in Montana so I spent hundreds of dollars on last minute plane tickets after confirming multiple times that the truck was available and would be held for me until the weekend. The next day, after messaging the salesman to confirm payment details, I got a response saying that the truck had been sold out from under me. I called immediately and talked to the owner who offered to refund my deposit, but upon mentioning the plane tickets, said it's "not his fault and not his problem." He was extremely rude and condescending over the phone and completely unapologetic to the situation they put me in. He tried to make the claim that they "didn't know it was already sold when they sold it to me," however based on the timeline of this whole situation I can guarantee that's not what actually happened. I have worked in the automotive industry for years and can confidently say that NO reputable dealership would ever do something like this. The owner of this dealership has no integrity or respect for the customers. I'm sure this will get deleted which is fine since it's posting on every page and site available, but I will never return to Dave Morton again. I dealt with Michael, who made more than one remark about my appearance, was becoming visibly frustrated when we weren't interested in the cars we were being pushed on us. Not to mention every person working there fed us nothing but dirty looks and horrid customer service. I financed my first car there, and must have had the only decent salesman there who no longer seems to be. Also may I add I felt forced to disclose my personal finances as I was being belittled about "how I can't save any money." WORST PLACE TO GET A CAR EVER Absolutely terrible service, AND TERRIBLE VEHICLES. If i could give zero stars i would. We bought a Nissan Murano from here two years ago. The day after we got it the back of our front seats completely came off, we called and they said "Well sorry but you'll have to stitch them yourselves or take them somewhere to do it, it's not our problem." The car has had multiple problems since with the engine and so much more, to the point that everything under the hood is brand new and WE had to pay for it with no help for Dave Morton's. The car has been in the shop on and off since the day we bought it. We tried taking it to their mechanic and they always told us it's either "not their problem" even though it was and it was covered under the warranty, OR they "fixed it" but actually just made the problem 10x worse. My brother just bought a car from there a few months ago and the engine was TOAST after 5 days, he tried calling and talking to the dealership multiple times and they would always hang up on him once he told them what was happening. We bought an 06 F-150 back in November. Ran fine for a couple months... then the issues started... the transmission went out and we replaced that. Then 2 weeks later the throttle body needs replaced, the catalytic converters both went out and it needs a new transfer case. You know, at first we loved our experience here. But then, it just got worse. The sun roof was broken so they had it fixed, but then the mechanics completely destroyed our interior. They broke a light, they tore carpet, and they stained things. The dealership just had it re-detailed, but nothing else fixed. Then I was late getting my DEQ in so the owner (John) and I had a full conversation about me taking 6 weeks to get the DEQ done, he said he'd take care of us and we were good, life happens. Then 2 months later we call to see where it's at, they have no answers for us and tell us they'd get back to us, then a couple weeks pass so we start calling twice a week. By month 4 of them having our DEQ slip they decide they won't be doing our plates or tags and send us money to do it themselves. Our trip permit expires on Christmas, it's 2 days away from Thanksgiving. Definitely not something we expected to handle. John even tried to say this was all because I was late getting the DEQ in even though we had an in person AND over the phone conversation about this.... Horrible communication and awful customer service. We will never trust them again. Also, from June 14th-November 2nd the car ran great, but November 2nd we had to do a complete engine replacement. If I was able to give less than a One star I would. This dealership likes to sell lemons to people and when you go in to get things straightened out they put ALL of the blame on to the consumer. Was told that I was an "adult" and need to learn to read everything before I sign it. I DID READ EVERYTHING! THEY DID NOT DISCLOSE THAT THIS CAR HAD BEEN IN A SUBSTANTIAL ACCIDENT WHERE LITERALLY HALF OF THE CAR WAS DAMAGED!!! The accident was reported 3 whole years before they even sold me the car, so there is no way they didn't know about it. Less than 300 miles put on to the car and about a month of owning it and the engine blew. I had to dump almost 7 thousand dollars into fixing this car and they don't give a single damn. They claim to want to be there for the customer, but when we really need the help, the best they can do is offer a good deal on another car. Was told the car would last me a long time that there mechanic had just inspected it. During buying process was told by Daniel i could not leave the lot or deal was off. They lied about a fuse ended up being water damage. Cars in a shop now only owned little over a month. Engine blew with less then 300 miles put on it. They will do nothing to help me. Mechanic said dealship should have inspected as they are alot more issues then just the engine. It was a safety issue.Thank god i saved all my text from salesman saying they would repair No response until my 14 day grace was up. Now i have a courtcase. Multiple phone calls no help whatsoever. i was looking forward to be financing my first car and went with my dad to come and help. right off the bat i didn't get an amazing vibe from the one seller name julio. very rude and didn't try and work with us at all and made my dad feel like he was dumb for the questions he was asking. very unprofessional but i guess that's the service you get for little dealerships like this. i was looking at a toyota camry and there were chips and cracks and ac wasn't working. he told my dad it hasn't been in a crash but there were signs that it was but he kept telling us it wasn't. seemed like he had an answer for everything and he had worked everywhere it seemed liked so he knew it all.. do not recommend at all. read more

We bought a car from here last month. Let me save you the hassle and the thousands over asking price you would pay in repairs- don't do it! First, we went to go look at the car we wanted. It barely started when we took it for a test drive. Said it had just been sitting too long. We asked point blank what was wrong with it, what repairs had been done, etc. They told us it had been "tuned up" , oil change, new windshield, etc. Nothing else on record being wrong. Well long story short, we've had to replace the starter, the a/c unit, a part on the radiator, and a whole lot more. I expect MAYBE one thing to go wrong after driving off a used car lot, but not a whole laundry list. These things are basic and were not taken care of - any reputable dealer will give their merchandise a full look before selling, or at least disclose what needs work and price accordingly. They were also asking way over Kelly blue book. We were able to finally (after hours negotiating) get a fair KBB price. The only saving grace in all this is that we purchased a reputable make and model that is known for its reliability- once all these things are fixed, I hope it will serve us well. My advice-Spend a little more money at a more reputable company who will give you a full, HONEST report on your car, and listen to my story and the many other one star experiences on this page- avoid this place at all costs. read more

Dave Morton Auto is a crooked company. They lie, cheat, and take advantage of their customers. I bought a Jeep from them. The day I test drove it I noticed the heater wasn't working properly. This can be nothing or it can be major. I brought it up to them and they took the jeep to their mechanic. Said the issue was minor and was resolved. Lies. They also told me the car had a full tune up, oil change and was inspected to make sure it was a sound vehicle, also lies. With in days of purchasing the jeep the check engine light was on and the car was running rough and the heater was still not working properly. I called Dave Morton. They said to bring it in. By now It's have problems starting. It's running hot and not holding water at all. They tell me I need a new radiator. And that their charging me for it. The problem with this is I purchased the extended warranty and the radiator is on the list of things covered but they basically said I need to have my check book to come get my car. I paid and picked it up now I'm starting to doubt them in their honesty. Within hours of picking up the car the check engine light is back on. Car no better and I'm out money even though I protected myself as a consumer. I call them back and they basically tell me oh well here is a mechanic who takes my warranty. Victory automotive. I take my car to auto zone for diagnostics to see what the errors are that may be causing my check engine light. It said cylinder 1 is misfiring so I call victory. they schedule for me to bring my car in. Car idling rough. Running hot. Water low still even though I supposedly have a new radiator. Victory starts to try and figure out what's going on. The list of things wrong with this car just keeps growing. Misfire cylinder 1 and 3 . water issues. Heating issues. It's just a mess. Come to find out They replaced my radiator with one to small and didn't even mount it. They sold me a car with cracked heads to begin with no oil change. No tune up. Everything they said was lies and deceit. The warranty company refuses to replace heads. So I'm months into a broken car trying to come up with thousands to fix a car I literally just purchased. I'm making payments on a car that sits in my driveway. And until I have the money to start tearing my motor apart w don't even know the extent of problems. Cracked heads, blown gaskets, faulty spark plugs, faulty coils, the wrong radiator in my Car not mounted in. None of which are New problems. The erosion and rust on my heads told the true story of the Lies and deceit Dave Morton Auto committed to make money rather then giving a good honest product to their hard working customers. This Car lot is a joke. So many people get taken by them. Since trying to navigate warranty Companies, different mechanics, lawyers, and people in the Car industry ive learned that Dave Morton auto has a long standing history of screwing customers. DO NOT BUY any vehicles from Dave Morton Auto Sales in Salem. My daughter and her father bought a Dodge Durango from them in December and last week the engine blew. it LASTED A WHOLE 6 MONTHS! When they bought it there wasn't even a back windshield wiper on the back window. Come on how cheap is that! The vehicle was always overheating and the air conditioner wouldn't work so they took it back several times. Supposedly, they fixed it for her but the mechanic told them today there wasn't even an air compressor in the vehicle! Unfortunately they bought it as is for $3,000 so there isn't anything that can be done. They were ripped off! It is a sad world when a car dealership takes advantage of a young girl and her father and then outright lies to them that they have fixed the problem. I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Purchased a truck that was supposedly owned by a manufacturer technician and meticulously maintained. Took it in to rotate tires and was told entire front end ( ball joints tie rods pitman arm control arms) needed replaced. Took it to another shop for a second opinion and they came back with the exact diagnosis. Did a tune up and found spark plugs were just about completely worn and the air filter was full of crap. So either this was the worst technician or daves is willing to lie to make a sale. read more

Save yourself time and money, go somewhere else. My mother bought a car there and within one month her transmission needed to be replaced, among various other major expenses. She bought insurance there and she was told would cover major repairs, well only part of the transmission was covered, she had to pay the rest and also had to pay all the other major repairs out of her own pocket, only one month after buying the car and she had only put a few miles on it. If you buy there, ask a lot of questions and get everything in writing and that may not even be enough documentation with dealing with the company. I suggest having a mechanic check the vehicle before purchasing, if you choose to buy from this business. I recommend going somewhere else entirely. Sadly, my mom lost a lot of money from buying a car there, the transmission had to be replaced, tires, brakes, fuel pump, and more all within a month of purchasing the vehicle. Went in told the gentleman that I was a mom and had a baby on the way and I needed a reliable car..so he puts me in one and to be fair I rushed and I shouldn't have but I took the car only to have it a couple hours later die at a light on me...I also found out I couldn't get in my car with my key but on one side (the passenger) and that too is falling out and won't last long...I go in that day not a couple hours later and say I want my money back...no such luck got told I had to wait the weekend because the boss wasn't there..so i waited...they keep telling me the car has been looked over by a mechanic my ass... when I ask if there's anything wrong with it he should have told me and he didn't..I brought the car back first thing Monday morning and said I'd keep the car if they would at least fix the key as I need to be able to lock my car and then get in mycar.. I was told that they would fix it...and to call back at 12 and so I did..got told the guy would call me back never did...so I called today and just got told that they could fix it but they arnt..going to.... the sales guy knew this car had issues and yet he felt ok enough to sell to a pregnant mom who didn't know any better...I'm so sad and hurt that they have no heart and can't fix a mistake of thier own..I have never had issues with this place till now.. way to go guys hope you all sleep well knowing what you have done! This review could be said for any car sales lot/reps, and the bottom line is that the responsibility belongs entirely to the consumer, but this is the lot that we dealt with, and feel that the experience should be shared for the education of others who are purchasing a used car. My very first recommendation is that you go to Washington or California to buy a used car. There is no consumer protection in Oregon for used cars. Car dealerships are not even required to look under the hood of a car, and certainly do not have your best interest in mind when selling you a vehicle. This dealership certainly did not for us. When we purchased our car, I noticed a few things that were missing or broken that the sales reps said they hadn't noticed (dome light console broken and lumbar support knob completely missing). I wondered to myself how this could even be. Well, straight from the Attorney General's office, it's because they aren't required to notice. A used car doesn't even have to pass a general inspection in Oregon to ensure basic components are present-- like headlights. Our headlights did not work, which due to our own ignorance and lack of due diligence, did not notice until we got home. We called the dealership the next day, and they were willing to have the car checked out by their mechanic. We were preparing to move out of state in about another week and lived about 45 mins from the dealership, so we just took it to the Chevy dealer as we already had an appt established to have a key fob programmed, as the car did not already have one (of course this wasn't factored into the price of the car). To replace the dome light, lumbar support knob, get a fob, and have the headlight (as well as the windshield wipers, as we found to be another problem) issue diagnosed and fixed, we spent a thousand dollars less than one week after purchasing the car!!! On top of the already outrageous price we paid for it!! Which brings me to the next lesson learned and piece of advice. Do your homework. Call around to other lots. And if you feel that a car is overpriced, don't be in such a rush that after they decline what you feel is a fair offer, you just accept it. WALK AWAY. I called this lot about a specific car and was told not to be deterred by the price listed on the site, it's not concrete and could be negotiated. This was not true. Saturn Vue 2008, Kelly Blue Booked in the present condition at 6,995 retail, 6k fair market value. Other lots in a 150 mi radius were selling this very car for 6-6,500. They were asking 7,995. I offered 6,995. They declined but did offer 300 more toward cash value on the car I was trading in, totaling 800. When I mentioned this information, I was told that the other lots had the luxury of doing so as they are larger and buy at auctions. I was also told "yea well, if you want a used car in good condition, it's just the price that you pay." Well, it's not, and that's why fair market value and Blue Book standards exist. But that is my fault. Also, it wasn't until after I purchased the car, but did call these other lots, and the above actually wasn't true of any of them. They were just as small. I should have walked away. I accepted, and it cost us dearly. Regarding the headlights I did speak to the salesman that sold us the car about the issue and asked if we could trade it for a car with functioning basics. He was reluctant, but did say it was possible, that he'd speak to his colleague and call me back that day. He never did. We went to the lot three days later to pick up our plates (which he said he would mail to us in AK, but apparently forgot), and not a single one of them even acknowledged us. The customer service while we were there was pretty decent , but customer service should apply beyond the point of purchase, so for this reason they earned 2 stars. As I drive this car I can't help but wonder what else is wrong with it that wasn't disclosed, and worry about the safety of my family. read more

My fiance and I bought a 2003 Mazda protoge hatchback from them after reading great reviews on another website about how they had fixed things and been a great helped. Well, my fiance test drove the car and noticed some things wrong, mentioned them. And supposedly Daves had them fixed. We proceeded to buy the car. Once we got the car, we noticed several things: the first was that a mirror was starting to fall off. So we took it back and they fixed that. Then we noticed that none of the radio stations came in clear... because we had NO antenna on the car!!!!!! So we ended up having to buy one. We went to put a cd in our cd player in the meantime... the cd player didn't work!!!!! Our salesman tried to make us a deal with the car cd shop down the street! So basically, we'd have to spend more money.... then, we noticed anytime wed get above 50moh. The car would shake... turns out we had a bent wheel... Oh we made sure they replaced that!!! The next thing we noticed was anytime wed start the car, was that it would send up a GIANT cloud of black smoke!!!!!!!! So after taking it into a shop they work with, the owner of the shop told us the head would have to be replaced.... well, we asked Daves for a loaner car while ours was in the freaking shop, nearly a month and a half after buying it from a head having to be replaced!! And Daves refused... so finally the shop owner gave us a loaner, and we put the car in the shop. Once putting it in the shop, the owner took a closer look and actually realized the WHOLE engine has to be replaced!!!!! Daves sold me a car that had to have the engine replaced!!!! And today I get a call from the shop owner saying the timing belt also has to be replaced, but that the timing belt is NOT covered under my warranty. So I have to shell out 280$ of my own money to put a new timing belt in a car we've had barely a few months, and that has been in the shop for the past 3 weeks.... I wish we had NEVER gone to Daves.
